Abstract

The issue of euthanasia has become one of the most controversial topics in modern bioethics because it concerns a person’s right to life and death. In the context of the Christian faith, this issue becomes even more complex as it touches upon theological aspects related to the sanctity of life and God’s sovereignty over human existence. Euthanasia is generally understood as an intentional medical act to end a person’s life, either at the patient’s own request (voluntary euthanasia) or without explicit consent (non-voluntary euthanasia), with the aim of relieving what is considered unbearable suffering. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using theological literature review and applied Christian ethics methods. Data were collected from academic sources such as theological journals, bioethics publications, and accredited scientific articles. The analysis examines biblical perspectives, Christian moral principles, and social and legal practices related to euthanasia in various countries, including Indonesia. The findings indicate that Christian applied ethics rejects active euthanasia, as such an act contradicts the principle of the sanctity of life that originates from God. However, passive euthanasia—the withdrawal of medical treatment that no longer provides benefit—may be considered ethically acceptable when carried out with a motivation of love rather than despair, and grounded in faith that entrusts life fully to God. Thus, human suffering is not to be erased through death, but rather understood through the cross of Christ as part of the journey of faith toward eternal hope. The implications of this study highlight the importance of Christian religious education in guiding believers to understand Christian moral values amid the challenges of contemporary medical ethics. The Church is called to uphold the sanctity of life, provide pastoral care for terminal patients, and affirm that every life, even in suffering, remains precious in the sight of God.

Abstract

This study aims to develop History Quest, a history learning media based on Google Lens, to enhance the learning outcomes of Grade X students at SMA. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, consisting of Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The media was designed as an interactive card game integrating QR codes linked to historical video content accessed via Google Lens, combined with a Guided Inquiry Learning approach to foster active and collaborative learning. The product was validated by material and media experts and tested in classroom implementation. The results indicate an improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with the average score increasing from 87 on pretest to 89.71 on posttest, accompanied by a decrease in standard deviation, showing a more consistent distribution of scores. N-gain analysis revealed that most students achieved medium to high improvement, especially those with lower initial pretest scores. Furthermore, the Effectiveness Index highlighted that several students experienced significant learning progress, demonstrating that History Quest effectively supports learners with diverse initial abilities. The novelty of this research lies in integrating visual search technology with Guided Inquiry Learning to create an engaging, interactive, and technology-based history learning experience.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the praxis of simplicity among Minahasan affiliates of the Christian Evangelical Church in Minahasa (GMIM) as a spirituality that opposes consumeristic religion. A qualitative case study design was employed to gather data in the form of in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of documents using purposely chosen congregants who always engage in simple living in family, ministry, and everyday life. Data were interpreted using thematic analysis, which was informed by the theological-hermeneutical framework. The results indicate that simplicity is not considered an absence but a planned, religious lifestyle of sufficiency, gratitude, humility, and reliance on God’s providence. In practical terms, the concept of simplicity is reflected in judicious handling of finances, low-profile consumption, non-competitive involvement in worship, and judicious use of social media. Congregants define this way of life as a protest against consumerist ideas such as extravagance, flaunting, and spiritual arrogance, which are becoming more pronounced in church activities and general society. This opposition is anchored in the merging of Minahasan cultural norms, particularly mapalus (mutual help) and the GMIM ethos of love, service, and modesty. This study concludes that the praxis of simplicity among GMIM congregants is a situational spirituality of resistance that protects and revitalizes the church’s theological identity. It provides pastoral implications for faith formation, leadership, and ecclesial practices that are useful in enabling congregants to resist religious consumerism while being involved in modern social life in the plural context of Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions, attitudes, and responses of the congregation of GMIM Golgota Bukit Ranomuut Permai toward mental health issues, as well as to identify the theological, social, and cultural factors shaping those responses. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling techniques, the research involved 26 participants drawn from church ministers (Pelsus), youths, and general congregants, selected through an open online questionnaire. The data were analyzed thematically and validated through source triangulation. The findings indicate that 96.2% of respondents had previously heard about mental health issues, reflecting a high level of awareness. However, 65.4% reported having experienced stress, anxiety, or depression in recent months, even though access to professional services remains hindered by limited knowledge (12 mentions) and fear of social stigma (8 mentions). Although 65.4% of respondents were aware of the existence of mental health services, one-third still lacked understanding of how to access them. Suggested interventions from the congregation include routine educational programs in the church, the provision of free consultations, the establishment of support groups, the cultivation of a listening culture, and structured spiritual accompaniment. The study reveals a gap between awareness and action, influenced by religious stigma and limited information. It recommends integrating mental health literacy into pastoral ministry, establishing a pastoral referral system, and fostering collaboration between the church and professional practitioners. The church is positioned as an agent of social transformation capable of providing a safe space for holistic healing—physical, psychological, and spiritual—within the framework of a theology of shalom. This research offers practical contributions to the development of contextual pastoral care and enriches academic discourse on the intersection of religion, culture, and mental health in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper explores the meaning of the idea of a healthy family to members of GMIM Damai Belang Atep, as well as how that idea is played out in biblical view, and the things that promote or inhibit it in a Minahasan context. In response to the normative discourses of Christian families in Indonesian theology, this study follows an exploratory qualitative research design with a phenomenological orientation. Semi-structured interviews with a purposely chosen sample of families and special office-bearers were used to collect data, which were analyzed with the help of thematic analysis and contextual theological reflection. The results indicate that congregants identify proper families in terms of relationships and Christ-centered ways. Mutual love and respect, common spiritual disciplines, equal emphasis on spiritual, emotional, and practical needs, and the deliberate impartation of biblical values to children are all related to family health. These beliefs are reflected in everyday activities, family worship, shared prayer, eating together, helping others, and spiritually oriented ways of resolving conflicts, which emphasize calm speaking, controlling oneself, forgiving, and praying. Concurrently, families are experiencing problems such as financial strain, family time, screen addiction, and value system clashes in the external world. The cultural values of Minahasan, most notably mapalus, kinship, and solidarity, are revealed as social capital that can be used to support biblical ideals, although some of the characteristics should be discerned. This paper suggests a contextual model of a healthy family and the necessity of the church to supplement doctrinal teaching with pastoral accompaniment based on families.

Abstract

Architecture is an art and science that includes functional, aesthetic, cultural, social, and philosophical values. In the archipelago, architecture has long developed and reflects the influence of local culture, religion, and environment. The arrival of Westerners, especially the Dutch through the VOC, had a major impact on local architecture, creating acculturation between European styles and Nusantara traditions. Batavia Old Town, as the center of Dutch colonial administration, is a clear example of this acculturation. This research uses the architectural historiography method to analyze the history, structure, and influence of Batavia's colonial architecture on the development of the Nusantara's infrastructure. The results show that colonial architectural styles in Batavia, such as the use of local materials and adaptation to the tropical climate, resulted in a distinctive “Indies Vernacular” style. The structure of Batavia city, including its canals and spatial layout, reflects both colonial dominance and heritage that shaped Indonesian architectural identity. In addition, Batavia's Dutch canals have also been implicated in a record of functional failure due to incompatibility with local conditions. This research provides insights into the role of colonial architecture in shaping the infrastructure and urban development of the archipelago.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Google Slide learning media on the chronological thinking ability of Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 6 Kota Serang. The method used in this research is a quantitative quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The research was conducted on two clasess, namely XI-A3 with 44 students as the experimental class, and XI-A2 with 42 students as the control class. The results of the study are as follows: (1) there is an effect of using Google Slide learning media on the chronological thinking ability of Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 6 Kota Serang. The hypothesis testing using the two-tailed t-test with the polled variance formula using Ms. Excel obtained a t-count value of 0.45 ≥ t-table value of 1.66 with a significance level of 0.05, so H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. (2) The chronological thinking ability of students who use Google Slide learning media is higher than that of students who use Canva. The average post-test score of the experimental class is 76.93, and the control class is 70.05. This shows that the experimental class has a higher average than the control class. This is not separated from the advantages of Google Slides media which are interactive, easily accessible online, and support effective collaboration and visualization of learning materials. Google Slides also enable teachers to embed relevant images, videos, animations, and links, thereby increasing students' interest and understanding of lesson materials, especially in developing chronological thinking ability.

Abstract

Food security is a fundamental aspect in maintaining national stability, especially in Indonesia. The role of the Indonesian National Army (TNI), through regional command units such as Kodim, is crucial in supporting local government programs aimed at food security. This study aims to analyze the role of Kodim 0612/Tasikmalaya in assisting the Local Government (Pemda) of Tasikmalaya Regency in achieving food security. The study also evaluates Kodim's contributions, identifies the challenges faced, and formulates strategies for optimizing its role. The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytical techniques. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with Kodim 0612/Tasikmalaya personnel, Pemda officials, and food security experts, along with literature review and field observations. The results of the study show that Kodim 0612/Tasikmalaya plays an active role in providing technical assistance for agriculture, training farmers, and overseeing the distribution of production facilities to maintain food price stability. The main challenges faced include limited human resources, lack of coordination with Pemda, and geographical and infrastructure challenges. The optimization of Kodim's role can be achieved through improved coordination between Kodim and Pemda, strengthening personnel capacity through intensive training, and utilizing information technology for monitoring and distribution efficiency. This study recommends increasing personnel capacity and competence, as well as developing a technology-based monitoring system to effectively measure the success of food security programs.

Abstract

In the early 20th century, the emergence of the Bumiputera women’s press became a crucial medium for redefining the roles and identities of women within the colonial society of the Dutch East Indies. This article examines how the concept of motherhood was constructed, negotiated, and redefined through print media managed by and aimed at Bumiputera women. Employing a cultural historical approach combined with discourse analysis, this study explores the construction of motherhood within the contexts of colonialism, early nationalism, and modernity. It reveals that the figure of the "mother" in the press was represented not only as a household caretaker but also as a moral agent, educator of the next generation, and a symbol of women’s collective awakening. This redefinition was influenced by the values of the colonial Ethical Policy, discourses of emancipation, and the role of educated women in shaping a new, public, and national identity. Thus, the concept of motherhood in the early 20th-century Bumiputera women’s press was not static; rather, it served as a contested arena shaped by traditional norms, colonial structures, and the spirit of modernity.
