Abstract

Coronary heart disease (CHD), including coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, with a continuously increasing prevalence, including in Indonesia. This condition underscores the need for effective rehabilitation strategies to improve patients’ quality of life. Physical exercise is an essential component of CAD rehabilitation; however, patient adherence to exercise programs remains low and is strongly influenced by exercise beliefs, namely patients’ perceptions of their self-control and ability to perform physical activity. This study aims to analyze exercise beliefs among CAD patients at Welas Asih Regional Hospital using a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample was obtained through convinience sampling, and the instruments used were the Exercise Control Belief scales, which had undergone translation, content validity, construct validity, and reliability testing. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using frequency distribution and mean scores. The findings showed that most patients had moderate to high levels of exercise beliefs, with self-efficacy levels being more dominant than exercise control beliefs, while some patients remained uncertain about controlling exercise when experiencing physical symptoms. These results indicate the need for educational interventions and nursing support to strengthen patients’ confidence and motivation in performing physical exercise as part of cardiac rehabilitation.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a health problem that remains high in Indonesia and can negatively impact the health of both the mother and the fetus. One effort to prevent anemia is through health education. This study aims to determine the effect of booklets on anemia prevention on the knowledge of pregnant women in the Cigeureung Tasikmalaya Community Health Center area. The study used a quantitative method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The sample consisted of 32 pregnant women selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 20 questions about knowledge of anemia prevention. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before being given education, most respondents had poor knowledge (53.1%), while after education with booklets, the majority had good knowledge (93.8%). The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value = 0.000 (<0.05), which means there is a significant effect of using booklets on increasing pregnant women's knowledge about anemia prevention. Booklets have proven effective as an educational tool because they can be read repeatedly, are easy to understand, and are visually appealing. It is recommended that health workers utilize booklets as an alternative educational medium in an effort to increase knowledge and encourage anemia prevention behavior in pregnant women.

Abstract

Background, The community-based approach emphasises social empowerment in health interventions so that they are more accessible to older adults in their own environment. Purpose: To determine the effect of community-based anti-hypertension exercises on increasing older adults' awareness and participation in stroke prevention. Methods: Quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test design. The research sample consisted of 45 elderly respondents from Singgahan Hamlet. The independent variable was anti-hypertensive exercises, while the dependent variables were awareness and participation. The research instruments were observation sheets and questionnaires. Data were analysed using univariate analysis, data normality, and bivariate analysis. Results: The most common category for the awareness variable among the elderly before the intervention was moderate, at 48.9%, which then increased to high after the intervention, at 55.6%. The most common category in the elderly participation variable before the intervention was moderately active (48.9%), which then increased to active (60.0%) after the intervention. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed that community-based anti-hypertension exercises had an effect on increasing awareness (p=0.000) and participation of the elderly in stroke prevention (p=0.000). Discussion: This approach reduces the psychological and physical barriers for the elderly to participate in health activities. Social support from fellow elderly people and community facilitators strengthens motivation and a sense of belonging to the programme. Conclusions: Community-based anti-hypertension exercises have an effect on increasing awareness and participation among the elderly in stroke prevention.

Abstract

Kidney dysfunction has gained increasing clinical importance as a comorbidity in patients with malignant disease, especially those suffering from solid tumors like breast cancer. The present work was designed to assess renal and metabolic biomarker dysregulations among women patients diagnosed with breast cancer compared with healthy subjects of Karbala city/Iraq. A hospital-based case–control study was performed from December 2018 to March 2019 in the Oncology Center of the Maternity and Children’s Hospital, Karbala. Seventy breast cancer women diagnosed with proven histology and 30 normal age-and sex-matched controls were included. Standardized biochemical assays were used to estimate concentrations of urea, creatinine, uric acid, glucose and total cholesterol in the serum. Data were analyzed statistically using the suitable parametric tests and significance was assumed as p < 0.05. The serum levels of urea, glucose and total cholesterol in breast cancer patients were significantly higher than those in normal controls (p < 0.05). On the other hand, serum creatinine and uric acid levels were lower in patients (p < 0.05). 45–55 years were the most affected group, accounting for the largest number of diagnosed patients. Breast cancer is characterized by marked perturbations in renal and metabolic biomarkers indicating subclinical renal damage and systemic metabolic irregularities. Regular follow-up monitoring of the kidney function-related variables should become part of breast cancer management to minimize renal effects and enhance therapeutic benefits.

Abstract

Healthy behavior is a key foundation in achieving the Healthy Indonesia 2030 agenda and must be developed at both individual and collective levels. This effort is supported by the availability of health services across all levels to promote prevention, early detection, and disease management. This study explores health belief factors that shape healthy behavior among the Jatinangor community using George Herbert Mead’s Symbolic Interactionism Theory. This perspective emphasizes that the meaning of healthy behavior is formed through social interaction, interpretation of social expectations (the generalized other), and symbolic communication processes. A qualitative approach was applied using in-depth interviews, observations, and focus group discussions (FGDs). The findings reveal that most participants possessed strong health beliefs, indicated by a high perception of health risks and a strong belief in the benefits of preventive actions. In addition, supportive community environments, ongoing health promotion, and mutual respect among individuals were identified as important contributors to psychological well-being. These factors reflect the role of symbolic interaction in shaping individual and collective health behavior. In conclusion, health beliefs, motivation, self-regulation, social support, and mindset formed through continuous social interaction—play a crucial role in achieving physical and emotional well-being. Therefore, strengthening community participation and peer support networks is recommended to enhance sustainable healthy behavior in the Jatinangor District.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires good, consistent, and sustainable self-care practices. Good self-care practices can prevent disease complications and disability, improve quality of life, and reduce the burden on healthcare services. However, the ability and level of self-care practices vary between patients. The purpose of this study was to analyze how self-care is practiced in Type 2 DM patients and its implications for nursing practice. The research method was quantitative, with a descriptive analytical design. Purposive sampling was used to select 156 DM patients. The research instrument, The Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) , which has been validated and covers 5 aspects. Data were analyzed using a frequency distribution. The results showed that the overall level of self-care was more than half in the good category (67.95%). Medication adherence was the highest aspect (95.5%) in the good category, blood sugar monitoring was 78.2% in the good category, and foot care showed a good category (63.5%). Meanwhile, aspects of diet and physical activity (both 51.3%) were the lowest domains and required more attention. These findings indicate that self-care in diabetes patients is suboptimal in terms of lifestyle. The implication for nursing practice is the need for a structured, personalized, and community-based educational approach to increase patient motivation and independence in managing diet and physical activity to prevent long-term complications.

Abstract

Background: This study aimed to analysed the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in children under five years old. Methods: A case-control design involving 464 toddlers from areas with high stunting prevalence was employed. Results: Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting (p = 0.3), although descriptively, children who were not exclusively breastfed had a higher incidence of stunting. Additionally, factors such as child’s age, nutritional status based on weight and height, and weight gain showed a statistically significant relationship with stunting (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that stunting prevention requires a comprehensive approach involving not only exclusive breastfeeding but also continuous growth monitoring and attention to environmental and health factors.

Abstract

The number of post-cesarean section patients worldwide increased by around 21% from 2021 to 2025, representing almost a third of all deliveries. This increase is projected to continue until 2026 to 2030, exceeding the ideal standard of around 10-15%. Caesarean section surgery has unpleasant side effects such as pain, and current treatment still focuses on pharmacological therapy and is starting to vary to non-pharmacological guided imagery therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of guided imagery pain management on post-cesarean section patients in efforts to reduce pain levels in the Bandung City Hospital area. The research method used a quasi-experimental approach with a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest only design. The sample was 90 post-cesarean section patients. The research instrument used standard operating procedures for guided imagery therapy and a numeric rating scale. The analysis included univariate analysis with frequency distribution calculations and bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results of the study proved that there was an effect (p-value 0.000) of guided imagery pain management in post-cesarean section patients on efforts to reduce pain levels and the average respondent experienced a 100% reduction in pain in all post-cesarean section patients. It is recommended that guided imagery therapy as a non-pharmacological therapy can be used to reduce pain in post-cesarean section patients.
