Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and remains highly prevalent in Indonesia. Simple physical activity such as walking can help reduce blood pressure. This study aimed to determine the effect of walking 100 meters on systolic and diastolic blood pressure among middle-aged hypertensive patients in Plesungan, Karanganyar. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a pretest–posttest approach was used involving 39 respondents selected by total sampling. Blood pressure was measured before and after a 100-meter walking intervention and analyzed with a paired t-test. The mean systolic blood pressure decreased from 165.53 mmHg to 154.02 mmHg (−11.51 mmHg), while diastolic blood pressure decreased from 99.51 mmHg to 89.31 mmHg (−10.20 mmHg). The paired t-test showed p < 0.001 for both parameters. Walking 100 meters significantly lowers systolic and diastolic blood pressure and can be recommended as a simple, non-pharmacological intervention for hypertension management.

Abstract

Background: Nurse managers play a crucial role in shaping the quality of nursing care and organizational culture. However, their leadership characteristics often remain implicit and deeply embedded within personal experiences and professional narratives. Archetypal patterns provide a lens to uncover symbolic dimensions of leadership that influence managerial practices in clinical settings. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the leadership characteristics of nurse managers through archetypal patterns using a narrative inquiry approach in clinical practice. Methods: A qualitative narrative inquiry design was employed. Data were collected from [X] nurse managers working in [hospital/clinical setting] through in-depth interviews, reflective journals, and field observations. Narrative data were analyzed thematically, guided by archetypal frameworks (e.g., caregiver, ruler, warrior, sage), to identify underlying leadership patterns. Results: Findings revealed four dominant archetypal patterns shaping nurse managers’ leadership: the Caregiver (emphasizing compassion and protection), the Ruler (prioritizing structure, authority, and decision-making), the Warrior (focusing on resilience and advocacy), and the Sage (highlighting wisdom and reflective practice). These archetypes manifested differently depending on situational demands, organizational context, and personal values. Conclusion: Nurse managers’ leadership is characterized by dynamic interplay between multiple archetypal patterns. Recognizing these patterns provides new insights into leadership development, mentoring, and strengthening clinical governance. Future research should explore archetypal leadership across diverse healthcare contexts to support transformative nursing leadership.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible decline in renal function, often necessitating long-term hemodialysis. Anxiety is a prevalent psychological concern among CKD patients, potentially influenced by treatment duration and the level of family support. This study aimed to examine the correlation between hemodialysis duration, family support, and anxiety levels among patients with CKD at Dr. Kariadi General Hospital, Semarang, Indonesia. A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted involving 89 hemodialysis patients, selected through a non-probability sampling method from total of 165 CKD patients with hemodialysis. Data collection occurred between July 2023 and March 2024, utilizing three instruments: a demographic questionnaire, the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HRS-A), and the Family Support Scale (FSS). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate approaches, including Spearman’s rank correlation test. A significant negative correlation was found between the duration of hemodialysis and anxiety levels, indicating that patients undergoing hemodialysis for a longer period tended to experience lower anxiety. Similarly, higher levels of family support were significantly associated with lower anxiety scores (p<0.001). Both longer hemodialysis duration and stronger family support are associated with reduced anxiety in CKD patients. Enhancing family involvement and providing consistent education about hemodialysis care may contribute to better psychological well-being in this population.

Abstract

Students' GPA is frequently linked to a variety of internal and external factors, including sociodemographic characteristics such as gender and area of residence, as well as psychological variables such as happiness levels. However, the association between happiness and academic achievement has not been clearly established in prior study. The purpose of this study is to examine the association between gender, place of residence, and happiness levels in relation to students' Grade Point Average (GPA). The study followed a descriptive correlational strategy. Data was obtained from 62 students using a questionnaire that included factors like gender, place of residence, happiness level, GPA, and the Indonesian version of the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQI). The research was conducted using the Chi-Square test for categorical correlations, the independent t-test for comparing mean GPAs between groups, and one-way ANOVA to assess the impact of happiness level on GPA. The findings revealed no statistically significant associations were found between gender and happiness level (p=0.481), gender and GPA (p=0.111), place of residence and happiness level (p=0.537), place of residence and GPA (p=0.090), or happiness level and GPA (p=0.401). Nevertheless, students who live with their parents tend to have higher GPAs than students who reside in dorms. The results indicate that no statistically significant associations were observed between gender, place of residence, happiness level, and students’ GPA. Descriptively, students living with their parents tended to have higher GPAs than those residing in dormitories, although this difference was not statistically significant. These findings suggest that sociodemographic characteristics alone may not sufficiently explain variations in academic performance within this sample.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology is driving the government to improve healthcare services thru digitalization, including e-Puskesmas. The e-Puskesmas application is one of the web-based puskesmas management information systems used to manage patient data from registration, examination, to treatment. However, the problems that arise in the implementation of e-Puskesmas will impact the decline in the quality of services provided by health centers. This study aims to determine the relationship between the use of the Human Organization Technology Net Benefit (HOT Fit) model in e-Puskesmas with the reliability dimension at Cisitu Health Center, Sumedang Regency. The type of research used is quantitative with a descriptive analytic research method and a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The sample in this study consisted of 56 officers using e-Puskesmas. Data was collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed using a chi-square test. The research results show a relationship between human usage of e-Puskesmas with the reliability dimension (p-value 0.001) and no relationship between organizational usage of e-Puskesmas with the reliability dimension (p-value 0.696). It is hoped that the health center will improve its internet network and conduct regular evaluations to monitor the performance of e-Puskesmas at the Cisitu Health Center.

Abstract

Menstrual cycle disorders are among the most common reproductive health issues experienced by adolescent girls and may affect future fertility. One factor influencing menstrual cycle regularity is the consumption of unhealthy foods and beverages, including foods high in fat, sugar, and salt, and sugary, carbonated, and caffeinated drinks. These dietary habits can disrupt hormonal balance through metabolic and endocrine mechanisms. This study aimed to determine the relationship between unhealthy food and beverage consumption and the menstrual cycle among female adolescents at SMAN Tanjungsari. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of 272 respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Research instruments included a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and a menstrual cycle questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate techniques with the Spearman Rho test. The results showed significant relationship between unhealthy food consumption and the menstrual cycle (p < 0.001), with strong positive rho value of 0.715. In addition, significant relationship was found between unhealthy beverage consumption and the menstrual cycle (p < 0.001), with a moderate positive rho value of 0.612. Therefore, the higher the frequency of consuming unhealthy foods and beverages, the greater the likelihood adolescents will experience menstrual cycle disorders.
