Abstract

Background: East Nusa Tenggara is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has a higher stunting problem compared to other provinces. This value is a contribution to the prevalence of stunting in various districts in East Nusa Tenggara, one of which is Ende District. Currently, East Nusa Tenggara Province is promoting the use of moringa and sorghum plants for re-cultivation as substitutes for rice and corn.Purpose: To find out the effect of giving sorghum and moringa cookies on the growth and development of stunted children in Ende Regency.Method: This research uses a quasi-experimental type of research with a one group pretest-posttest design. Carried out in the work area of the Ende Regency, research was conducted from 2 August-3 September 2021, totaling 96 people sampling was carried out using non-probability sampling so that the total was 55 people. The independent variable in this study was consumption of cookies made from sorghum and moringa, while the dependent variables were height, body weight, and upper arm circumference. The instruments used in this research were interview guides, observation sheets, and tools for measuring height, weight, and upper arm circumference. Results: This research states that there is an effect of increasing height, weight, upper arm circumference in stunted children when given cookies sorghum and Moringa leaves because there is an increase after being given the intervention. Conclusion: Providing sorghum and moringa has an effect on the growth and development of stunted children in Ende Regency.Suggestion: Public health centers can provide education regarding providing additional food to stunted children by providing local foods such as sorghum and moringa. Meanwhile, the Regional Government of Ende Regency should encourage sorghum cultivation more massively.

Abstract

Background: Electric cigarettes and conventional cigarettes have a detrimental effect on their users. Cigarettes contain ingredients that reduce the quality of male reproduction. Purpose: To determine the differences in diameter and thickness of the seminiferous tubules of male Wistar rats (rattus norvegicus) exposed to electric cigarettes compared to conventional cigarettes. Method: This research is a true experimental research in the laboratory using a post test-only control group design. The treatment group consisted of group K- as the negative control group, group K+ which was included in  the smoking chamber but not exposed to cigarette smoke, group P1 which was included in the smoking chamber  and exposed to electric cigarette smoke, group P2 which was included in the smoking chamber and exposed to  conventional cigarette smoke. The treatment was carried out for 30 days and then testicular samples were taken to calculate diameter and thickness of the seminiferous tubules. Data were analyzed with SPSS using descriptive statistics and One Way ANOVA and Kruskall Wall is tests. Results: There was a decrease in the diameter and thickness of the seminiferous tubules in the treatment group which was significantly different from the control group. The results of the LSD post hoc test for differences in seminiferous tubule diameter between groups P1 and P2 were p=0.72 > 0.05. The results of the Mann Whitney test showed that the difference in seminiferous tubule thickness between groups P1 and P2 was p=0.06 > 0.05.Conclusion: Exposure to electric and conventional cigarettes caused changes in the diameter and thickness of the seminiferous tubules from normal conditions. There was no significant difference in the impact of exposure to electric and conventional cigarettes, maybe because the damage they produced was not different.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition in which an individual has persistently high blood pressure with systolic blood pressure > 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure > 90 mmHg when measured at least twice under two different conditions with a two-week interval. The causes of hypertension are broadly categorized into two risk factors: non-modifiable and modifiable. The prevalence of hypertension is still relatively high in both developed and developing countries, with a prevalence of 35% in developed countries and 40% in developing countries among the adult population. The highest prevalence of hypertension is found in the United States, at 46% of the adult population. It is estimated that 1 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension, and it is predicted that by 2025, around 29% of the global population will have hypertension.Purpose: To understand the community's perspective on the importance of improving sleep quality through listening to classical music among individuals with hypertension.Method: This qualitative research employed a case study approach, focusing on describing and understanding phenomena in the social world and the perspectives of individuals with experience. The study concentrated intensively and in detail on cases of patients with hypertension experiencing sleep quality disturbances. The research was conducted on hospital patients in Pontianak City from June 23 to 26, 2023, with a total of two respondents, and it was carried out at the respondents' homes. Data collection utilized purposive sampling through interviews, observations, and documentation over three days. The inclusion criteria were patients with a diagnosis of hypertension, stable medical conditions, compos mentis consciousness, and sleep quality disturbances. The exclusion criteria were non-cooperative patients and their families, no comorbid diseases, and patients unable to communicate in Indonesian. Results: It was found that all hypertensive patients were elderly. Both hypertensive patients at Perumnas 1 Community Health Center were female. Respondents' systolic blood pressure ranged from 140-159 mmHg or higher, and diastolic blood pressure ranged from 90-99 mmHg, indicating that women are more prone to stress. Psychologically, women have lower coping mechanisms than men in dealing with problems. If there are physical and psychological disturbances, women will experience more severe sleep disturbances than men. There was an improvement in sleep quality after classical music therapy was administered to patients with sleep quality disturbances. Therefore, classical music therapy is effective and can be utilized by individuals such as nurses or healthcare workers in Perumnas 1 Community Health Center, Pontianak City, for the advancement of nursing and healthcare knowledge. Conclusion: Appropriate classical music can have an impact on the sleep quality of elderly individuals suffering from hypertension in Pontianak City in 2023.

Abstract

Background: The high prevalence of hypertension in the elderly has serious consequences with the potential to cause various health complications, especially negative impacts on the cardiovascular system, which can include heart failure, stroke, myocardial infarction, and even fatal risks. Community-Based Nursing Intervention (CBNI) has been identified as an effective solution in efforts to improve hypertension management in the elderly population.Purpose: To evaluate the impact of CBNI on knowledge, self-efficacy, and blood pressure values of hypertensive elderly before and after the intervention.Method: The research method used was quasi-experimental with a pre-post design without a control group. A sample of 30 participants was selected through total sampling. The measurement instruments involved the assessment of knowledge, self-efficacy, as well as blood pressure measurements. The intervention included teaching about hypertension, nutritional management, and progressive muscle relaxation therapy (PMRT) combined with music therapy. Data analysis was performed using paired t-tests.Results: The research results showed significant differences before and after the intervention in the variables of knowledge (p=0.000), self-efficacy (p=0.000), systolic blood pressure (p=0.000), and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.000).Conclusion: This study highlights the positive potential of Community-Based Nursing Intervention as an approach that can be adopted and reinforces the important role of community-based nurses in providing effective care and education for the elderly population with hypertension.
