Abstract

Science literacy skills are a person's ability to apply scientific knowledge to real-world situations. This study aims to analyze students' science literacy skills. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method that aims to describe carefully and systematically the facts and nature of a particular population. The sample in this study was 56 students of Biology Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Labuhanbatu. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. Data collection techniques in the form of essay tests and questionnaires. Data analysis techniques using the Miles and Huberman Model. The results of the study showed that the science literacy ability of students of the Biology Education Study Program was still classified as "low". The highest science literacy ability was in the content aspect of 35.71% while for the lowest test results in the attitude aspect of 3.57%. The low ability of science literacy students of the Biology Education Study Program at Labuhanbatu University, so that efforts are made to improve, especially in aspects of attitudes that are still unsatisfactory by structuring the scope of the material provided and the lecture process carried out, choosing the right and interesting media/learning model so that the atmosphere in the lecture process becomes more effective.Abstrak Kemampuan literasi sains merupakan kemampuan seseorang untuk menerapkan pengetahuan ilmiah pada situasi dunia nyata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan literasi sains mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang bertujuan menggambarkan secara cermat dan sistematis mengenai fakta dan sifat populasi tertentu. Sampel dalam penelitian ini mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan, Universitas Labuhanbatu yang berjumlah 56 mahasiswa. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes essay dan kuesioner. Teknik analisis data menggunakan Model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan literasi sains mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan biologi masih tergolong “rendah”. Kemampuan literasi sains yang tertinggi yaitu pada aspek konten 35,71% sedangkan untuk hasil tes terendah pada aspek sikap yaitu 3,57%. Rendahnya kemapuan literasi sains mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi Universitas Labuhanbatu, agar dilakukan upaya untuk peningkatan terutama pada aspek sikap yang masih belum memuaskan dengan cara melalui penataan ruang lingkup materi yang diberikan serta proses perkuliahan yang dilakukan, memilih media/model pembelajaran yang tepat dan menarik agar suasana dalam proses perkuliahan menjadi lebih efektif.

Abstract

Based on the demands of the learning curriculum in the classroom, it must create an atmosphere that is active, creative, analytical, and critical in solving problems through the development of thinking skills. However, the involvement of students in learning activities in class is still low. The research aims to determine the need for ICT-based biology teaching materials and the constraints in applying them. The research used a qualitative descriptive approach, the subjects of the research were class X students, biology teachers, ICT teachers, and Deputy Principal for Curriculum. The sampling technique used purposive sampling technique. The research procedure goes through three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and member check. Based on the research results, the biology learning process still uses contextual models and lecture methods. It is also that 83.3% of students said they needed ICT teaching materials to understand the material, concretize abstract material, and increase interaction in the learning process. Constraints in implementing ICT-based teaching materials are classified into physical and non-physical facilities. Physical facilities in the form of learning equipment, while non-physical means lack time and lack of training in designing ICT-integrated learning. Teacher expertise in ICT-based learning needs to be trained so that students can be more active in the learning process.AbstrakBerdasarkan tuntutan kurikulum pembelajaran di kelas harus menciptakan suasana yang aktif, kreatif, analisis, dan kritis dalam pemecahan masalah melalui pengembangan keterampilan berpikir. Namun keterlibatan peserta didik dalam kegiatan pembelajaran di kelas masih rendah. Penelitian bertujuan mengetahui kebutuhan bahan ajar biologi berbasis TIK dan kendala dalam menerapkannya. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, subjek penelitian adalah peserta didik kelas X, guru biologi, guru TIK dan Wakil Kepala Sekolah Bidang Kurikulum. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Prosedur penelitian melalui tiga tahap yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan member check. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, proses pembelajaran biologi masih menggunakan model kontekstual dan metode ceramah. Diketahui pula 83,3% peserta didik mengungkapkan membutuhkan bahan ajar TIK untuk memahami materi, mengkonkretkan materi yang abstrak, serta meningkatkan interaksi dalam proses pembelajaran. Kendala dalam menerapkan bahan ajar berbasis TIK digolongkan menjadi dua yaitu sarana fisik dan non fisik. Sarana fisik berupa peralatan belajar, sedangkan secara non fisik adalah kekurangan waktu dan belum terlatihnya dalam mendesain pembelajaran terintegrasi TIK. Keahliah guru dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran berbasis TIK perlu dilatih agar peserta didik dapat lebih aktif dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

The independent curriculum is a newly created implementation, so schools and teachers as educators play an important role in the success of the program. The purpose of this study is to analyze the preparation for the implementation of the independent curriculum and find out the preparation in the application of science learning which is a combination of science and social studies. The research was carried out from August 2022-January 2023, where the research was carried out at UPTD SD Negeri 09 Panai Tengah, Labuhanbatu Regency. The samples in this study were vice principals, curriculum representatives and grade 4 teachers as research subjects. Data collection techniques are carried out by in-depth interviews. This study used the miles and huberman method. The results of this study show that, in preparing for the implementation of the independent curriculum, there is science learning, schools will prepare learning equipment plans and prepare teaching materials, but still require training and application gradually. Currently, preparations towards the implementation of the independent curriculum in these schools have reached 75% and will be optimized and implemented in the 2023/2024 school year.Abstrak Kurikulum merdeka merupakan implementasi yang baru diciptakan, maka sekolah dan guru sebagai pendidik sangat berperan penting dalam menyukseskan program tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis persiapan penerapan kurikulum merdeka serta mengetahui persiapan dalam penerapan pembelajaran IPAS yang merupakan kombinasi dari IPA dan IPS. Penelitian dilaksanakan mulai bulan Agustus 2022 – Januari 2023, tempat penelitian dilakukan di UPTD SD Negeri 09 Panai Tengah, Kabupaten Labuhanbatu. Sampel dalam Penelitian ini adalah wakil kepala sekolah, wakil bidang kurikulum dan guru kelas 4 sebagai subjek penelitian. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam (In-depth Interview). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode miles dan huberman. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam mempersiapkan penerapan kurikulum merdeka, ada pembelajaran IPAS, sekolah akan menyusun rencana perangkat pembelajaran dan mempersiapkan bahan ajar, namun masih membutuhkan pelatihan dan penerapan secara bertahap. Saat ini, persiapan menuju penerapan kurikulum merdeka di sekolah tersebut sudah mencapai 75% dan akan dioptimalkan serta diterapkan pada tahun ajaran 2023/2024.

Abstract

Interest greatly determines student learning outcomes both academically and non-academically. Students' interest in learning decreased due to factors in learning methods that were less memorable and learning media factors that were less attractive. This study aims to describe the learning interest of class XI students at SMAN 1 Panai Hulu in biology subject. Subjects in the study were students XI IPA1, XI IPA2 and XI IPA3, with a total of 105 people. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive research. Data collection techniques using questionnaires, observation, and interviews. The results of research that has been carried out with four indicators are obtained, namely the feeling of pleasure of students in participating in learning by 75.77%, student attention to learning by 70.78%, student interest in learning by 74.04%, student involvement in learning by 73.91 %. Based on these results, it can be concluded that students' interest in learning biology in class XI IPA1, XI IPA2 and XI IPA3 at SMAN 1 Panai Hulu is high. Even though students' learning interest is high, student activity is still influenced by the completeness of learning media.AbstrakMinat sangat menentukan hasil belajar siswa baik secara akademik maupun non akademik. Minat belajar siswa menurun dikarenakan faktor cara belajar yang kurang berkesan dan faktor media pembelajaran yang kurang menarik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan minat belajar siswa kelas XI di SMAN 1 Panai Hulu pada mata pelajaran biologi. Subjek dalam penelitian adalah siswa XI IPA1, XI IPA2 dan XI IPA3, dengan total sebanyak 105 orang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar angket, observasi, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan dengan empat indikator didapatkan yaitu perasaan senang siswa dalam mengikuti pembelajaran sebesar 75,77%, perhatian siswa terhadap pembelajaran sebesar 70,78%,  ketertarikan siswa terhadap pembelajaran sebesar 74,04%, keterlibatan siswa terhadap pembelajaran sebesar 73,91%. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan minat belajar siswa kelas XI IPA1, XI IPA2 dan XI IPA3 di SMAN 1 Panai Hulu terhadap pembelajaran biologi adalah sangat tinggi. Meskipun minat belajar peserta didik tinggi, keaktifan peserta didik masih dipengaruhi oleh kelengkapan media pembelajaran.

Abstract

The needs analysis shows that students must improve their critical thinking skills. The number of students who could differentiate various types of mold conidia based on their structure was also smaller. The purpose of this research and development was to test the effectiveness of audiovisual media on the topic “Mold” based on Guided Inquiry on “Microscope Using Techniques, Description of Colony Morphological Characteristics, and Mold Microscopy” to improve students’ critical thinking skills. This type of research is a quasi-experimental study with the Non-randomized Pretest Posttest Control Group design and follows the stages of the development model from Lee and Owens. Data collection uses validation sheets, response questionnaires, pretest, and posttest questions. Data analysis used the N-Gain score and the Mann Whitney test. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental class which was taught using audiovisual media on the topic “Mold” based on Guided Inquiry, compared to the control class which was taught using conventional Power Point (PPt) media without audiovisual media, so it can be concluded that the media audiovisual on the topic “Mold” is effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills.Abstrak Analisis kebutuhan menunjukkan mahasiswa masih perlu meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Jumlah mahasiswa yang mampu membedakan macam-macam konidia kapang berdasarkan strukturnya juga lebih sedikit. Tujuan penelitian dan pengembangan ini adalah untuk menguji keefektifan media audiovisual pada topik “Kapang” berbasis Guided Inquiry tentang “Teknik Penggunaan Mikroskop, Deskripsi Ciri-ciri Morfologi Koloni, dan Mikroskopis Kapang” untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuasi eksperimental dengan desain Non-randomized Pretest Posttest Control Group dan mengikuti tahapan model pengembangan dari Lee dan Owens. Pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar validasi, angket respon, soal pretest dan posttest. Analisis data menggunakan N-Gain score dan uji Mann Whitney. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan antara kelas eksperimen yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan media audiovisual pada topik “Kapang” berbasis Guided Inquiry, dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan media Power Point (PPt) secara konvensional tanpa media audiovisual, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa media audiovisual pada topik “Kapang” efektif meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is the skill and ability to write and read, conclude a lesson learned, explain phenomena around us, and identify a question. This research aims to analyze the scientific literacy abilities of class VII students in science teaching at SMP Negeri 4 Kampung Rakyat. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The sample for this research was 30 students and three teachers at SMP Negeri 4 Kampung Rakyat. The population in this research is all students and teachers. Data collection techniques include questionnaires, observation, and interviews. The research results show that students who could solve questions based on scientific phenomena obtained a percentage of 89.48% in the first indicator. In contrast, in the second indicator, students who could understand and draw conclusions received 54.34%. In the third indicator, students who could explain their knowledge of scientific literacy results were 57.19%. The decision is that students' scientific literacy abilities in solving problems based on phenomena are already high. In contrast, the indicators for drawing conclusions and explaining knowledge still need to be improved. This study can be a basis for further research focusing on learning innovation to improve indicators that are still need to enhancing.Abstrak Literasi sains adalah suatu keahlian dan kemampuan dalam menulis maupun membaca, menarik suatu kesimpulan dalam suatu pembelajaran yang dipelajari, mampu menjelaskan fenomena yang ada di sekitar, dan dapat mengindentifikasi suatu pertanyaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan literasi sains pada peserta didik kelas VII dalam Pembelajaran IPA di SMP Negeri 4 Kampung rakyat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 30 peserta didik dan tiga guru di SMP Negeri 4 Kampung rakyat. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah adalah seluruh peserta didik dan guru. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi angket, observasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pada indikator pertama peserta didik yang mampu menyelesaikan soal berdasarkan fenomena ilmiah memperoleh hasil persentase 89.48%. Sebaliknya, pada indikataor kedua peserta didik yang dapat memahami dan memberikan penarikan kesimpulan memperoleh hasil persentase 54.34%, dan pada indikator ketiga peserta didik yang mampu menjelaskan pengetahuan literasi sains memperoleh hasil persentase 57.19%. Kesimpulannya adalah kemampuan literasi sains peserta didik dalam menyelesaikan soal berdasarkan fenomena sudah tinggi. Sebaliknya, indikator menarik kesimpulan dan menjelaskan pengetahuan masih perlu ditingkatkan. Studi ini dapat menjadi dasar untuk penelitian selanjutnya dalam memfokuskan inovasi pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan indikator yang masih perlu ditingkatkan.

Abstract

Local potential can be used as a learning resource to preserve community knowledge in using specific plants and instil a sense of love in students for the potential in their area. Learning resources like Popular Scientific Books (PSB) based on local potential can train students' critical thinking skills. The research aims to describe the effectiveness of the PSB Fabaceae ethnobotany in Forest Areas with Special Purposes (KHDTK) ULM training students' critical thinking skills. The research method uses the Educational Design Research (EDR) model through Tessmer's formative evaluation. The development stages include a small group of 5 students and a field test of 20 Biology Education undergraduate students who have passed the Ethnobotany course one year. Students' critical thinking skills are improved through working on practicum guides and evaluation questions, which contain aspects of critical thinking skills. The research results of students' critical thinking skills are in the medium category, with an average N-Gain of 0.5. Based on these results, it can be concluded that BIP effectively improves students' critical thinking skills. Students who have critical thinking skills are expected to be able to improve the quality of human resources, especially in the field of education.Abstrak Potensi lokal dapat dijadikan sumber belajar untuk melestarikan pengetahuan masyarakat dalam pemanfaatan tumbuhan tertentu dan menanamkan rasa cinta mahasiswa terhadap potensi di daerahnya sendiri. Sumber belajar berupa Buku Ilmiah Populer (BIP) berbasis potensi lokal dapat melatihkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Tujuan penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan keefektifan BIP etnobotani Fabaceae di Kawasan Hutan dengan Tujuan Khusus (KHDTK) ULM dalam melatihkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Metode penelitian menggunakan model Educational Desain Research (EDR) melalui evaluasi formatif Tessmer. Tahapan pengembangan meliputi kelompok kecil 5 mahasiswa dan uji lapangan 20 mahasiswa S1 Pendidikan Biologi yang telah lulus mata kuliah  Etnobotani. Keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa ditingkatkan melalui pengerjaan penuntun praktikum dan soal evaluasi yang memuat aspek keterampilan berpikir kritis. Hasil penelitian keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa  berkategori sedang dengan rata-rata N-Gain 0,5. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan BIP efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Mahasiswa yang memiliki keterampilan berpikir kritis diharapkan mampu untuk meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia khususnya di bidang pendidikan.

Abstract

One effort that can be made to build students' critical thinking skills is to develop popular scientific books (PSB) that are systematic and easy for students to understand. This research aims to describe the effectiveness of the PSB Ethnopharmacology in Pendahara Village, Ngaju Dayak Community Area, for Training Students' Critical Thinking Skills. The development stage includes self-evaluation, expert testing, individual testing, small group testing, and field testing. The research subjects were five students for the small group test and 20 for the field test. The effectiveness of PSB is analyzed descriptively. The research results show that the developed PSB was declared effective. Based on this data, the average N-Gain value is 0.5, resulting in a medium N-Gain category. Base on this research results, it can be concluded that the PSB on ethnopharmacology in Pendahara Village, Ngaju Dayak Community Area, is effectively used in training students' critical thinking skills.Abstrak Salah satu usaha yang dapat dilakukan dalam membangun keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa adalah mengembangkan buku ilmiah popular (BIP) yang sistematis dan mudah dipahami mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan keefektifan BIP Etnofarmakologi Desa Pendahara Kawasan Masyarakat Dayak Ngaju untuk Melatihkan Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis Mahasiswa. Tahap pengembangan meliputi evaluasi diri, uji pakar, uji perorangan, uji kelompok kecil, uji lapangan. Subjek penelitian adalah 5 mahasiswan untuk uji kelompok kecil dan 20 mahasiswa untuk uji lapangan. Keefektifan BIP dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan BIP yang dikembangkan dinyatakan efektif. Berdasarkan data tersebut maka nilai rerata N-Gain 0,5 sehingga diperoleh kategori N-Gain sedang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa BIP etnofarmakologi Desa Pendahara Kawasan Masyarakat Dayak Ngaju efektif digunakan dalam melatih keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa.

Abstract

Differentiated learning has advantages, which include being able to improve student learning outcomes, optimize student needs, and increase student enthusiasm for learning. Besides that, students, when learning the concept of food digestion, appear passive and unenthusiastic, and this results in low learning outcomes. The research aim is to determine the improvement in learning outcomes of class XI students in the biology subject, the concept of food digestion. This research was the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which consists of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects of this class action research were XI class students at Anjir Pasar State Senior High School, a total of 28 students, consisting of 17 females and 11 males. This research was divided into two cycles. Based on this research finding, differentiated learning is able to improve the achievement of student learning outcomes. The average learning outcomes of cycle I meeting 1 with a score of 75 and meeting 2 with a score of 79.85. In cycle II, meeting 3, student learning outcomes increased with an average score of 81.25 and in meeting 4, with a score of 82.32. Differentiated learning increases enthusiasm, is able to train independence, improves learning outcomes in each cycle, and obtains positive responses from students. This research needs to be tested for its long-term impact through ongoing research, and teachers can also be given training to support the implementation of this learning method.Abstrak Pembelajaran berdiferensiasi memiliki keunggulan yang meliputi dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa, mengoptimalkan kebutuhan siswa, dan meningkatkan antusiasme siswa dalam belajar. Disamping itu, siswa dalam pembelajaran konsep pencernaan makanan tampak pasif, tidak antusias, dan berdampak pada rendahnya hasil belajar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar siswa kelas XI pada mata pelajaran biologi konsep pencernaan makanan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian tindakan kelas ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri Anjir Pasar yang berjumlah 28, terdiri dari 17 perempuan dan 11 laki-laki. Penelitian ini terbagi menjadi 2 siklus. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, pembelajaran berdiferensiasi mampu meningkatkan pencapaian hasil belajar siswa. Rata-rata hasil belajar siklus I pertemuan 1 dengan skor 75 dan pertemuan 2 dengan skor 79,85. Pada siklus II pertemuan 3 hasil belajar siswa meningkat dengan skor rata-rata 81,25 dan pertemuan 4 dengan skor 82,32. Pembelajaran berdiferensiasi meningkatkan antusiasme, mampu melatih kemandirian, meningkatkan hasil belajar pada setiap siklus, dan memperoleh respon positif dari siswa. Penelitian ini perlu diuji dampak jangka panjangnya melalui penelitian berkelanjutan dan guru juga dapat diberikan pelatihan untuk mendukung implementasi metode pembelajaran ini.

Abstract

Learning is a core element in education, especially in achieving the goals of educational institutions. Through science learning, students can improve their self-esteem and understand their natural surroundings. Science learning involves scientific methods to develop students' thinking patterns. Project-based learning aims to develop conceptual understanding through investigating significant problems and producing products. The learning model must also be tested for its influence on students' creative thinking abilities, including biotechnology material. This study aims to determine the significant correlation between project-based learning and students' creative thinking skills. This study uses a quantitative approach. The statistical test uses the Pearson product-moment correlation analysis technique. The data showed a positive relationship between biotechnology-themed project-based learning and students' creative thinking skills. Project-based learning can help students improve creative thinking skills and be more contextual or meaningful so students can easily remember them.Abstrak Belajar adalah unsur inti dalam pendidikan, khususnya dalam mencapai tujuan lembaga pendidikan. Melalui pembelajaran IPA, peserta didik dapat meningkatkan kualitas diri dan memahami alam sekitar. Pembelajaran IPA melibatkan metode ilmiah untuk mengembangkan pola pikir peserta didik. Pembelajaran berbasis proyek bertujuan untuk mengembangkan pemahaman konseptual melalui penyelidikan masalah yang signifikan dan menghasilkan produk. Model pembelajaran juga perlu diuji pengaruhnya terhadap kemampuan berpikir kreatif peserta didik, salah satunya pada materi bioteknologi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan yang signifikan antara pembelajaran berbasis proyek dengan keterampilan berpikir kreatif peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Pengujian statistik menggunakan teknik analisis korelasi product moment Pearson. Berdasarkan hasil data tersebut, diperoleh hubungan yang positif antara pembelajaran berbasis proyek bertema bioteknologi dengan keterampilan berpikir kreatif peserta didik. Pembelajaran berbasis proyek dapat membantu peserta didik untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kreatif dan lebih kontekstual atau lebih bermakna sehingga dapat dengan mudah diingat oleh peserta didik.
