Abstract

Cognitive skills that are important to note in students are critical thinking skills. Efforts can be made to build students' critical thinking skills through the learning process, supported by innovative teaching materials such as Student Worksheets (SW). This study aims to describe the effectiveness of SW based on critical thinking skills developed in the biology subject of class XI senior high school odd semester. The development stage includes self-evaluation, expert testing, individual testing, small group testing, and field testing. The research subjects were three experts for the validity test, three students for the individual test, seven for the small group test, and 25 for the field test. The effectiveness of SW was analyzed descriptively. The study results showed that the SW developed was stated to be effectively used with effective criteria. Based on these data, the average N-Gain value is 0.53, so the N-Gain category is medium. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the developed SW based on critical thinking skills in Biology class XI subject matter was effectively used in learning activities.Abstrak Keterampilan kognitif yang penting diperhatikan pada diri peserta didik adalah keterampilan berpikir kritis. Usaha yang dapat dilakukan dalam membangun keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik adalah melalui proses pembelajaran, yang didukung oleh penggunaan bahan ajar inovatif seperti Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD). Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan keefektifan LKPD berbasis keterampilan berpikir kritis yang dikembangkan pada mata pelajaran biologi SMA kelas XI semester ganjil. Tahap pengembangan meliputi evaluasi diri, uji pakar, uji perorangan, uji kelompok kecil, uji lapangan. Subjek penelitian adalah 3 pakar untuk uji validitas, 3 peserta didik untuk uji perorangan, 7 peserta didik untuk uji kelompok kecil dan 25 peserta didik untuk uji lapangan. Keefektifan LKPD dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan LKPD yang dikembangkan dinyatakan efektif digunakan dengan kriteria efektif. Berdasarkan data tersebut maka nilai rerata N-Gain 0,53 sehingga diperoleh kategori N-Gain sedang. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa LKPD berbasis keterampilan berpikir kritis pada materi pelajaran biologi kelas XI yang dikembangkan efektif digunakan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran.

Abstract

The availability of teaching materials greatly supports the quality of learning and helps students understand the subject matter. A teacher needs to convey material based on students' characteristics and the applicable curriculum to achieve an effective and efficient learning process. This study aims to analyze the need to develop biology handouts on human circulatory system material. The data collection instrument is using an online questionnaire. The research data were analyzed descriptively. The subjects of this study consisted of a biology teacher and 123 students of class XII MIA. The results showed the analysis of students' needs for the development of biology teaching materials on the concept of the human circulatory system with a percentage of 69.9%. Teaching materials significantly impact the ease of learning biology, and handouts are essential at these research locations. Similar research also needs to be carried out at various levels of education and on different materials.Abstrak Ketersediaan bahan ajar sangat mendukung kualitas pembelajaran dan membantu peserta didik memahami materi pelajaran. Seorang guru perlu menyampaikan materi yang sesuai dengan karakteristik peserta didik dan kurikulum yang berlaku untuk mencapai proses pembelajaran secara efektif dan efisien. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perlunya pengembangan handout biologi pada materi sistem peredaran darah manusia. Instrumen pengumpulan data yaitu menggunakan kuisioner secara online. Data penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Subyek penelitian ini terdiri dari seorang guru biologi dan 123 peserta didik kelas XII MIA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa analisis kebutuhan peserta didik terhadap pengembangan bahan ajar biologi pada konsep sistem peredaran darah manusia dengan persentase 69,9%. Bahan ajar berdampak signifikan terhadap kemudahan belajar biologi, dan handout penting di lokasi penelitian ini. Penelitian serupa juga perlu dilakukan pada berbagai jenjang pendidikan dan pada materi yang berbeda.

Abstract

The free inquiry-based module supports independent research-based learning among undergraduate students. Adding case studies to the modules will encourage students to apply concepts to real-world situations to improve their thinking skills. Therefore, this study aims to improve the critical thinking skills of biology education students at Jambi University using case-study-based free inquiry modules. This study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the Kurt Lewin model, which consists of two cycles. The subjects of this study were 36 second-semester biology education students taking environmental science courses. The data collection techniques included questionnaires, critical thinking tests, and observation sheets. Data analysis techniques used quantitative descriptive analysis. Our findings indicated that critical thinking skills among undergraduate students in each cycle increased by an average of 23.01%. This means that the case-study-based free inquiry module successfully improves the critical thinking skills of biology education students.Abstrak Modul berbasis free inquiry mendukung pembelajaran berbasis penelitian secara mandiri pada mahasiswa. Sementara penambahan studi kasus pada modul akan mendorong mahasiswa untuk menerapkan konsep pada situasi nyata untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir mereka. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat implikasi penggunaan modul free inquiry berbasis studi kasus terhadap peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa pendidikan biologi Universitas Jambi. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Kurt Lewin yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah 36 mahasiswa pendidikan biologi semester dua yang mengambil mata kuliah ilmu lingkungan. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket, instrument test ketarmpilan berpikir kritis, dan lembar observasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis kuantitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa pada setiap siklus rata-rata meningkat sebesar 23,01%. Artinya penggunaan modul free inquiry berbasis studi kasus berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa pendidikan biologi.

Abstract

Learning activities were carried out online during the Covid-19 pandemic. Students must improve their ability to write biological scientific papers and apply them in the real world, even presenting them during distance learning. This research is classroom action research that aims to improve the mastery of cell transport concepts and their ability to write scientific papers through online learning. The research was conducted in class XI MIPA 1 at SMA Negeri 2 Purwakarta with 36 students with three cycles of treatment using a constructivist approach with a modified inquiry model. Each cycle is based on a reflection of the previous cycle. The test result data in each cycle is analyzed by comparing the data before and after treatment. Observation data about scientific writing components was analyzed to identify difficulties experienced by students. The results showed that the average learning outcomes for mastery concepts increased by 54.2% using the N-gain score, which means that the treatment significantly impacts mastering the concept of cell transport. The ability of scientific writing papers shows an increase of 11.25%. These classroom action research results show that making scientific writing papers can improve mastery of cell transport, and this may be a recommendation for teaching methods on other concepts.Abstrak Kegiatan pembelajaran dilaksanakan secara daring selama pandemi covid 19. Kemampuan peserta didik dalam menulis karya ilmiah biologi dan menerapkannya dalam dunia nyata penting ditingkatkan, bahkan presentasi saat belajar jarak jauh. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan konsep transportasi sel, dan meningkatkan kemampuan menulis karya ilmiah dengan pembelajaran daring. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas XI MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 2 Purwakarta yang berjumlah 36 siswa, dengan perlakuan 3 siklus menggunakan pendekatan konstruktivisme dengan model inkuiri yang dimodifikasi. Setiap siklus didasarkan pada refleksi dari siklus sebelumnya. Data hasil tes setiap siklus dianalisis dengan membandingkan data sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Data observasi tentang komponen penulisan ilmiah dianalisis untuk mengidentifikasi kesulitan yang dialami siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata hasil belajar penguasaan konsep meningkat sebesar 54,2% dengan menggunakan skor N-gain yang berarti perlakuan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap penguasaan konsep transportasi sel. Kemampuan menulis karya ilmiah menunjukkan peningkatan sebesar 11,25%. Hasil penelitian tindakan kelas ini menunjukkan bahwa pembuatan karya tulis ilmiah dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep transportasi sel, dan dapat menjadi rekomendasi metode pengajaran pada konsep lainnya.

Abstract

Independence in learning is very necessary for the application of online learning. Students as learners must have Self Directed Learning. This study aims to develop independent learning resources to facilitate student learning independence. Development research using the ADDIE model is carried out until the development stage. Needs analysis is conducted on 49 Biology Education Students with data collection instruments using the SDL test consisting of 5 question indicators: 1) Identifying learning needs; 2) Set up study routines and discover concept mappings; 3) Using concept/outline mapping as a useful understanding various information; 4) Self-assessment, honing potential; 5) Can explore self-ability. The test results show that in indicator 1 there are 9 students (18.37%) and indicator 5 as many as 11 students (22.45%) who have SDL abilities. The results of the needs analysis become the basis for the development of interactive electronic books through features such as material summaries, images, animations, videos, references (links and barcodes), interactive exercises, keywords, interest facts, practice questions, formative tests, and reflections. It is hoped that this interactive e-book can increase the independence of undergraduate and PPG students in studying biotechnology material as a source of independent learning.Abstrak Kemandirian belajar sangat diperlukan dalam penerapan pembelajaran daring. Mahasiswa sebagai pembelajar harus memiliki kemandirian belajar (Self Directed Learning/SDL). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sumber belajar mandiri untuk memfasilitasi kemandirian belajar mahasiswa. Penelitian pengembangan menggunakan model ADDIE penelitian ini dilakukan sampai tahap development. Analisis kebutuhan, dilakukan pada 49 orang Mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi dengan instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan tes SDL terdiri dari 5 indikator pertanyaan: 1) Mengidentifikasi kebutuhan belajar; 2) Mengatur rutinitas belajar dan menemukan pemetaan konsep; 3) Menggunakan pemetaan konsep/garis besar sebagai metode yang berguna untuk memahami berbagai informasi; 4) Menilai sendiri, merefleksikan dan mengasah potensi; 5) Bisa mengeksplor kemampuan diri. Hasil tes menunjukkan pada indikator 1 sebanyak 9 orang (18,37%) dan 5 sebanyak  11 orang  (22,45%) yang memiliki kemampuan SDL. Hasil analisis kebutuhan menjadi dasar untuk pengembangan buku elektronik interaktif melalui fitur-fitur barupa ringkasan materi, gambar, animasi, video, referensi (link dan barcode), latihan interaktif, key word, interesring fact, latihan soal, tes formatif dan refleksi. Diharapkan e-book interaktif ini dapat meningkatkan kemandirian mahasiswa S1 dan PPG dalam mempelajari materi bioteknologi sebagai sumber belajar mandiri.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global issue initiated by the United Nations. One goal of SDGs is "clean water and sanitation" regarding water pollution issues. This research aims to develop learning media on the material "Water pollution" in the form of 360° Videos and water purification tools to introduce Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), determine the effectiveness of learning innovations in improving learning outcomes, and also determine the feasibility of 360° Video learning media and water purification tools. This research is developing learning media with 4D models (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate). The media developed are 360° Video and water purification devices. The value of 360° video validation is 93.3%, and the water purification device is 91.25% with the very valid category. The learning media developed was able to improve learning outcomes with an N-Gain value of 0.508 in the medium category. The value of effectiveness is 80.66% with the effective category. 360° Videos and water purification tools improved student learning outcomes, SDGS understanding of the clean water and sanitation goals, and student enthusiasm.Abstrak Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  merupakan isu global yang diinisiasi oleh PBB. Salah satu tujuan SDGs yaitu Clean water and Sanitation, berdasarkan masalah pencemaran air.  Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran pada materi “pencemaran air” dalam bentuk Video 360° dan alat penjernihan air untuk memperkenalkan Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), dan menentukan efektivitas inovasi pembelajaran dan kelayakan Video 360° dan alat penjernihan air. Penelitian ini merupakan pengembangan media pembelajaran dengan model 4D (Define, Design, Development, dan Disseminate). Media yang dikembangkan yaitu Video 360° dan alat penjernihan air. Hasil validasi video 360 yaitu 93,3% dan alat penjernihan air yaitu 91,25% dengan kategori sangat valid. Media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan mampu meningkatkan hasil belajar dengan nilai N-Gain sebesar 0,508 pada kategori sedang.  Pada aspek efektivitas, mendpatkan nilai 80,66% dengan kategori efektif.  Video 360° dan alat penjernihan air mampu meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa, pemahaman SDGs Clean water and Sanitation dan antusiasme siswa.

Abstract

The virus teaching module based on project based learning (PjBL) was developed as an innovative learning medium and is expected to accommodate students' learning needs to improve their creative thinking abilities. This research aims to validate the PjBL-based virus teaching module for valid creative thinking abilities. This research uses a four-D (4D) research and development model but only reaches the product validity stage. Validation was carried out by two validators, namely experts in the field of biology, especially regarding viruses, and education experts. The instrument used is a validity sheet which includes aspects of suitability of content, grammar, sentences with indicators of creative thinking abilities. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive techniques with a Likert scale resulting from validation carried out by the validator. The research results show that the average open module validity score is 3.3 with a very valid category. Therefore, the project-based learning module based on the teaching virus that was developed is very valid and can be used to train the creative thinking of class X SMA/MA students. This research needs to be followed up by continuing the implementation of broader research to prove how practical and effective the PjBL-based virus teaching module is when used by students in learning.Abstrak Modul ajar virus berbasis project based learning (PjBL) dikembangkan sebagai media pembelajaran yang inovatif dan diharapkan dapat mengakomodasi kebutuhan belajar peserta didik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kreatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memvalidasi modul ajar virus berbasis PjBL terhadap kemampuan berpikir kreatif yang valid. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian dan pengembangan four-D models (4D) namun hanya sampai pada tahap validitas produk. Validasi dilakukan oleh dua orang validator yaitu pakar dalam bidang biologi khususnya mengenai virus dan pakar pendidikan. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa lembar validitas yang meliputi aspek kesesuaian isi, tata bahasa, kalimat dengan indikator kemampuan berpikir kreatif. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik deskriptif kuantitatif dengan skala Likert hasil validasi yang dilakukan oleh validator. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan skor rata-rata validitas modul ajar sebesar 3,3 dengan kategori sangat valid. Oleh karena itu, modul ajar virus berbasis project based learning  yang dikembangkan sangat valid dan dapat digunakan untuk melatih berpikir kreatif peserta didik kelas X SMA/MA. Penelitian ini perlu ditindaklanjuti dengan melanjutkan penelitian implementasi yang lebih luas untuk membuktikan seberapa praktis dan efektif modul ajar virus berbasis PjBL saat digunakan oleh peserta didik dalam pembelajaran.

Abstract

Students use their smartphones for daily tasks whenever and wherever they go, and they interact with their surroundings more directly as a result. One media that carries out the advancement of technology and communication is electronic books or e-books. E-books are one kind of educational resource that needs to be created because students may easily access them only using smartphones, either offline or online. Local learning resources can be used to train critical thinking skills. This development research aims to examine the expectation and actual effectiveness of e-books to train students’ critical thinking skills. The research method used Tessmer’s formative evaluation design. The research results show that expected effectiveness got an N-gain score of 0.47 in the medium category, and actual effectiveness got an N-gain score of 0.50 in the medium category. In conclusion, it shows that the e-book “Ethno-Ecology Study of Magnoliopsida in Desa Kiram” is to be used as training material for students’ critical thinking skills.Abstrak Penggunaan smartphone tidak terlepas dari kegiatan sehari-hari kapanpun dan di manapun mahasiswa berada, serta mahasiswa lebih sering berinteraksi langsung dengan lingkungan sekitar mereka. Salah satu media yang mengimplementasikan perkembangan teknologi dan komunikasi adalah E-book. E-book menjadi media pembelajaran yang perlu dikembangkan karena mudah diakses oleh mahasiswa hanya dengan penggunaan smartphone secara offline ataupun online. Sumber belajar berpotensi lokal dapat digunakan dalam melatihkan keterampilan berpikir kritis. Penelitian pengembangan ini bertujuan untuk menguji keefektifan harapan dan aktual e-book dalam melatihkan keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Metode penelitian menggunakan desain evaluasi formatif Tessmer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan keefektifan harapan memperoleh skor N-gain 0,47 dengan kategori sedang, dan keefektifan aktual memperoleh skor N-gain 0,50 dengan kategori sedang. Kesimpulan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa e-book “Kajian Etno-Ekologi Magnoliopsida di Desa Kiram” yang dikembangkan efektif dalam melatih keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa.

Abstract

Students need to be trained in critical thinking by developing teaching materials based on local potential, one of which is popular scientific books (PSB) that support the application of knowledge and critical thinking skills in understanding the surrounding environment. This research aims to test the effectiveness of PSB based on local potential regarding the ethnopharmacology of the Balinese community in Barambai Kolam Kanan Village in training students' critical thinking skills. This study is research into the development of formative evaluation based on the Tessmer design which focuses on students' critical thinking skills using a rubric of five indicators including interpretation, assumptions, deduction, argument evaluation, and inference. The effectiveness test subjects involved 5 students (expected effectiveness) and 20 students (actual effectiveness). The research results are based on the hope effectiveness test (small group) of the developed PSB with an average value of 64.0. Meanwhile, the actual effectiveness test (field test) obtained an average score of 73.7, increasing to 89.1. So the average N-gain value is 0.6 which is in the medium category. This illustrates that BIP based on local potential has been effectively implemented in learning to improve critical thinking skills.AbstrakBerpikir kritis mahasiswa perlu dilatih dengan mengembangkan bahar ajar berbasis potensi lokal salah satunya buku ilmiah populer yang mendukung penerapan pengetahuan serta keterampilan berpikir kritis dalam pemahaman lingkungan sekitar. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji keefektivan BIP berbasis potensi lokal tentang Etnofarmakologi masyarakat Bali di Desa Barambai Kolam Kanan dalam melatih keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa. Kajian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan evaluasi formatif berdasarkan desain Tessmer yang berfokus pada keterampilan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dengan menggunakan rubrik lima indikator meliputi interpretasi, asumsi, deduksi, evaluasi argumen, dan inferensi. Subjek uji keefektivan melibatkan 5 orang mahasiswa (keefektivan harapan) dan 20 orang mahasiswa (keefektivan aktual). Hasil penelitian berdasarkan uji keefektivan harapan (small group) terhadap BIP yang dikembangkan dengan nilai rata-rata 64,0. Sedangkan uji keefektivan aktual (field test) mendapatkan nilai rata-rata 73,7 meningkat menjadi 89,1. Maka nila rata-rata N-gain sebesar 0,6 yang berada pada kategori sedang. Hal tersebut menggambarkan BIP berbasis potensi lokal telah efektif dilaksanakan dalam pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis.

Abstract

The high-level thinking abilities of students in Indonesia still need to improve. This is shown by the results of international studies such as PISA and TIMSS; Indonesia's ranking in these programs still needs to be at a higher level. Therefore, this research aims to determine the profile of high-level thinking abilities in problem-based learning differentiation. The method used is quantitative descriptive. The research subjects were MAN 2 Sukabumi City students, with a total of 26 students. The sampling technique, namely purposive sampling, is based on the student's ability to see a problem and play an active role in the learning process. This is based on recommendations from the subject teacher. This research shows that the N-gain value for high-level thinking abilities in the upper, middle, and lower groups is in the medium category, namely in the upper group with a value of 0.64, the middle group with 0.37, and the lower group with a value of 0.36. Therefore, differentiation-based problem-based learning (PBL) is effective for all groups in improving high-level thinking abilities.AbstrakKemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi peserta didik di Indonesia masih cukup rendah hal ini ditunjukan dari hasil studi internasional seperti PISA dan TIMSS, peringkat Indonesia pada program tersebut masih berada ditingkat rendah oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui profil kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi pada pembelajaran problem based learning berbasis diferensiasi, Metode yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah peserta didik MAN 2 Kota Sukabumi dengan jumlah 26 peserta didik. Teknik sampling yaitu purposive sampling berdasarkan dari kemampuan peserta didik dalam melihat suatu permasalahan dan berperan aktif dalam proses pembelajaran hal ini didasarkan atas rekomendasi dari guru mata pelajaran. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan nilai N-gain pada kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi pada kelompok atas, tengah dan bawah ini berada pada kategori sedang yaitu pada kelompok atas dengan nilai 0,64, kelompok tengah 0,37 dan kelompok bawah mendapat nilai 0,36. Oleh karena itu pembelajaran problem based learning (PBL) berbasis diferensiasi ini efektif untuk semua kelompok dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi.
