Abstract

This paper explores the Maulid Tradition within the socio-cultural context of urban society, focusing on the city of Semarang. The Maulid Tradition not only reflects religious spirituality but also has significant social and political implications. This research employs a field study method to analyze the Maulid celebrations across various mosque communities in Semarang. The findings indicate that these celebrations serve as a medium for strengthening community identity and social interaction, as well as creating a space for discussing relevant social issues. Furthermore, the Maulid Tradition plays a role in social mobilization and reinforces identity politics within a multicultural society. With the dynamics of tradition, transition, and innovation, communities are able to interpret the Maulid Tradition in a modern context, fostering collective awareness and cooperation, as well as promoting interfaith tolerance. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that, despite differing views on the Maulid celebrations, this tradition remains an important means to strengthen the identity and solidarity of the Muslim community in Semarang.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to understand the role of Islamic philanthropic institutions in channelling funds through youth community empowerment programs to foster a sense of harmony and tolerance, as well as the relationship between professionalism and the enhancement of Islamic values. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, combining literature research and case studies on the philanthropic institution Dompet Duafa. The results indicate the role of Dompet Duafa in realising programs that enhance harmonious and tolerant attitudes, as well as a positive relationship between professionalism and the promotion of Islamic values. This study focusses on youth community empowerment programs in specific regions and religions that can lead to the generalisation of findings. Future studies are expected to expand the participant community. The implications of this study offer valuable insights for philanthropic institutions and government policymakers in designing empowerment programs and initiatives. This research contributes to emphasising the role of professionalism and optimisation as catalysts for enhancing Islamic values through local wisdom in maintaining harmonious and tolerant attitudes among youth.

Abstract

The integration of Islamic values through local wisdom is a significant factor in maintaining social harmony and tolerance. This research aims to preserve the original culture of Indonesian society and examine the influence of integrating Islamic values and local wisdom through the Praonan tradition in Pasuruan City. This research is qualitative in nature, employing in-depth interviews with community leaders in conjunction with continuous observation and analysis to ensure the collection of valid data. The findings of this research indicate that the Praonan tradition is in alignment with Islamic values, which serve to facilitate the maintenance of social tolerance. This research contributes to the advancement of literacy and provides empirical evidence regarding the impact of applying local wisdom on the formation of social behavior. It is hoped that this research will facilitate a greater understanding of local culture and provide insight into the practice of social tolerance in Indonesia.

Abstract

The focus of this research is Nyadran tradition in Ngayung Lamongan, and the way how Islamic values can be integrated with local wisdom to create harmony and tolerance in a multicultural society. Over the years, Nyadran has become a symbol of solidarity and harmony between religious communities as a local cultural and religious ritual. This tradition does not only show the close relationship between humans and nature, but also shows the values upheld by Islam. This research explores the symbolic meaning of each Nyadran ritual and the way how Islam is implemented. This research uses qualitative research with ethnographic approach. The results of this research show that Nyadran plays an important role in strengthening brotherhood between religious communities, creating opportunities to maintain harmonization of various cultures and encouraging the values of tolerance. By incorporating Islamic values into local wisdom, such as Nyadran, it can help strengthening a harmonious and tolerant social order in society. This tradition does not only help maintaining local wisdom, but also helps spreading the message of tolerant religion

Abstract

Grebeg Suro is a centuries-old Javanese tradition celebrated on the first day of Muharram. This ritual-rich tradition holds significant spiritual and symbolic value. One particularly intriguing aspect of Grebeg Suro in Sumbermujur is the practice of planting a cow's head, a fascinating blend of local culture and religious beliefs. This research delves into the syncretic elements within Grebeg Suro rituals and explores the community's interpretation of the tradition. Through qualitative research methods, including observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, the study reveals that these rituals contribute to the harmony of the religious community in Sumbermujur. The involvement of people from diverse backgrounds demonstrates that religious diversity can positively impact community cohesion. The presence of syncretism fosters mutual appreciation rather than division. The research also examines the philosophical significance of the ritual practices, uncovering the interplay between local traditions and religious teachings. By understanding the syncretic nature of Grebeg Suro, we can appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the Javanese people and their ability to integrate diverse beliefs and practices into a harmonious whole.

Abstract

The collaboration between Islamic values and local wisdom in communal economic management has the potential to create strong synergy in improving welfare and maintaining social harmony. This study aims to analyze this collaboration within the context of the multicultural society in Balun Village, Turi, Lamongan, known as the "Village of Tolerance," where various religions coexist harmoniously. Using a Qualitative approach with a library study method, the research explores the role of Islamic values such as justice, balance, and mutual cooperation (gotong royong), as well as local wisdom, in fostering harmony and ensuring the sustainability of communal economics. The findings indicate that the integration of Islamic values with local practices strengthens social solidarity, enhances religious tolerance, and maintains economic balance and sustainability. This collaboration demonstrates that spiritual values and local traditions can serve as a critical foundation for building an inclusive and just economic system.

Abstract

Every year in the month of Muharram, the residents of Blitar District practice an old tradition known as baritan as a show of gratitude and a request for protection from any misfortunes. This tradition has changed over time in several ways, including ritual practices, the venues where these events are held, and the intentions why they are performed. This study was conducted out to explore this further. The study applies a Phenomenology study methodology alongside with a qualitative approach. The Siraman Village in the Kesamben District of the Blitar District serves as the research locus. Purposive sampling was implemented to select respondents, and documentation, interviews, and observation were used to collect data. The results of this research showed that the Baritan tradition has changed in terms of both its cultural content and its intended usage. These changes are meant to make sure that the Baritan tradition remains as a cultural practice that everyone in the community, accept, perform, and preserve. Especially the younger generation, whom often begins ignoring ancestral traditions. The cultural changes are intended to increase the community's commitment to appreciate diversity and enhance its beliefs of religiosity and patriotism.

Abstract

This research explores the revitalization of the Kebo-Keboan tradition in Alasmalang Village, Banyuwangi, in the digital era, focusing on its role in enhancing Islamic values and local wisdom for promoting harmony and tolerance. The aim is to analyze how digital platforms can preserve this cultural heritage while integrating Islamic teachings, such as gratitude and social unity, within the local community. The study uses a qualitative approach, involving direct observation, interviews, and content analysis of the tradition's representation in digital media. Results show that the digital promotion of Kebo-Keboan, through social media and online streaming, has increased participation and recognition globally, positively impacting the local economy by attracting tourists. Additionally, it strengthens Islamic values such as collective prayer and community solidarity, while preserving cultural identity. In conclusion, the digital transformation of Kebo-Keboan contributes to sustaining cultural heritage, fostering tolerance, and promoting economic growth, while engaging younger generations in cultural preservation.

Abstract

Generation Z, as digital natives, possess unique characteristics that demand a new approach to Islamic propagation. Creative 6.0 Dawah, which integrates cutting-edge digital technologies with Islamic values, emerges as a new local wisdom to reach and inspire this generation. This article explores the concept of Creative 6.0 Dawah as an effective strategy for preserving Islamic values among Generation Z. This research analyzes how digital technologies such as social media, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence can be integrated into Dawah to create engaging, interactive, and relevant content for Generation Z. Furthermore, the article explores how Creative 6.0 Dawah can become a new local wisdom that adapts to the culture and lifestyle of Generation Z while upholding the essence of Islamic teachings. This study utilizes a qualitative approach with a phenomenological perspective and existential analysis. The research findings indicate that Creative 6.0 Dawah holds significant great potential to become a new local wisdom in preserving Islamic values among Generation Z. This is evident through its ability to meet the basic and non-material needs of Generation Z. Creative 6.0 Dawah also provides Generation Z with a deeper understanding of finding meaning, identity, and purpose in life within the context of Islamic values. This is achieved by providing platforms that enable self-exploration, building an identity based on Islamic values, bridging generational gaps, fostering community and support, and offering guidance in defining life goals.

Abstract

This study examines the discourse of harmony of Pancasila Balun Lamongan Village as a strengthening of Islamic moderation values through local wisdom that focuses on its representation in online media. In the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, the influence of online media is becoming increasingly pronounced relative to print media. This research examines the values of Islamic moderation constructed and promoted through online media narratives and, secondly, the forms of local wisdom in Balun Village that play an essential role in maintaining interfaith harmony. This research analyses the lenses of cultural studies and discourse theory to investigate the role of online media in shaping discourses on tolerance, pluralism, and culture. The findings indicate that the discourse constructed seeks to influence public perceptions of Balun Village yet also functions as a hegemonic instrument that underscores the prevailing values of Islamic moderation. Thus, the discourse plays a role in influencing public perceptions and promoting Islamic moderation.
