Abstract

This study departs from the increasing urgency of strengthening religious moderation in multicultural Indonesian society. Local wisdom is considered one of the most contextual and effective approaches to grounding moderation values at the grassroots level. The purpose of this research is to describe the process of manganan implementation in Selogabus Village, Parengan District, Tuban Regency, and to analyze the religious moderation values embedded in this tradition. This research uses a qualitative ethnographic method, with data obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving village apparatus, Mbah Mudin as a religious-cultural leader, and local residents. The findings show that manganan is performed annually on Jumat Pahing after harvest season as an expression of gratitude to God and respect to ancestors. The tradition unites Muslim and non-Muslim residents through collaborative activities such as cleaning sacred places, praying together, and sharing meals. The study concludes that manganan functions not only as cultural heritage but also as a living medium of social practice that strengthens four indicators of religious moderation: national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence, and acceptance of local culture

Abstract

The Sedulur Sikep community is known as a community rooted in the teachings of Samin Surosentiko in Blora, Central Java, which upholds the values of honesty, simplicity, and peace. In their daily lives, Sedulur Sikep coexists with the Muslim community that applies the principles of Islamic law. The interaction between these two value systems creates an interesting dynamic in the social, legal, and cultural spheres, where the local traditions of Sedulur Sikep negotiate with religious norms without causing significant conflict. The purpose of this study is to understand how the dialectic process between law, religion, and culture takes place in the daily lives of the Sedulur Sikep community, as well as how these values can contribute to the development of social and global harmony. The research method used is empirical with a qualitative approach. Data was obtained through field observations, in-depth interviews with Sedulur Sikep leaders, religious leaders, and the surrounding community, as well as a study of local legal and cultural sources. The results of the study show that Sedulur Sikep is able to maintain their cultural identity while still opening space for dialogue with Sharia values and state law. In conclusion, the harmonious interaction between law and culture in this community reflects a model of tolerance and local wisdom that is relevant for strengthening global harmony in the era of modern multiculturalism

Abstract

The present inquiry examines Langgher Seppo, an ancient prayer house established in 1769 AD by Bujuk Ajjih Habullah, which predates the official founding of Bondowoso Regency. As the symbolic foundation of Pesantren Poncogati—the oldest Islamic boarding school in the Besuki Residency—this site carries a profound historical trajectory from its origins as a center for santri lowo to its current status as a cultural landmark. This article seeks to analyze its historical evolution, its functional consistency amidst global transformations, and its enduring relevance within modernized educational frameworks. Utilizing a qualitative field research design, the investigation gathered data through observation, interviews, and documentation, ensuring validity via source and method triangulation. The analytical framework follows Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, encompassing data reduction, display, and verification. The findings reveal that Langgher Seppo transcends its role as a mere relic, serving as a vital identity marker that synthesizes traditional spirituality with contemporary educational needs. The current analysis offers a tripartite theoretical contribution: first, the Trisula of Langgher Seppo as a heritage site for knowledge dissemination; second, the Trisula Function, illustrating its role in formal, non-formal, and informal education; and third, the Trisula Holistic, which frames the site as an educational medium fostering intellectual, spiritual, and moral integrity. Ultimately, Langgher Seppo remains a strategic catalyst in the development of Islamic education within the era of globalization

Abstract

The present inquiry investigates the Petik Laut ritual, a foundational tradition of local wisdom among the coastal communities of Probolinggo, East Java. This ceremony, which expresses gratitude for marine abundance and maritime safety, reflects a profound ecological and spiritual nexus between the community and the sea. This article seeks to explore the ecopedagogical values embedded in the ritual and its strategic relevance to ecological education and climate resilience. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach with an ethnographic method, the investigation gathered data through participant observation and in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and local fishermen. The findings reveal that Petik Laut serves as a vital informal educational medium, fostering ecological awareness through sea-cleaning initiatives and environmentally conscious Larung Sesaji (offering) practices. Furthermore, the ritual strengthens social solidarity and environmental ethics, while climate adaptation is manifested through the traditional scheduling of ceremonies based on seasonal weather patterns. The current analysis concludes that preserving Petik Laut provides a robust foundation for culture-based ecological education, offering a localized model for strengthening adaptive resilience against contemporary environmental challenge

Abstract

Local traditions play an important role in delivering religious messages that are contextual and inclusive in the global era. The Jaran Jenggo tradition, a regional performance accompanied by Islamic musical elements, is rich with da'wah values. This study aims to analyze the forms of da'wah communication that emerge in Jaran Jenggo performances, identify the Islamic values represented, and examine community perceptions of the da'wah messages conveyed. The research employs a descriptive ethnographic approach through field observation, interviews, and performance documentation. The results show that da'wah communication in the Jaran Jenggo tradition is manifested through symbolic movements, Islamic musical expressions, and social interactions between performers and audiences. Values of tawakal (trust in God) and mutual respect are represented in each scene. The community perceives that da'wah delivered through Jaran Jenggo is more easily accepted because it fosters familiarity with their own culture and creates harmony between religious and local values.

Abstract

Religious celebrations often serve as a space for reflection on social values. This study attempts to analyze the role of the Ancak Agung tradition in Jember, a communal ritual during the celebration of the Prophet's birthday, as a mechanism for strengthening tolerance and social cohesion amidst a heterogeneous society. This study views Ancak Akbar not only as a religious tradition and ritual, but also as a mediating arena for social interactions that transcend group boundaries. This research uses a qualitative case study approach, using triangulation techniques for data validation. Data analysis focuses on the patterns of interaction that occur and the community's interpretation of the symbolic meaning of Ancak Agung in the context of community. This research found that Ancak Agung functions as a "liminal space" that strips away primary identities. Ritually, this tradition creates a uniform spiritual purpose, manifested in the inclusive distribution of Gunungan Ancak, regardless of affiliation. Interactions are dominated by a spirit of mutual cooperation during preparation and sharing during distribution, effectively breaking down social barriers. Furthermore, the Ancak Agung Tradition has a significant social impact, strengthening solidarity and reducing prejudice between groups. This sharing ritual demonstrates that tolerance is a culturally institutionalized social practice. Ancak Agung serves as a model of local wisdom that is effective in managing diversity and maintaining social harmony in Jember.
