Abstract

In the second period of President Joko Widodo's government, Indonesia strengthened its cooperative relations with the United States and China through various agreements in the economy and other global issues. Indonesia's decision is influenced by many factors, both internal and external. According to Michael Brecher, in the process of foreign policy formulation, the mass media have a rol to convey and advocate for the general public regarding the government's stance towards certain issues. Through this research, the research team wanted to find out whether the mass media in Indonesia support Indonesia's foreign policy in responding to the rivalry between the United States and China? To answer this question, the research team used the foreign policy formulation system (Michael Brecher) and the framing analysis (Robert N. Entman). The study was carried out on 15 selected news stories from Kompas, The Jakarta Post, and Tempo. Based on the research conducted, the research team concludes that the news conveyed by the mass media in Indonesia shows their support for Indonesia's foreign policy, especially its neutral stance in the rivalry between the United States and China.

Abstract

Natural disasters tend to be vulnerable to attack the Fiji Islands as a Pacific country which is geographically composed of large and small islands. On the other hand, this condition also occurs in Indonesia, which is also an archipelago country that is prone to natural disasters. Seeing the shared conditions experienced by Fiji, Indonesia often provides humanitarian assistance to Fiji when it is hit by natural disasters. This research explores disaster diplomacy, in which we will analyze diplomatic efforts in a state relationship, through disaster-based assistance between Indonesia and Fiji. Further disaster diplomacy can be defined as how and why disaster-related activities can or cannot cause the emergence of cooperation between parties or can reduce the occurrence of conflict. The purpose of this study is to analyze how Indonesia's defense diplomacy with Fiji is through disaster relief. The results of this study explain how disaster relief can be a means of Indonesia's defense diplomacy to provide a positive image and gain support in Pacific countries. This can be seen from Fiji who wants to expand cooperation by signing an MoU on defense with Indonesia after the assistance provided by Indonesia in 2017. After the establishment of this cooperation in the defense sector, a positive attitude was also shown by Fiji by providing support to Indonesia at the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) meeting. In this study, the method used is literature review by collecting credible data from various sources such as journals, website articles, news, and even official documents from the government.

Abstract

Indonesia has credibility in carrying out its leadership role in the political-security sector in ASEAN. The political crisis that occurred in Myanmar due to a military coup in early 2021 raised concerns that it would have an impact on regional stability and ASEAN solidity. This reality makes researchers question what are the hopes and challenges of Indonesia in carrying out political-security leadership in ASEAN in the political crisis in Myanmar? This research was conducted with a qualitative design using secondary data from various literatures. This study finds that in responding to the crisis that occurred in Myanmar, Indonesia is faced with hopes for ideas and efforts that are always in helping to find solutions as part of the implementation of leadership in the security-politics field that comes from free-active foreign policy, transition experience democracy and capabilities. democracy. But on the other hand, Indonesia must also be faced with challenges that must be faced in the capacity to carry out political-security leadership originating from the ASEAN Way, rejection of the people of Myanmar and the inconsistency of human rights issues as well as the consolidation of domestic politics in responding to the crisis. Therefore, Indonesia still has to engage in constructive engagement through strengthening its democracy and human rights agenda and prioritizing non-megaphone diplomacy as part of efforts to help Myanmar out from the political crisis.

Abstract

The existence of the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit all regions of the world, including Indonesia, has had a significant impact on people's mobility. The economic impact is the most felt during this pandemic, especially the reduction in industrial and manufacturing activities, but the reduction in industrial activity is considered to have a good impact on environmental security because it can reduce the amount of gas emissions. This situation should be a good opportunity for Indonesia in its efforts to tackle climate change. However, during the implementation of COP-25, it failed to reach an agreement in article 6 of the Paris Agreement and could not describe concrete actions from climate action and Indonesia only managed to take points on the oceanic issue at the meeting, while Indonesia is a pioneer country for climate change action in the G countries. -20. This raises the question of the extent of Indonesia's diplomatic efforts and commitment to climate change. This study aims to see and analyse the direction of Indonesia's climate diplomacy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indonesian Pavilion was a form of Indonesian diplomacy during COP-26 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) is the first step towards economic liberalization in Southeast Asia. Through AFTA, ASEAN member countries reduce to abolish tariffs on certain products in regional trade schemes. AFTA is a facility for the government to regulate what products will be exported and imported in accordance with applicable tariff rules, it makes the community very dependent on the government and large companies for these products. As technology develops and Southeast Asia's population grows, a digital era is formed in the trade sector that promotes more dynamic e-commerce. E-commerce makes people not dependent on the government and more independent in regional markets. Because it covers each individual and MSME with the convenience of digitalized cross-border transactions. The existence of e-commerce caused the trend to change, from where initially the community was very dependent on the government to becoming independent of the products set by the government. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method with data collection techniques from literature studies from books, journals, official websites, and so on. The results of the study indicate that there has been a change in the trend of trade in ASEAN. This trend is due to the occurrence of digital transformation which provides opportunities for the MSME community to enter regional and global trade. Participation in regional trade in ASEAN is not only followed by state actors but also enlivened by non-state actors, especially all levels of ASEAN society who take advantage of developing e-commerce platforms. Abstract

Abstract

Capitalist economics is an ideology introduced by Adam Smith as an economic system controlled by the private sector and the government does not play too much of a role in trading activities. However, if we look at the bad impact of the Capitalist economic system, there is a social gap between rich and poor people. Because in this system the private sector has the right to seek maximum profits in any way and has the right to increase its business. while ordinary workers can only work and receive wages from the rich, so that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. So this research will discuss the impact of the implementation of the capitalist economic system on the welfare of society in the United States and China, and whether the progress of these two countries can improve the prosperity of their society. This research uses a qualitative method based on existing literature and information discussing the case. The results of this research are that the United States and China as developed countries and dominate international markets cannot avoid cases of social inequality among their communities. The intensity of the phenomenon of inequality of opinion and even gender continues to narrow, facilities such as education and health in cities and villages are very different, many children in villages experience delays in receiving education compared to children who live in urban areas.
