Abstract

Tuberculosis (TBC) remains a global health challenge, including in Indonesia. Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy (TPT) is a key strategy to prevent Latent TB Infection (LTBI) from progressing to active TB. However, the 2024 TPT program achievement in West Jakarta was only 17% against a 68% target. This study aimed to evaluate the program's success at Public health centers (PHC) using a qualitative evaluative and phenomenological approach and the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) model. Subjects included health office staff (1 person), PHC officers (16 people), and health cadres (8 people). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, document studies, observation, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD), and analyzed using content analysis with triangulation for validation. The results indicate that while the program follows Ministry of Health Regulation No. 67 of 2016, its implementation faces significant challenges. Limited availability of the 3HP drug regimen and low preference for the lengthy 6H regimen were major constraints. Healthcare workers faced high workloads, while community cadres had limited capacity for public education. Additional barriers included limited counseling time, negative public perceptions of TPT, and less effective cross-sectoral coordination. The overall achievement was only 17%, with large inter-area disparities (e.g., Palmerah at 67% vs. Grogol Petamburan at 12%). Low adherence to the 6H regimen further impacted outcomes. In conclusion, the success of the TPT program in West Jakarta is hindered by limited 3HP drug availability, low public understanding, and insufficient cross-sector coordination.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children in developing countries. In 2023, a total of 30,321 ARI cases were recorded among children aged 1–5 years at the Cipayung Subdistrict Health Center. The main problem in this research area is that there are families who have a smoking habit and this will have an impact on increasing cases of ARI in toddlers every year. This study aims to analyze the relationship between air humidity, housing density, and smoking habits and the incidence of ARI in toddlers in the area in 2024. A cross-sectional study design was used and conducted in November 2024. The population consisted of children aged 1–5 years, with a total sample of 106 respondents selected through cluster random sampling. Data analysis in this study used univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with Chi Square test, multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression test. The results showed that 57.5% of the toddlers experienced ARI, while 42.5% did not. The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between air humidity (p = 0.043) and smoking habits (p = 0.025) with ARI incidence. However, no significant relationship was found between housing density and ARI. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that smoking habits were the most dominant factor associated with ARI incidence. It can be concluded that air humidity and smoking habits are the primary factors influencing the occurrence of ARI in toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension remains a major global health problem with a steadily increasing prevalence. More than one billion adults are reported to suffer from hypertension worldwide, while in Indonesia the prevalence reaches 34.1% among individuals aged over 18 years. This condition not only causes physical complications but also has psychological and social consequences. From a psychosocial perspective, hypertensive patients are at risk of experiencing anxiety, emotional distress, and difficulties in accepting their health condition. Low self-acceptance often generates negative emotions that can reduce quality of life. In Banten Province, hypertension prevalence was reported at 29.47%, with South Tangerang City recording the highest number of cases. However, most studies have focused on biomedical aspects, while the psychosocial dimension, particularly the role of self-acceptance in determining quality of life, has been rarely explored. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design using purposive sampling involving 100 hypertensive patients at Rawa Buntu Primary Health Center, South Tangerang City. The research instruments included the Acceptance of Illness Scale (AIS) and the Mini-Questionnaire of Quality of Life in Hypertension (MINICHAL). Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. Results: showed that 95% of respondents reported high self-acceptance and 5% low; meanwhile, 93% had good quality of life and 7% poor. Statistical testing confirmed a significant association between self-acceptance and quality of life (p < 0.001). Conclusion: self-acceptance plays a crucial role in improving quality of life among hypertensive patients. Psychosocial support and health counseling are clinically recommended to help patients adapt to their condition and maintain well-being.

Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia. The utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) has potential as a preventive strategy by improving iron intake. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of community empowerment based on TOGA in preventing anemia among adolescent girls.A mixed-method approach was applied with total sampling of 30 adolescent girls aged 12–18 years. The intervention included health education, TOGA cultivation training, and preparation of TOGA-based foods and beverages. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired t-tests for knowledge scores and hemoglobin levels, and Chi-square tests for the proportion of mild anemia, with a significance level of α = 0.05. Qualitative data were analyzed through transcription, coding, and triangulation. Knowledge scores increased from 55% to 75% (p = 0.001), awareness of hemoglobin testing increased from 50% to 83% (p = 0.003), and willingness to consume TOGA-based products increased from 40% to 70% (p = 0.002). Mean hemoglobin levels increased from 11.3 g/dL to 12.0 g/dL (p = 0.021), with a decrease in mild anemia prevalence from 30% to 20% (p = 0.015). Qualitative analysis highlighted the importance of family support, health cadres, and a supportive environment in enhancing intervention success. The community empowerment model based on TOGA is effective in improving knowledge, healthy behaviors, and hemoglobin status among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Anemia among adolescent girls has long-term impacts on reproductive health and increases the risk of stunting in future generations. Although the government has provided school-based iron-folic acid (IFA) supplementation, anemia prevalence remains high and adherence to IFA intake is low. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge, nutritional status, and IFA adherence with anemia among adolescent girls, while also examining the paradoxical phenomenon in which higher levels of knowledge are accompanied by a persistently high prevalence of anemia. A cross-sectional design was conducted among 121 female students aged 15–18 years from two vocational high schools in East Jakarta. Data collected included hemoglobin levels, nutritional status, knowledge about anemia, and IFA adherence. Bivariate analysis was performed using Chi-square tests. The prevalence of anemia was 39.7%. Knowledge was significantly associated with anemia (p=0.007); however, adolescents with good knowledge had a higher proportion of anemia (54%) compared to those with poor knowledge (29.6%). Nutritional status and IFA adherence were not significantly associated. Compared with the 2023 Indonesia Health Survey, the prevalence in this study site was higher than the Jakarta average (±30%). Knowledge alone is insufficient to prevent anemia without behavioral changes and environmental support. School-based interventions should focus on behavioral modification, motivation, regular monitoring of IFA intake, and innovations in IFA taste and packaging to improve adolescent acceptability. These findings emphasize the need for cross-sectoral collaboration to reduce anemia prevalence among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Hospitals are workplaces with a high risk of severe consequences in the event of fire. This study aimed to evaluate the active fire protection system and life safety facilities at Hospital X Jakarta. The research employed a descriptive qualitative design using methodological triangulation through in-depth interviews with eight informants, direct observations, and document reviews. Data were analyzed by reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings were compared with the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works No. 26/PRT/M/2008 and the standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Of the two utility components analyzed, active fire protection systems and life safety facilities, with a total of 80 indicators, 93.44% complied with the standards, with a reliability rate of 92.5% (active fire protection systems 55% and life safety facilities 37.5%). However, several indicators remain suboptimal, particularly in equipment maintenance and evacuation route readiness. Hospitals should strengthen the maintenance of life safety facilities and conduct regular training to ensure optimal readiness of fire protection systems.
