Abstract

Adolescents were excessively exposed to social media use especially during the covid-19 pandemic period. Social media helped individuals of the age group to express emotions through social media, ranging from writing statuses, commenting, to engaging in mutual derogatory conversations. Therefore, teenagers need to acquire information and be trained in displaying polite behavior on social media. This aligns with the spiral effect theory, which explains that when someone experiences impoliteness from others, they tend to reciprocate with impoliteness towards others as well. This impolite behavior would be an antecedent of low happiness in the millennial generation. This community service aims to provide adolescents with skills for polite behaviour on social media. The method used is online psychoeducation, with data analysis using paired-sample t-tests to measure changes before and after the education is given. The participants consist of 175 teenagers from Indonesia and Malaysia. The results of the community service indicate that psychoeducation enhances effective happiness and can reduce the culture of impoliteness among adolescents on social media. As a result, adoloscents can implement the knowledge and skills provided to become wiser in using social media.

Abstract

Language stands out as the primary and most crucial tool for communication, essential in everyday life. It includes both spoken and written forms, such as words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and paragraphs, reflecting the diverse cultures of humanity. The study of linguistics is vital for language development, with phonology, morphology, semantics, and syntax each playing a significant role. Semantics, in particular, focuses on the meanings conveyed through speech and writing, which is fundamental for effective communication. Leech (1974) describes meaning as the concept or thought transferred from a speaker to a listener through language. Instagram, a popular social media platform, enhances communication through photos, videos, and captions. Users engage actively by leaving comments, which can be either supportive or critical. This study applies Leech's theory of the seven types of meaning—conceptual, connotative, social, affective, reflective, collocative, and thematic—to examine Instagram captions. Given Instagram's widespread use, especially among college students, its features enable concise message sharing, making it an effective platform for exchanging meanings. Captions add context, express emotions, and convey situational information using various moods and illocutionary acts. This descriptive qualitative study, titled "Analysis of Semantic Meanings Found in TED Talks Instagram Captions," explores these semantic elements, enhancing our understanding of language use on social media and its impact on digital communication.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explain the relationship between fiber food consumption patterns and physical activity with hemorrhoidal events. This study used a retrospective correlational analytic study design. The population in this study were patients with signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids in the General Surgery Specialist Poly of Petrokimia Gresik Hospital as many as 89 respondents, with sampling using purposive sampling and 72 respondents were obtained. Data analysis using the Chi-square test. Data collection using a fiber food consumption pattern questionnaire, a physical activity questionnaire, and the results of the diagnosis of the General Surgeon Specialist in the respondent's Medical Record. The results of statistical analysis with the Chi-square test with a significance level of alpha <0.05 obtained a p-value of 0.001 and 0.000, which means that there is a relationship between fiber food consumption patterns and physical activity with hemorrhoidal incidence. Insufficient fiber food consumption patterns cause feces to settle longer in the rectum so that the consistency of feces will become harder. This condition stimulates a straining reflex to appear during defecation, causing hemorrhoids. Meanwhile, a pattern of physical activity that is lacking causes continuous and repeated pressure on the lower part of the digestive tract, causing vascularization to be less than optimal and causing hemorrhoids. This study is expected to be a reference for hospitals to be able to add educational media and health promotion as an effort to prevent hemorrhoidal incidence in the community and prevent recurrence in patients who have undergone hemorrhoid treatment.
