Abstract

Gedi (Abelmoschus manihot (L.) Medik) and Java tea leaves (Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq.) are known to have antibacterial activity. The combination of these two plants in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus bacteria needs to be known to determine whether there is a synergistic effect from the combination. The synergistic effects can be demonstrated by the presence of greater antibacterial activity in the combination of both plants compared to single plant extracts. The extraction of both leaves was carried out with 96% ethanol and the maceration method. Antibacterial assay utilized the disc diffusion method with an extract concentration of 10,000 ppm and an extract ratio between two extracts was 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100. The positive control used was gentamicin, while the negative control used was dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The resulting inhibition zones of extract combinations were 8.21 mm, 9.49 mm, 7.86 mm, 8.03 mm, and 8.74 mm, respectively. The results of data analysis using One Way ANOVA showed a sig p> 0.05, which indicated that there was no significant difference between extract comparisons, both single and combined. Based on the inhibitory zones was obtained and the statistical analysis, the combination of 10.000 ppm 96% ethanol extract of Gedi and Java tea leaves had an antibacterial activity in the weak category and did not have a synergistic effect in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has many benefits. The fruit peel is rich in antioxidants which have the potential to improve the health and beauty of facial skin. Traditional use requires a long preparation time and formulation is needed to make preparations with more effective, practical and long-lasting storage. The facial mask formulation is a peel-off gel preparation that can moisturize the skin and increase the effect of the active ingredients. Quality assurance, namely safety, quality and benefits, is very necessary, which can be done by testing the physical stability of the preparation. The aim of this research is to obtain a formula made from the active ingredient Hylocereus polyrhizus fruit peel extract in the form of a peel-off gel facial mask and the best physical stability. HPMC was used as a carrier base by varying the concentration, namely 2%; 3% and 5%. Evaluation of the physical stability of the preparation was carried out, namely homogeneity, organoleptic, spreadability, viscosity, pH and dry time tests of 14 and 28 days. Storage is carried out at warm (30-40°C), room (15-30°C), and cold (2-8°C) temperatures. The best formula is 3% HPMC concentration with the best physical stability. Variations in storage temperature have an effect on physical organoleptics (color), viscosity and dispersion, but have no effect on physical homogeneity, drying time and pH. Cold temperatures (2-8°C) show the best stability because they can maintain physical stability.

Abstract

Type II Diabetes Mellitus (DMTII) patients who are not treated properly can experience decreased renal function. The use of oral hypoglycemic drugs (OHG) can cause a decrease in renal function. Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) can describe a decrease in renal function. The aim of this study was to determine the description of renal function in DMTII patients at the Tlogosari Kulon Health Center, Semarang City. This research is a descriptive observational study. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data was obtained from medical records of DMTII patients for the period September–December 2022. The inclusion criteria were patients with DMTII who received OHG therapy for at least one year, aged ≥45 years, had the most recent serum creatinine examination, with or without comorbidities. If the patient's data is incomplete or the patient has a history of renal problems, they will be excluded. Based on the research results, it was discovered that there were 55 DMTII patients, consisting of 39 patients (70.90%) women and 16 patients (29.10%) men. A total of 29 patients were aged between 60-69 years (52.73%). A total of 39 patients had comorbidities such as hypertension and/or dyslipidemia. A total of 76.36% received OHG combination therapy. Forty percent of patients experienced a decrease in GFR from mild-moderate to severe. The decrease in GFR is caused by the amount of OHG consumed and comorbid hypertension

Abstract

Red dragon fruit is one of the fruits that is often consumed by the Indonesian people because it is rich in properties and benefits. In addition to the fruit, red dragon fruit skin can also be used as a natural colorant in food and cosmetics. One of the beneficial compounds contained in the skin and flesh of red dragon fruit is antioxidant. This study aims to determine the differences in antioxidant activity and non-specific parameters of red dragon fruit skin and flesh extracts. The samples used are skin and flesh of red dragon fruit, in addition to comparing fresh samples and dried simplisia of each skin and flesh, dried simplisia samples from each skin and flesh. Method extraction method used in this study is reflux method with 70% ethanol solvent. Antioxidant activity was determined by IC50 value. From the IC50 calculation, it was found that red dragon fruit peel extract with fresh samples and dry simplisia included strong antioxidants while antioxidants in red dragon fruit flesh were lower with weak antioxidant activity. The difference in the use of simplisia also affects the antioxidant activity of the extract, extracts using dry simplisia have higher antioxidant activity than extracts using fresh samples. While in the test of non-specific parameters of the extract there is no significant effect.
