Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) in the world and nationally continues to increase. DM generally occurs in the age group >50 years; however, DM currently affects many young age groups. Adolescents affected by DM can continue to increase if they do not have good knowledge about DM and nutritional intake. This study aims to determine the level of DM knowledge and nutritional intake among high school adolescents in SMK X West Sidoarjo. This research method is descriptive-observational with prospective data collection. The research instrument used the DKQ-24 questionnaire and a valid nutritional intake questionnaire. The selected sample is in accordance with the research inclusion criteria, totaling 50 people The results showed that 76% did not know the causes of DM and diet rules; 78% people also did not know the importance of DM treatment to control blood sugar. Regarding knowledge of nutritional intake, most respondents (56%) did not know the calculation and value of BMI, 46% did not know the importance of fiber for controlling blood sugar, and 40% did not know the types of foods with a high glycemic index. The majority of respondents have good knowledge about diabetes (76%) and nutritional intake (70%). Chi-square analysis shows that there is a relationship between knowledge of DM and knowledge of nutritional intake, with a p value of 0.027. DM knowledge and nutritional intake are important to shape healthy lifestyle behaviors in an effort to prevent DM in adolescents

Abstract

Coffee is a plant that has benefits that can reduce stress when applied to aromatherapy candles. There are two most popular types of coffee: robusta coffee (Coffea canephora), which has a more intense taste and aroma, and arabica coffee (Coffea arabica), which has a lighter taste and aroma. This research aimed to compare the physical properties of robusta coffee (FR) and arabica coffee (FA) aromatherapy candle preparations. The formulation of aromatherapy candle preparations had a paraffin base (10%), stearin, and composition of coffee oil and coffee powder, 2% and 2.5% for formula 1 and 10% and 10% for formula 2. Organoleptically, the candle was solid, not cracked, and had the color brown to black. The aroma of formula 1 was weak, and the aroma of formula 2 was strong, typical of coffee aroma. The burning time for candles with an average weight of 8.52 grams for each group for formulas 1 and 2 FA was 11.45 minutes and 10.04 minutes, while FR was 11.57 minutes and 9.57 minutes. The melting point for aromatherapy candles was an average of 52–54 °C. This value meets the criteria for candle preparations based on SNI. Abstract

Kalimantan Island is an area with forests that can be developed for potential results, especially in plants with medicinal properties for health. The medicinal properties of plants are the role of the secondary metabolites contained in them. One of them is Litsea, a plant that comes from the Lauraceae family with 45 genera and more than 2,000 species. Plants from this genus are widely used by the community as traditional medicine, especially Litsea elliptica. One of the secondary metabolite contents of Litsea elliptica is flavonoids. The aim of this research was to determine the flavonoid content of Litsea elliptica leaf extract. The extraction process was carried out by maceration with 96% ethanol solvent. The results of the maceration extraction are then carried out by evaporation until a thick extract is obtained. The total flavonoid content was determined using the Colorimetric-Aluminum Chloride Method with a UV-Vis spectrophotometric instrument, resulting in a total flavonoid content of Litsea elliptica leaf extract of 391.01 mg ± 0.27 mg. The conclusion of this research is that Litsea elliptica leaf extract has a flavonoid content of 0.39%

Abstract

Starfruit wuluh, scientifically known as Averrhoa blimbi L., contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids and tannins, which function as antibacterial agents. The extract of starfruit wuluh leaves is formulated into a ointment for easy application. The selection of a suitable ointment base is crucial to achieve the formulation's effectiveness. Understanding the influence of using different bases, specifically oil-in-water emulsion base and water-soluble ointment base, on the stability of ointment containing ethanol extract of starfruit wuluh leaves is the aim of this research. Stability testing is conducted for two weeks at room temperature. Physicochemical tests include organoleptic evaluation, homogeneity, adhesiveness, pH, and spreading ability of the formulation. The results indicate that the variation in the type of base does not affect organoleptic aspects, homogeneity, and pH during storage but does impact adhesiveness and spreading ability of the ointment containing starfruit wuluh leaf extract during storage
