Abstract

This study was motivated by the low underhand passing skills of volleyball extracurricular students at SMA Negeri 5 Palopo, as evident from the unsatisfactory results of inter-school tournaments. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of paired training on students' underhand passing skills. This study used an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research population consisted of all 30 students participating in the volleyball extracurricular activity, with a sample of 15 students selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument used a passing skill test with a scoring system based on ball direction accuracy. The treatment consisted of a paired training program conducted over 16 sessions with a training frequency of three times per week. Data analysis techniques included descriptive analysis, normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing using a paired sample t-test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that paired practice had a significant effect on improving students' underhand passing skills. The average pretest score of 12.60 increased to 21.00 on the posttest, with an increase of 8.40 points. The hypothesis test results obtained a t-count value of 14.000 > t-table 2.145 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The discussion revealed that the effectiveness of paired practice was due to direct feedback, repeated technical corrections, and the creation of an interactive and collaborative learning environment. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant effect of paired practice on improving the underhand passing skills of students at SMA Negeri 5 Palopo. Paired practice is recommended as an alternative method in teaching basic volleyball skills at the high school level.

Abstract

A common problem faced by physical education (PJOK) teachers is the low endurance or fitness levels of their students. Some students easily become fatigued even after only light physical activity, hindering the learning process as teachers have difficulty moving on to the next topic or activity. This study aims to analyze, synthesize, and compare the effectiveness of circuit training and interval training methods on student fitness. This systematic review included eight selected studies that met the inclusion criteria based on the PICOS framework. A literature search was conducted in scientific databases using the keywords "circuit training," "interval training," and "fitness." The article selection process followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, while the literature review was structured using the SALSA framework. The research subjects came from various countries and involved elementary, junior high, and high school students. The synthesis results showed that both methods improve physical fitness, but interval training tends to be more effective in improving cardiovascular endurance, while circuit training is superior in developing overall muscle strength and endurance. Pedagogical implications in PJOK learning emphasize that teachers need to adjust the selection of training methods to the learning objectives, student characteristics, and class conditions, for example using interval training to increase stamina and circuit training for integrated physical strengthening, so that PJOK learning becomes more systematic, safe, varied, and oriented towards optimally improving student fitness.

Abstract

The mood of late adolescents (ages 17-18) tends to fluctuate due to academic demands, social relationships, and the transition to the workforce or college. Physical activity is viewed as a modifiable behavioral factor that can support adolescents’ emotional well-being; however, local empirical evidence from Brebes Regency remains limited. This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical activity and mood (positive affect and negative affect) among adolescents aged 17-18 years in Brebes Regency. The research method employed a survey design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of students at SMK Semesta Bumiayu, Brebes. A sample of 74 students was selected using convenience sampling. Physical activity was measured using the Indonesian version of the PAQ-A, while mood was measured using the Indonesian version of the PANAS-C. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test (SPSS 27). Results: There was a positive and significant relationship between physical activity and positive affect (ρ = 0.661; p = 0.008) as well as a negative and significant relationship between physical activity and negative affect (ρ = –0.486; p = 0.014). Physical activity explained 43.7% of the variance in positive affect and 23.6% of the variance in negative affect. These findings support physiological (neurotransmitters, sleep quality), psychological (self-efficacy, emotion regulation), and social (peer support) mechanisms linking physical activity to mood. The association was stronger for positive affect than for negative affect, consistent with previous research. Conclusion: Higher levels of physical activity are associated with better positive mood and lower negative mood among adolescents aged 17-18 years. This study supports the strengthening of physical activity programs in schools as a strategy to promote adolescents’ psychological well-being.
