Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ limited understanding of the basic concepts of futsal, such as passing, kicking, positioning, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This situation highlights the need to implement a more appropriate and effective learning model in physical education. This study aims to determine the effect and level of effectiveness of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) learning model on students’ understanding of futsal. The research method used was quantitative with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 17 third- and fourth-grade students in the futsal extracurricular program, selected using purposive sampling. The instrument used was the GPAI (Game Performance Assessment Instrument), which measures seven components of game understanding, while data analysis included the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired-sample t-test, N-Gain Score, and Cohen’s d effect size. The results showed an increase in the average score from 15.18 on the pretest to 24.71 on the posttest, a difference of 9.53 points. The paired-sample t-test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05), an average N-Gain Score of 0.58 (moderate category), and a Cohen’s d effect size of 2.37 (large category). The conclusion of this study is that the TGfU learning model has a significant effect and is highly effective in improving students’ understanding of futsal gameplay.

Abstract

Mu’at Kholilur Rohman is titled "The Influence of Audio-Visual Media on Improving Soccer Shooting Skills among Fourth-Grade Students at SD Negeri 1 Banyumanis." The study is motivated by the fact that shooting is a fundamental soccer technique. Preliminary observations at SD Negeri 1 Banyumanis revealed that the majority of fourth-grade students still struggled to execute the shooting technique correctly. It was anticipated that audio-visual media would help students better understand the movement stages involved in the shooting technique. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology. The research instruments used included observation sheets and student performance assessment sheets, while the data analysis technique employed was descriptive qualitative analysis. The results demonstrated an improvement in students' shooting skills from Cycle I to Cycle II. In Cycle I, out of 10 students, 6 (60%) were deemed to have achieved mastery according to Collaborator I, and 6 (60%) according to Collaborator II. In Cycle II, a significant improvement was observed, with 8 students (80%) achieving mastery according to Collaborator I and 8 students (80%) according to Collaborator II.

Abstract

Low cardiorespiratory endurance among adolescents is a concerning health issue, particularly among 12th-grade students who face high academic pressure and tend to engage in limited physical activity. This study aims to analyze the relationship between study intensity and physical activity and the cardiorespiratory endurance of 12th-grade students at SMAN 9 Mataram. The study used a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional design involving 178 students (mean age 17.2 years; 92 males, 86 females). Data were collected using a Likert-scale study intensity questionnaire (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.79), the IPAQ-SF, and the MFT. Data analysis employed Spearman’s Rho correlation test and multiple linear regression. The results showed that students had moderate study intensity (38.9 ± 6.3), moderate physical activity (910.0 ± 420.7 MET-min/week), and very low cardiorespiratory endurance (30.1 ± 7.8 ml/kg/min). There was no significant relationship between study intensity and cardiorespiratory endurance (r = -0.085; p = 0.257), but there was a positive and significant relationship between physical activity and cardiorespiratory endurance (r = 0.193; p = 0.010). The combined contribution of the two variables was 28.5% (R² = 0.285; F = 34.981; p < 0.001). These findings support school policies to provide more opportunities for physical activity and encourage students to remain physically active.

Abstract

The policy to reduce physical education classes from two to one hour per week in Wasit Province, Iraq, coupled with weak administrative support from school principals, poses a serious challenge for physical education teachers. However, there is currently no empirical evidence examining the role of school principals in facilitating physical education instruction following this policy. This study aims to uncover the reality of the principal’s role, identify differences in perceptions based on school accreditation, analyze the relationship between teachers’ years of service and their perceptions of support, and identify the dominant barriers faced by teachers. The study employs a quantitative approach using a descriptive-analytical and comparative-correlational survey design. A purposive sample of 115 physical education teachers from the city center of Kut, Wasit, was selected. The instrument consisted of a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire with content validity (CVI = 0.88) and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.91). Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, and Pearson’s correlation. The role of the principal was classified as low (mean = 2.33). There was a significant difference in perceptions between A-accredited and non-A-accredited schools (t = 2.87; p = 0.005). A moderate negative correlation was found between years of service and perceived support (r = -0.342; p < 0.001). The dominant barriers were: lack of external cooperation (1.72), lack of funding (1.76), and the use of physical education time for other activities (3.29). These findings are linked to transformational leadership theory and occupational socialization theory. School principals fell short on all four dimensions of transformational leadership. Senior teachers have more negative perceptions due to accumulated experience and burnout. Principal support for physical education at Wasit is very low. A policy review, minimum budget allocation, principal training, and revision of accreditation instruments are needed.

Abstract

The policy to reduce physical education class hours from two to one hour per week in Wasit Province, Iraq, has posed serious challenges for physical education teachers. However, there is no empirical evidence regarding the role of school principals in facilitating learning following this policy or the obstacles teachers face due to weak administrative support. This study aims to uncover the reality of the principal’s role in facilitating physical education learning, identify differences in perceptions based on school accreditation, analyze the relationship between teachers’ years of service and their perceptions of support, and identify the dominant obstacles faced by teachers. The research method employs a quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical and comparative-correlational survey design. A purposive sample of 115 physical education teachers from downtown Kut, Wasit, was selected. The instrument consisted of a questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale that had been tested for content validity (CVI = 0.88) and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.91). Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, and Pearson’s correlation. The role of the principal was classified as low (mean = 2.33). There was a significant difference in perceptions between A-accredited and non-A-accredited schools (t = 2.87; p = 0.005). A moderate negative correlation was found between length of service and perceived support (r = −0.342; p < 0.001). The dominant barriers were: lack of external cooperation (mean = 1.72), lack of budget (mean = 1.76), and the use of physical education class time for other activities (mean = 3.29). The findings are linked to transformational leadership theory (Bass & Avolio, 1994) and occupational socialization theory (Kern & Palmer, 2024). School principals fell short on all four dimensions of transformational leadership. Senior teachers held more negative perceptions due to accumulated experience and burnout. Principal support for physical education at Wasit was very low. A policy review, minimum budget allocation, principal training, and revision of accreditation instruments are needed.

Abstract

The problem addressed in this study is the low level of agility among beginner badminton players at Mataram State High School 9, as evidenced by their slow movements when reaching for the shuttlecock, slow positional shifts, and a physical training program that is not yet optimized. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of footwork and shuttle run training on improving the agility of beginner badminton players, compared to a control group that did not receive any special treatment. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 14 male students. The instrument used was the Illinois Agility Test (IAT) with a reliability coefficient (ICC) of 0.931. Training was conducted three times per week for six weeks, with intensity measured using the Borg RPE scale. The results showed that the experimental group experienced a decrease in average completion time of 2.43 seconds (a 12.24% improvement), while the control group experienced a decrease of only 0.36 seconds (1.81%). Hypothesis testing confirmed a significant effect in the experimental group, with a calculated t-value (10.43) > table t-value (2.447) and a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. The experimental group improved its agility category from “Regular” to “Excellent” based on IAT norms, whereas the control group remained in the “Regular” category. The conclusion of this study is that footwork and shuttle run exercises have a significant effect on improving the agility of beginner badminton players.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the role of supporting training in improving lead climbing performance at the 2025 National Student Sports Week (POMNAS). The identified problems included low aerobic and anaerobic endurance, suboptimal muscle strength, and high competitive anxiety among athletes. The study employed a descriptive qualitative design with participants consisting of one coach and three athletes from the Southwest Papua BAPOMI climbing team. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, document analysis of training programs, and observation of training sessions. Data analysis used a thematic approach with six phases. The findings showed that supporting training comprising physical conditioning, weight training, and mental training contributed significantly to athlete readiness. Physical conditioning improved endurance and fatigue resistance, weight training enhanced muscular strength and movement control, while mental training strengthened confidence, concentration, and emotional stability under competitive pressure. These three components were mutually reinforcing and integrated within a four-phase periodization program. The achievement of two silver medals and two bronze medals at POMNAS 2025 indicated the practical value of a structured supporting training program. In conclusion, supporting training should be regarded as an integral element of lead climbing preparation because it strengthens physical, technical, and psychological readiness for athletes to achieve optimal performance at national competitions.

Abstract

This study evaluated the rock climbing training program implemented by the Southwest Papua BAPOMI team in preparation for the 2025 National Student Sports Week (POMNAS). The main problem identified was the lack of comprehensive evaluation regarding the effectiveness of the training program, particularly in terms of resource adequacy and implementation quality. This research aimed to assess the program using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. The study employed a descriptive evaluation design involving 14 respondents consisting of athletes, coaches, team managers, and BAPOMI administrators. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings revealed that the context component achieved 78% (Good category), indicating appropriate program planning and objectives. However, the input component scored only 46% (Poor category), highlighting significant limitations in funding, facilities, infrastructure, and organizational support. The process and product components both achieved 100% (Very Good category), demonstrating consistent program implementation and positive outcomes, including two silver medals and two bronze medals at POMNAS 2025. In conclusion, the training program was generally effective, but resource constraints remain the primary challenge requiring immediate attention. Improvements in financial support and infrastructure are essential to sustain and enhance the program's positive achievements. The CIPP model proved effective in identifying specific program strengths and weaknesses.
