Abstract

This study was motivated by the low accuracy of badminton smashes among students in the Badminton Club at Muhammadiyah University of Palopo, where many smashes went out of bounds, missed the target, or were easily returned by opponents because the training provided emphasized hitting power over the accuracy of shuttlecock placement. The study aimed to determine the effect of target practice on the accuracy of badminton smashes among UM Palopo students. The method used was an experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of 20 students from the University of Muhammadiyah Palopo Badminton Club, selected using total sampling. The target practice intervention was conducted over 16 sessions using a badminton smash accuracy test as the measurement instrument, and the data were analyzed using a paired-sample t-test. The results showed that the mean pretest score of 36.80 increased to 43.85 on the posttest, representing an increase of 7.05 points (19.16%). The paired-sample t-test yielded a calculated t-value of 31.570 > the critical t-value of 2.085 and a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, with a Cohen’s d effect size of 2.44, classified as very large. In conclusion, targeted practice had a significant effect on improving the accuracy of badminton smashes among UM Palopo students and is recommended as an effective training method for enhancing smash skills.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the lack of systematically and standardized recorded data on sports injuries at the regional competition level, meaning that injury management efforts are not yet based on empirical evidence. The study aims to describe the injury profile of Boyolali Regency 7-a-side rugby athletes during the 2025 PORPROV Qualifying Round, covering the location, type, mechanism, and severity of injuries, as well as athlete characteristics. The research method employed a descriptive quantitative approach using an injury surveillance system. The population consisted of all Rugby 7’s athletes in Boyolali Regency (n=12), with total sampling used. Data collection involved a sports injury questionnaire based on international surveillance guidelines, direct observation, documentation, and recording of athletes’ playing time. Data analysis used descriptive statistics. The results showed an injury incidence rate of 187.5 per 1,000 player-hours. The majority of injuries resulted from direct contact (100%), with the most common mechanisms being tackles received (44.4%) and tackles made (33.3%). The most common injury sites were the upper extremities and the head (20% each); the most common injury types were abrasions (40%) and muscle contusions (30%); and the majority of injuries were classified as mild (88.9% without missed time). The conclusion of this study is that district-level Rugby 7’s carries a high risk of injury, thus requiring a planned, surveillance-based injury prevention strategy that focuses on improving safe tackling techniques and strengthening the upper-body supporting muscles.

Abstract

The low level of physical fitness among Indonesian children with 77.12% falling into the “inadequate” category calls for strengthening physical literacy from an early age, particularly among early-grade students (Phase A) in rural areas, which have been understudied. This study aims to describe the physical literacy profiles of Phase A students in elementary school, analyze differences in achievement by gender, and identify achievement levels in each domain. Using a quantitative approach with a descriptive design, the study involved the entire population of first- and second-grade students at SDN 2 Sukakarya and SDN 2 Sukalaksana, Samarang Subdistrict, Garut Regency, with a total sample of 206 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using the adapted Physical Literacy in Children Questionnaire (PL-C Quest) and analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentages). The results showed that the majority of students (54%) fell into the moderate category, 43% into the high category, and 3% into the low category, with no significant difference between boys and girls (t=0.847; p>0.05). Achievement by domain showed that the social domain was the highest (88%), followed by the psychological (80.1%), cognitive (78.4%), and physical (67%), which was the lowest. The study concluded that Phase A students already possess a basic foundation in physical literacy; however, the development of the physical domain still needs to be encouraged through a fun, child-centered learning approach.

Abstract

Table tennis requires a comprehensive mastery of basic techniques, with the backhand stroke often considered more complex than the forehand. A preliminary study of 55 college students showed that backhand proficiency (58.2%) was lower than that of the forehand (78.2%), with difficulties in accuracy, coordination, body position, and consistency. This systematic literature review (SLR) aims to identify, analyze, and evaluate effective training models for improving table tennis backhand skills among college students. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a literature search was conducted in the Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Scopus databases for articles published between January 2020 and March 2026, yielding 18 articles from 847 identified records. The review identified six effective training models: (1) multi-ball drills, (2) partner drills, (3) goal-based training, (4) external attention-based training, (5) digital technology-based training, and (6) sports education models. The principle of analogy from other sports, such as volleyball and futsal, also supports the implementation of structured training and target-based patterns. A combined training model that integrates technical variations, immediate feedback, and structured repetition has been shown to provide optimal results for students. These findings provide evidence-based guidance for designing backhand training programs in higher education settings.

Abstract

Students’ low levels of physical fitness, particularly their vo₂max capacity, are a major problem in physical education classes. Monotonous instruction that fails to actively engage students is believed to be the primary cause. This study aims to determine the effect of the play-based and command-based teaching methods on improving students’ vo₂max, as well as to compare the effectiveness of these two methods. The study employed a quantitative approach using a two-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The sample consisted of 50 students divided into two groups, with 25 students each assigned to the play-based and command-based approaches. vo₂max was measured using the multistage fitness test (bleep test). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test, paired-sample t-test, independent-sample t-test, and Cohen’s d effect size. The results showed that the play-based approach had a significant effect on improving vo₂max with a significance value of 0.000 and an average increase of 2.092 mL/kg/minute, while the command-based approach showed no significant effect (p = 0.513). There was a significant difference in effect between the two methods, with the play-based approach being more effective (Cohen’s d = 4.174). In conclusion, the play-based approach is recommended as an effective Physical Education learning strategy to improve students’ physical fitness.

Abstract

Tombiano FC soccer players experienced physiological fatigue following high-intensity training, characterized by an increased heart rate and prolonged recovery time, while the recovery methods used were still passive in nature and lacked specific interventions. This study aimed to determine the effect of Cold Water Immersion (CWI) on reducing the recovery heart rate in Tombiano FC soccer players. The method used was a quantitative experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 players selected using total sampling. The treatment involved immersing the lower body in water at a temperature of 10–15°C for 10–15 minutes. Recovery heart rate measurements were taken before and after the treatment using the palpation technique. Data analysis employed a paired-sample t-test following a normality test. The results showed that the average recovery heart rate without CWI treatment was 120.5 bpm, whereas after treatment it decreased to 104.9 bpm, representing an average decrease of 15.6 bpm. The statistical test yielded a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), meaning H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. In conclusion, CWI has a significant effect on reducing the recovery heart rate in Tombiano FC players; therefore, this method is effective and recommended as a cost-effective and easily applicable physiological recovery strategy.

Abstract

The teaching of heading techniques in sepak takraw at the university level still faces challenges in the form of monotonous methods, a lack of exercise variety, and the absence of a standardized and proven learning model. This study aims to develop an innovative, structured, and practical heading learning model for Physical Education and Sports Science (PJKR) students at Tadulako University. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) based on the Borg and Gall model. The research subjects consisted of 1 learning expert, 2 sepak takraw coaching experts, and Physical Education and Sports Science (PJKR) students from the class of 2023, who participated in small-group (n=10) and large-group (n=17) pilot tests. The instrument, a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire, was analyzed using descriptive percentage analysis. The results showed a suitability percentage of 95% (highly suitable) from the learning expert, 68% (suitable) from coach 1, 72% (suitable) from coach 2, 72% (suitable) from the small-group pilot test, and 78% (suitable) from the large-group pilot test. The overall average feasibility of the product reached 77%, falling into the “feasible for use” category. The resulting model consists of six variations of progressive heading drills ranging from low to high difficulty levels. In conclusion, this heading learning model is deemed feasible and can be used as a learning variation to enhance students’ motivation and heading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to identify, evaluate, and synthesize empirical evidence regarding the effects of community-based physical activity interventions on psychological well-being. This study employed a systematic literature review method in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Articles were searched in the Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases from 2015 to 2026 using keywords related to group exercise, community exercise, and mental health. Article quality was assessed using the JBI Checklist and CASP instruments. Of the 57 articles identified, 7 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed further. The review results indicate that community-based physical activity interventions consistently have a positive impact on psychological well-being, including improvements in quality of life, self-efficacy, and emotional regulation, as well as reductions in stress and negative mental health symptoms. These benefits arise through three mechanisms: physiological (improved fitness and neurobiological regulation), psychological (increased self-confidence and coping skills), and social (community support and reduced loneliness). Key factors contributing to the program’s success include social interaction, community support, flexibility in exercise intensity, cultural adaptation, program sustainability, and the role of professional facilitators. These findings confirm that community-based physical activity is not only beneficial for physical health but also effective in improving overall psychological well-being.
