Abstract

Attention which is achieved through the process of adapting to new conditions and information can be an issue for new students. Previous studies have suggested that listening to Quran recitation (murattal) can positively influence attention. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of listening to Quran recitation on students’ attention. The research was conducted by designing a quasi-experiment with a non-randomized pre-test and post-test control groups. Besides this, the groups were divided into two, the experimental group and the control group. The data were collected from 20 new students of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University as a sample, who met the criteria of having healthy hearing conditions and obtained GPA > 3.50. The measuring instrument utilized in the study was the number range test of Weschler Intelligence Scale, while the treatment used was listening to Quran recitation. Then, the data was analyzed using a paired t-test to examine the difference in attention between the experimental group and the control group. The results showed that there was a difference in the average attention score between the experimental group of 11.70, and the control group of 8.80 with a significance level of 0.026 (P < 0,05). Thus, the findings of the study indicate that there is a significant difference in attention between the experimental group and the control group after listening to Quran recitation.

Abstract

Parenting in the household has an important role in shaping children's lives at a later stage. Parenting is a way of how parents educate, care for and love children. Parenting has several criteria that are distinguished from the child's own behavior. This study aims to relate the Hadith about fair parenting with a humanistic approach, especially in the context of Abu Dawud's narration index number 3544. The formulation of the problem involves an evaluation of the quality and quantity of the hadith on the recommendation of fair behavior, an in-depth study of the recommendation of fair behavior in the hadith, and an analysis of Abu Dawud's hadith number 3544 within the framework of the humanistic theory initiated by Abraham Maslow. The research method used is a qualitative method by applying the study of ma'anil hadith which is linked to Abraham Maslow's humanistic theory. The main sources of the research include the book of Sunan Abu Dawud, commentaries, the Qur'an, and related journals. The results show that firstly, Abu Dawud's hadith has a saheeh degree. Second, the interpretation of the hadith highlights the Prophet's recommendation for parents to be fair in parenting, especially between boys and girls. Third, the analysis of the hadith recommendation for fair behavior with Abraham Maslow's humanistic theory highlights the five hierarchies of human needs that support life from birth. The implementation of fair parenting between children is expected to prevent the emergence of social jealousy among them.

Abstract

Marriage in Islam aims to create a harmonious family rooted in the principles of sakinah (tranquility), mawaddah (love), and rahmah (compassion). However, a limited understanding of spousal rights and obligations—especially in Simpang Kiri Subdistrict, Subulussalam City, Aceh—often leads to conflicts that can culminate in divorce. This study analyzes the local community’s perceptions and practices regarding marital rights and obligations as outlined in Surah Al-Nisa’, verse 34, while also evaluating the impact of local customs on household dynamics. Employing a qualitative field research approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and observations with community members, religious leaders, and officials from the local Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). The findings indicate that the community’s understanding of spousal rights and obligations primarily focuses on tangible aspects such as financial support and mahr (dowry), often overlooking the essential Islamic values of justice and compassion. Additionally, local customs significantly shape marital practices, frequently resulting in inconsistencies with Islamic principles. This study recommends enhancing religious education and fostering collaboration between religious institutions and community leaders to deepen the understanding of marital roles in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Abstract

The principle of ta'awun (mutual assistance) is a fundamental Islamic value that promotes solidarity and shared responsibility. Its practical application in contemporary, culturally diverse societies often encounters significant challenges. This study investigates how the residents of Ie Meulee Village, Sukajaya Subdistrict, Sabang City, practiced ta'awun in responding to Rohingya refugees stranded in the area during December 2023. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study collected data through observations, interviews with 14 informants—including village officials, religious leaders, community members, and refugees—and document analysis. The findings reveal varied interpretations and implementations of ta'awun, shaped by factors such as religious education, the social environment, and economic constraints. While residents with strong religious knowledge exhibited proactive assistance, others provided help spontaneously or hesitated due to existing prejudices. This study underscores the importance of inclusive religious education, community-based social programs, and local policies to foster cross-cultural solidarity, ensuring the sustainable application of ta'awun values in multiethnic societies.

Abstract

Qur’anic interpretation has often been overlooked as a crucial element in the development of Islamic law, despite its undeniable connection to the juridical aspects of fiqh and qanun. This article examines the role of Qur’anic interpretation in deriving Islamic legal rulings, the prerequisites for producing valid fiqh-based interpretations, and its primary sources. This qualitative research employs documentation as its data collection technique, supported by a linguistic approach. The findings reveal three main points. First, interpretation (tafsir) serves as an idhah (explainer), bayan (clarifier), and kasyf (explorer) of legal verses. Second, valid interpretations require linguistic foundations, intertextual correlations (munasabat), historical contexts such as asbab al-nuzul, relevance to contemporary issues (fiqh al-waqi’), and a balanced understanding of illat (causal reasoning) and hikmah (wisdom). Furthermore, interpretation must adhere to appropriate frameworks and methodologies. Third, the sources of Qur’anic interpretation, in order of priority, include tafsir bi al-Qur'an, al-sunnah, the companions (sahabah), and the People of the Book, collectively termed tafsir bi al-ma’tsur. Meanwhile, interpretive efforts based on reasoning (tafsir al-ra’y), when aligned with scientific principles, are also considered valid.

Abstract

This article examines Semitic Rhetorical Analysis (SRA), Hermeneutics, and Biblical Criticism as applied methodologies for interpreting the Qur'an. Using a qualitative, library-based research approach, the study investigates how each method engages in textual analysis, highlighting their distinctive approaches and areas of intersection. The findings indicate that SRA, with its emphasis on symmetrical patterns and cohesive structures, aligns closely with the Qur'an’s rhetorical framework, effectively revealing its intricate composition, as seen in Surah Al-Fajr. In contrast, Hermeneutics and Biblical Criticism- while effective for analyzing Biblical texts- face theological and methodological limitations when applied to the Qur'an due to fundamental differences in the formation and theological contexts of the sacred texts. The study advocates for an integrative methodology that respects the distinct nature of the Qur'anic text while fostering cross-methodological dialogue. This research contributes to the field of religious studies by promoting interfaith engagement and deepening scholarly understanding of the Qur'an within a rigorous comparative framework.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the accessibility and effectiveness of Qur'anic Braille instruction for blind students at SDLB Bukesra Ulee Kareng, Banda Aceh. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The findings reveal that the school has developed an effective inclusive learning system by providing Braille Qur'ans and implementing various teaching methods such as A-to-Z, Synthetic Structural Analysis (SAS), left-code technique, and talaqqi. Teachers also offer individualized support to address learning challenges. Students generally master reading and writing the Qur'an in Braille within an average of three months and have achieved recognition in local Braille Qur'an reading competitions. Nevertheless, the study identifies several challenges, including limited availability of Braille Qur'ans in the dormitory, the absence of the “Nun Wiqayah” symbol in Braille scripts, and a shortage of trained professionals. These findings highlight the need for enhanced resources and institutional support to optimize Qur'anic learning for blind students.

Abstract

This research comprehensively examines the book Masabih al-Sunnah, focusing on its methodology, al-Baghawi's distinctive and controversial terminologies, and and the implications for the study of Contemporary Hadith. The study employs a descriptive-analytical method to outline the book’s fundamental structure and critically elaborate on its content. The approach utilized is a book analysis study (bahth al-kutub), which analyze both the structure and methodology employed by the author. Based on the composition of the book, it can be concluded that, al-Baghawi tends to use the al-jawami' method, which invilve omitting the sanad of the hadiths, except for the names of companions when necessary. In this book, the term al-Sihhah refers to all the hadiths narrated by Bukhari and Muslim in the Sahihayn. While the term al-Hisan refers to the hadiths narrated by Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, and other imam of hadith. Al-Baghawi’s work includes 28 chapters, 277 subchapters, and a total of 4.931 hadiths, of which 2.504 are classified as ṣaḥīḥ and 2.432 as ḥasan.
