Abstract

This paper is organized to find faith in uncertainty through theological reflection based on the book of Habakkuk. Habakkuk is a prophet of God in the Old Testament who experienced a difficult time amid King Jehoiakim's reign. The difficulties of life and injustice that occurred during the time of King Jehoiakim made the prophet Habakkuk constantly pray and put his faith in God. This steadfastness of faith needs to be emulated by believers. The modern age in which believers live often brings various challenges, such as the relativism of absolute truth and identity crisis. As a believer living in modern times, I believe that imitating Habakkuk can be done to achieve faith resilience. By having faith resilience as a result of imitating Habakkuk, believers can get through difficult times through their faith. Believers' faith will be trained amid life's uncertainties. Through descriptive qualitative research methods, the author tries to narrate the discovery of faith amid uncertain conditions through theological reflection based on the book of Habakkuk. The author states that the theological reflection of the book of Habakkuk brings believers to have faith that even amid uncertainty, God still answers prayer.

Abstract

This article examines the biblical and Philokalian approach to renewing and protecting the nous or intellect (Romans 12:2; 1 Corinthians 2:17), proposing that prayer and nepsis (vigilance) are essential strategies for mitigating the influence of logismoi and passions. Analysis reveals that these practices are vital in cultivating authentic Christian spirituality. The Philokalia invites a reevaluation of spiritual perspectives, offering a novel framework that integrates an investigative tool, therapeutic technique, and theoretical insights into the human mind. This study highlights how these ancient practices can be adapted to modern psychotherapeutic interventions, providing a transformative approach to revitalizing our nous faculties. The findings underscore the relevance of the Philokalia in contemporary spiritual and psychological contexts, introducing innovative methods for addressing spiritual and emotional challenges in today's world. This article aims to bridge ancient spiritual wisdom with contemporary therapeutic practices, offering new insights and practical applications for enhancing mental and spiritual well-being.

Abstract

A child's success or achievement is influenced by various factorssupporting and inhibiting factors. One of the supporting factors is correct upbringing from parents, although this factor is not the only one, it has a big influence on a child's success. This article specifically aims to provide an understanding and application of the role of parents in educating children based on the book of Proverbs 29:15,17. In fact, parents have a very important role in educating a child's personality because parents are the most important educators for a child's life, especially in getting to know God, and developing the child's abilities and intelligence. By using the exegesis method, namely looking for the original meaning of the book of Proverbs 29:15.27, it can be concluded that the role of parents in educating children is to reprimand, not let it go, give advice, discipline and give warnings.

Abstract

Conversations about the meaning of friend have a variety of empirically and theoretically based definitions. In the text of John 15:9-17, Jesus presents the context of the identity of friends - φίλος, which is associated with the principle of mutual love - ἀγαπάω. This principle gives room for faith to realize love in pluralistic life. Being a “friend” is a new identity revealed by Jesus, contrasting with the identity of “servant”. The meaning of friend is different from what philosophers and those who have experienced it have expressed. Jesus placed the identity of a friend beyond what is commonly discussed. The new identity denies acts of hostility, hatred and violence. To achieve this goal, an exegetical approach is taken to the relevant texts, tracing various sources and presenting different interpretations, analyzing them to formulate their meaning. The meaning of the word “philos” is very diverse, and is associated with the attitude of “love”. Even in this context, the meaning also extends to the enemies as recommended by God, and based on God's mercy. This is then associated with Jesus who loves sinful man. He also gave a new identity of 'friend. The diversity of meanings of friend and love indicates that in formulating the theology of friends, it creates a dynamic hermeneutical principle. In this effort, the research presents a novelty in the formulation of the theology of companions that emphasizes three things: First, the context of the incarnation connected to redemption as a form of God's love for believers (vv. 9-13). Second, the context of Jesus' election of His people (v. 16). Third, the context of the coherence of love for God that is manifested in the relationship with others (vv. 12, 17). In addition, this study contributes to the attitude of loving one another so that it has a positive impact on pluralistic life, living in peace, love, and competing with each other in doing good.

Abstract

The book of James is one of the epistles of Am in the New Testament. There are parallels in the narrative context and purpose told in James 5:14 with Mark 6:13. Based on the results of the literature study, it was found that the research conducted specifically in the context of James 5:14 focused more on the thematic of prayer and the application of oil, without looking at the parallels and hermeneutic analysis. The juxtaposition of these two verses is an interesting thing that this article examines, using a qualitative method based on a hermeneutic exegesis approach, as an implementation in doing ministry. This article finds that there are three important standards in ministry, namely, first, choose the right method of ministry based on biblical references in accordance with the example of Jesus. James recommend this method to the elders of the church, because this is a legacy of ministry that he learned from the example of Jesus; second, the ministry of prayer and the application of oil is only a method that is applied contextually, but ministers must direct the main focus of healing only to Jesus, to avoid the cult of individuals who serve and to the anointing oil; third, the service method of prayer and the application of oil must be carried out by ministers who are specialized to do so, to be ethical and responsible. This article can be a reference for ministers and church leaders, who are engaged in the service of God's people.

Abstract

The essence of truth in the general conception is always depends on the value of objectivity, coherence, or utility. Specifically in Christianity, truth – which is called Alētheia – is not tied to these values, but is found in Jesus Christ himself. An exegetical approach to the text of the Gospel of John 8:31-32 describes the concept of the liberating Alētheia, namely the condition that is equated with knowing the truth and becoming a disciple of Jesus when someone remains in Jesus and His word. By placing the issue of sin as a crucial context, this liberating concept of truth also triggers a rethinking of the idea of cosmic Christology, especially that proposed by Joas Adiprasetya, who proposed the possibility of actualizing the Alētheia in non-Christian religions.

Abstract

The rise of radicalism and violence in the name of religion in the digital era has caused suffering and fear, even threatening peaceful religious life. The church, as a community of believers, faces a great challenge in faithfully fulfilling its witness role amidst trials of faith. This research is grounded in the Christian belief that God remains sovereign in protecting and restoring believers in the context of suffering for their faith. The purpose of this study is to examine Revelation 11:1–13 as a biblical-theological foundation that affirms suffering is not a failure of faith, but part of the faithfulness in carrying out the mission of witness in the midst of life’s conflicts. The research method used is qualitative with a biblical interpretation approach through a structural exegesis model. The analysis shows that the two witnesses in Revelation 11 symbolize the church, which is called to proclaim God's truth, even at the risk of suffering. The conclusion affirms that God is not only sovereign eschatologically but also accompanies and restores His people. The novelty of this study lies in the contextual emphasis of Revelation 11:1–13 in responding to the crisis of religious violence and the affirmation that the church is called to be a faithful witness of Christ without retaliating violence with violence.
