Abstract

Problem-solving skills through the STEM approach are currently also being examined in relation to gender differences. This study aims to describe students’ problem-solving skills and compare them based on gender in the topic of thermodynamics using the STEM approach. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method involving 86 grade 11 science students, consisting of 51 female and 35 male students. The problem-solving indicators used include Useful Description, Physics Approach, Specific Application of Physics, Mathematical Procedure, and Logical Progression. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and comparative tests. The results showed that, in general, students’ problem-solving abilities were in the “good” category. The comparative analysis revealed that female students outperformed male students in the Useful Description and Logical Progression indicators, while male students showed higher performance in Specific Application of Physics and Mathematical Procedure. No significant difference was found between the two groups in the Physics Approach indicator. Overall, the total score of students’ problem-solving skills indicated no significant difference between female and male students. These findings suggest that the STEM approach fosters equitable opportunities for both genders to develop physics problem-solving skills, despite differences in specific indicator strengths. Therefore, STEM-based learning should be designed contextually and inclusively to accommodate students’ diverse potentials and cognitive styles in a balanced manner.

Abstract

The study aims to describe the feasibility of electronic digital comic-based modules through Canva application for class X students of Noemuti State High School . This research was conducted at Noemuti State High School in August 2024. This research design refers to the research and Development (R & D) model of Thiagarajan, Semmel and Semmel consisting of four stages, namely: (1) defining (define), (2) planning (design) (3) development (development) in the form of device validation and e-module media as well as product trials on biology subject teachers and students and (4) dissemination (disseminate). The data obtained in this development research are qualitative data and quantitative data. Quantitative descriptive data analysis techniques were used to analyse data obtained from media expert validation sheets, material expert validation sheets, teacher assessment data and student assessment data obtained from questionnaires as respondents, which contained the feasibility of comic-based E-modules through the Canva application. The results of validation from material experts and media experts at stage I, namely material experts 76.25% and the results of validation from media experts are 78.94% and meet the feasible criteria. The results of the validation of material experts and media experts in stage II, 95.00% material experts and stage II media experts, 90.53%, meet the criteria of very valid or very feasible to be tested. The results of the Biology teacher assessment trial with a percentage of 97.00% meet the eligibility criteria very feasible. The results of the limited trial were 85.20%, while the small group trial was 88% with very feasible feasibility criteria. Thus it is stated that the digital comic-based e-module developed is suitable for use as teaching material for students.

Abstract

This study aims at documenting and analyzing the traditional number system of the Mee tribe in Papua within an ethnomathematics framework. Papua is a cultural well with the numeral system reflecting the values of the culture and the social structure of the society. Such integration of culturally based mathematical concepts with the help of the ethnometematic approach might be theoretically expected to enhance mathematical learning, relevant from a cultural point of view. Qualitative research with participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and artifact analysis was carried out in Sentani-Sereh. From the research, it can be said that the uniqueness of the combination between single and decimal numbers can indicate the structure of the Mee Tribe culture. This system shows a possibility for implementation in culture-based learning. This documentation leans more towards cultural preservation efforts, enriching the literature of ethno-mathematics and recognizing traditional knowledge, which is part of cultural heritage and needs to be preserved in the wave of modernization

Abstract

In the digital era, character education—particularly the value of honesty—is essential to prevent the misuse of knowledge for unethical purposes. This study explores students’ honesty within Integrated Science learning at SMP Negeri 15 Tanjungpinang, focusing on how honest behavior manifests in the learning process and the factors influencing students’ honesty or dishonesty. Employing a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, the study collected quantitative data through questionnaires from 105 students selected via stratified random sampling, and qualitative data through interviews with selected students based on their honesty levels. The results showed that students’ overall honesty was categorized as good, with an average percentage score of 75.40%. The highest-rated indicator was “dislike lying,” while the lowest was “reporting things truthfully.” However, 42% of students fell into the “fairly honest” or “dishonest” categories, indicating a need for ongoing character development. Qualitative findings revealed three main reasons for dishonest behavior: peer influence, lack of fear of sanctions, and pressure to achieve good grades. These findings suggest that students' dishonest actions are shaped by social, psychological, and academic factors. The study concludes that promoting honesty requires a holistic strategy involving curriculum integration, teacher role modeling, consistent disciplinary measures, and support from families. This research implies that effective character education must engage all stakeholders in creating an ethical school culture and supportive learning environment

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of knowing and analyzing the relationship between students' perceptions regarding the role of peers, teacher teaching style, and learning motivation towards students' science learning outcomes using the correlation method. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires as a research instrument. This study is a quantitative study using path analysis. The data analysis technique in this study was carried out with the help of the Smart PLS version 4.0 application. The population in this study were 180 students in 8 grade at one of the State Secondary Schools in Pasuruan City, with a random sampling technique, so that a sample of 124 students was obtained. Based on the analysis of the findings, it shows that students' perceptions of the role of peers do not have a significant effect on learning outcomes, while students' perceptions of teacher teaching styles and learning motivation have a significant effect on learning outcomes. The results of this study provide important implications in the world of education, especially related to factors that influence student learning outcomes. Further research is expected to identify other factors that can also influence student learning outcomes

Abstract

This research utilizes a frequency generator application on smartphones with the aim of enhancing students' understanding of the concept of sound resonance in closed organ pipes. The study employs a pretest-posttest design with a control group that was not selected randomly. The method used is non-probabilistic sampling (convenience sampling). The sample used in this study consists of fourth-semester Elementary Teacher Education (PGSD )students who are taking the science learning course. Data collection was conducted using a Concept Understanding Instrument Sheet. The percentage of students' concept understanding above the average increased from 40.1% to 63.4%. This indicates that the concept understanding attained improved after receiving treatment in the form of the frequency generator application. The N-Gain test results yielded an average score of 0.68.

Abstract

Biology learning is often perceived as difficult by students due to the abundance of abstract material, including the topic of kidney organs in the excretory system. This topic requires specific visualization to help students understand the concepts more easily and thoroughly. Therefore, this study aims to develop an Augmented Reality (AR)-based kidney organ handout as a practical learning medium to help high school students achieve mastery learning. This research employed a practicality instrument in the form of student response questionnaires and learning outcomes through a post-test. The students' practicality assessment showed a "very practical" category, with a percentage of 91.45%. Student learning outcomes after using the handout showed a minimum mastery criterion of 82.75%, exceeding the minimum threshold. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the AR-based kidney organ handout is a highly practical learning medium that can support high school students in achieving learning mastery.
