Abstract

This research aims to describe the correlation of mathematics skills as the basic skills that students need in order to solve physics problems that seem complicated and difficult to understand. Physics describes the order of nature in mathematical equations thus the ultimate goal of physics in finding other sequences and making use of it in real life can be achieved more easily. This research was conducted using literature study approach. The data were collected by means of documentation with secondary data obtained from several references. The data were then analyzed using content analysis technique. A relevant summary of the correlation between proper mathematical understanding and complex physics problem-solving ability was attained from this research. These results were confirmed by the data gained from a range of references in the form of books, both online and offline journals as well as prior conferences that have been read, reviewed and analyzed by focusing on the mastery of mathematics skills in developing students' critical thinking to work out physics problems.

Abstract

This research is backed by the condition of the community located in the border area of Indonesia-Malaysia especially in Entikong subdistrict of Sanggau Regency. As the frontier area of social and cultural life of community education in this region has always been a concern especially in conjunction with Malaysian Sarawak.  The inhabitants of this region generally embraced Catholicism and Catholic missionaries establishing schools of KINDERGARTEN to high school which are equipped with dormitories. The problem in this study is how the Catholic religious education influences the dialectics of Dayak culture in the region. Data taken using qualitative method is by observation, interviews and living with the community there. The study was held in July-September 2018. The results concluded that the education developed by Catholic missionaries has an effect on the dialectics of Dayak culture in this area. Besides education, other factors also affect the history, politics, and daily life at the border.  Another conclusion is that the Catholic missionary (the work of the education that has been developed) has an effect on the identity of Dayak culture in this region, Dayaks are more confident. This could be so because Catholic missionaries appreciate Dayak culture.  It is clear that the education developed by the Catholic religion plays a role in the formation of basic and primary materials for the formation of Dayak cultural dialectics in Entikong and other border areas in West Kalimantan.

Abstract

Vietnamese vocabulary is divided by different criteria, such as: word classes by origin; according to the scope of use; by using style and by positive and negative criteria, specifically, the native word class is the core class in Vietnamese vocabulary, which is a prop and plays a controlling role, controlling the activities of other word classes. Identifying a word as a native word is no easy task. Because Vietnamese has a common origin with Mon - Khmer languages. Therefore, there are words that still share common words. Finding the exact origin is extremely difficult, even for linguistic historians. In addition, the scope of words usage, the southern Buddhist press is heavily influenced by the Southern dialect, this is understandable because the writers (Buddhist reporters) often come from the South and one more thing is written for southern readers. In contrast, the current use of Buddhist jargon requires an exchange, that is: speaking of the Buddhist press language, it is impossible not to mention the word class (jargon) that has its own particularity. Buddhist jargon plays a tremendous role in preserving and promoting the values of Buddhism. It is inconceivable if the Buddhist language did not have these jargon

Abstract

Numerous research studies on language program evaluation in many countries, for instance, Turkey (Uysal, 2012), Taiwan (Chang, 2010), Bangladesh (Rahman, 2007), Saudi Arabia (Liton, 2013) have yielded valuable ideas and insights in improving the quality of language programs. Those research studies have also expanded the plethora of discussion and have tested many ‘untested’ thoughts in the area of language program evaluation. Nonetheless, similar studies have not been researched much far in the Indonesian education context. The present study aims to describe the importance of English teacher education program evaluation. Also, the study aims to explore a suitable evaluation model in evaluating English teacher education programs, particularly in the Indonesian tertiary education context. The findings of the study found Peacock's (2009) model as a potential evaluation model to apply in evaluating English teacher education programs. These are based on at least three following grounds: suitable to the needs and environment of English teacher education in Indonesia, reliable and informative evaluation, and thorough involvement of the inner circle stakeholders. The study concludes that if an evaluation is conducted properly, then it has the potential to improve the quality of English language teachers training programs.

Abstract

Evaluation has the potential to support the improvement of education as well as its specific programs, products, and materials. Also, evaluation can uncover the relevance, effectiveness, and efficiency of an education program.  Another potential role of evaluation is that it can identify areas for improvement, which further can help develop a more efficient program in the future. The present study seeks to investigate the most appropriate approach to evaluation for the EFL pre-service teacher training programs in Indonesia. Numerous potential approaches were identified and discussed: Pseudoevaluations, Questions Methods-Oriented, Improvement Accountability, and Social Agenda/Advocacy. The present study argues that the Improvement/Accountability Approaches are the most suitable evaluation approach to apply to the pre-service EFL teacher training programs in Indonesia, due to its strength in the philosophical stance that fits with the Indonesian context. Also, the purpose of the evaluation and the various types of informants offer by the approach add to the appropriacy. The study may provide significant contributions to better design more effective teacher training programs, which will lead to producing more qualified graduates
