Abstract

This study investigated the values and symbols within the traditional festival of Pujawali (Perang Topat) in West Lombok village of Lingsar and the relation between the values and symbols and tourism. The “perang” or war uses “ketupat” made from rice boiled in plaited coconut leaves as a weapon. The existence of the tradition nowadays becomes more popular. This tradition is not only about local celebration, but more about values and symbols beyond it. This study employed descriptive qualitative method, using interviews, observations and library research as techniques to collect data. The interviewees were the older members of two communities of Hindu and Muslim in Lingsar village. The finding indicated that Pujawali contains values, including historical, religious, and social values, and contains symbols of tolerance, brotherhood, and solidarity. The study suggests that the values and symbol which are represented in the traditional festival reflect the characteristics of Lingsar people—diverse but united.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the student’s mathematical problem solving based on John Dewey’s step viewed by learning style. The subjects are 2 students with a visual learning style, 2 students with auditory learning style, and a student with kinaesthetic learning. The data was collected through a questionnaire of learning style, the test of mathematics problem solving, interview, and documentation. Then it was analyzed used Milles and Huberman model’s data analyzed technique consist of data reduction, data display, and conclusion (verification). This research shows that: (1) the visual subject confronted the problem by reading the question silently in several times, the subject can’t define the problem correctly, can’t found the right solution so that calculating and the answer is not correct, and can’t test consequences (looking back), (2) the auditory subject confronted the problem with reading the question in several times loudly, the subject can define the problem correctly, can found the right solution so that calculating and the answer correctly, and can’t test consequences (looking back), (3) the kinesthetic subject confronted the problem with reading the question in several times, the subject can’t define the problem correctly, can’t found the right solution so that calculating and the answer is not correct, and can’t test consequences (looking back).

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problems of food technology that has been growing rapidly at today, including the use of ingredients, which is the vital thing to be considered in its preparation. For Muslim community, the problem that arises is the number of food ingredients, both the main raw material and the additive material, which are difficult to trace their origin, whether they are from halal sources or not.  There is also a public perception concerning the clarity or label of halal food products purchased. It would impact the decision purchase of food product. This study used a case method using questionnaire for Moslem students in UPI Department of Culinary Study Program. Correlational analysis was done to find the correlation of conception on label food with purchase decision making. The result shows that there is  a sifnificant correlation between both respondents or consumers’ conception on label information of food ingredients and their purchase decision making. This is evident in the correlation which indicates the presence of a significant relation (r=0,546). It could be recomended that in any attempt to produce food, especially in Indonesia, food ingredients in terms of being halal and hygienic should be highly considered; therefore the producers should have a halal certificate of the authorities, which in this case Board of Indonesian Muslim Scholars (MUI).

Within 4,335 words 41 different DMs were identified, but the number of occurrences of each DM was quite different. Total number of all DMs occurrences was 415 which composed 10.44 % of the total word count. Taking into consideration functions of DMs, there were found 358 occurrences of DMs fulfilling textual functions and 57 occurrences of DMs in interpersonal functions. Based on the result, the percentage of occurrences of discourse markers are more frequent in the textual discourse markers (86, 3%) than interpersonal discourse markers (13, 7%).
