Abstract

Sarcopenia and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) present a significant health burden, particularly within Asian populations. This systematic review aims to explore the prevalence and impact of sarcopenia in Asian individuals with T2DM. Employing a comprehensive literature search in databases like PubMed and Scopus from 2013 to 2023, studies were selected based on strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. The review focuses on the relationship between sarcopenia and T2DM, considering factors such as chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalances, and lifestyle choices. Results from 11 high-quality studies indicate a higher prevalence and risk of sarcopenia in T2DM patients, with a pooled odds ratio of 1.49, suggesting a 49% increased risk in the diabetic population. The findings highlight the need for integrated management strategies and suggest further research into long-term interventions. The study emphasizes the importance of routine sarcopenia screening and a holistic approach to diabetes care that includes diet, exercise, and medication to improve patient outcomes.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS remains a global health challenge, with adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) being crucial for its management. This comprehensive concept analysis explores adherence to ART in people living with HIV/AIDS, considering its multifaceted nature and the diverse factors influencing it. The purpose of this study was to explore the concept of adherence and define the operational definition of adherence to antiretroviral therapy in PLWH. Walker and Avant’s eight-step concept analysis was used in this study. The terms "adherence", "compliance", "concordance", and "definition" were used in a literature search that was done using the EBSCOhost, Proquest, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases. The inclusion criteria were full text, written in English or Indonesian, and open access. This study identified four attributes that constitute the concept of adherence: the ability to follow recommended treatment recommendations, collaborative/cooperative whether forced or not, obedience/loyalty/discipline, adaptability and flexibility. The antecedents of adherence to ARV are patient-related factors, therapy-related factors, environment-related factors and health care system-related factors. The consequences of adherence are increasing health outcomes, reducing the transmission of HIV and health care costs. This concept analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of adherence, emphasizing the need for individualized assessments, patient education, stigma reduction, social support, and targeted interventions. Collaboration among healthcare providers, continuous education, and measurement tool refinement are essential for enhancing adherence rates, improving patient outcomes, and reducing the global burden of HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

Each year, there is a concerning rise in premarital sexual activity among adolescent females aged 20-24 years (Ningsih, 2022). This study investigates the complex factors influencing risky sexual behavior among high school students in South Jakarta in 2022. Existing literature identifies numerous determinants, including parental education, knowledge, attitudes, peer influence, media exposure, age, gender, residence, religion, education level, family structure, sex education, culture, economic status, and substance use (Puspasari Tafa, 2020; Etrawati et al., 2017).Using an ecological approach, the study comprehensively analyzes these factors across microsystem, mesosystem, and macrosystem levels to effectively address risky sexual behaviors among adolescents. A cross-sectional survey of 208 10th-grade students employed purposive sampling and structured questionnaires examining thirteen variables guided by Green's PRECEDE model. Findings indicate 43.3% of respondents engage in risky sexual behaviors, with significant associations found with age, knowledge, attitude, parental occupation, residence, vehicle ownership, relationship status, peer influence, parental role, religious adherence, and media impact (p 0.05). Religious adherence emerged as a predominant factor, with non-observant individuals being 200 times more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviors (p = 0.000, OR = 200.407).

Abstract

Background: The prone position is one of the highly recommended interventions to treat hypoxaemia and lung injury in ARDS patients. However, its efficacy in non-intubated patients remains inconclusive due to predominantly being reviewed through observational and case studies. This review aims to evaluate the efficacy of prone position on the oxygenation status and mortality rate of ARDS patients through experimental studies. Methode: This review systematically searched three international databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL from November to December 2022, without restricting the publication year. The focus was solely on experimental studies examining the effectiveness of prone positioning in adult, non-intubated ARDS patients. The quality of studies was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tool. Results: Of the 12 included studies, most RCTs were identified as poor quality. All patients appeared to be infected with Covid-19, and the majority were on conventional oxygen therapy. Most studies showed that the prone position was effective in improving the oxygenation status for up to two hours post-session, with a mortality rate not substantially different from that of control group. Further good-quality experimental studies are needed to strengthen these results. Conclusion: The prone position is quite effective in improving the oxygenation status of patients.
