Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the combination of ethanol extract of turmeric rhizome and green tea leaves on serum iron levels in Wistar rats induced hemosiderosis . This experimental study used 24 Wistar rats divided into four groups of six rats each, namely negative control, positive control, and two treatment groups with doses of 100 mg/kgBW and 200 mg/kgBW extract combination. Serum iron levels were measured after treatment, then analyzed using the Shapiro Wilk normality test, One Way ANOVA, and Tukey Post Hoc further test. The results showed that the positive control group had the highest serum iron levels , while the treatment group experienced a significant decrease in serum iron levels with a dose-response pattern; a dose of 200 mg/kgBW decreased iron levels more than a dose of 100 mg/kgBW. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between groups (p 0.05 ) , and the dose-response effect was confirmed by Tukey Post Hoc test. This decrease in serum iron levels is thought to be related to the activity of curcumin as an iron binder and antioxidant, as well as the catechin polyphenols in green tea, which work synergistically to reduce iron accumulation and oxidative stress. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the combination of ethanol extract of turmeric rhizome and green tea leaves is effective in reducing serum iron levels in Wistar rats with induced hemosiderosis, thus having potential as an alternative or supportive therapy in controlling iron overload.

Abstract

Caring for a baby causes stress, especially for babies with meagre birth weight. If a child is not cared for properly, many problems can lead to injury and even death. However, some mothers handle LBW at home. This scenario is exciting to explore the new experience of giving birth to an LBW child, as well as the LBW mother being able to care for him effectively. This research aims to analyze mothers' experiences in caring for LBW babies at home. Mothers who successfully care for LBW babies at home are in an exciting situation to gain new experiences. This research uses the Scoping Review design method using the PRISMA-ScR Checklist with the Population, Exposure, Outcomes Design (PEO) Framework using the ScienceDirect, Pubmed and Wiley databases.Search for articles using the keywords (Baby*) OR (Low Birth Weight*) AND (Experience*) AND (Care*). With the inclusion criteria for articles from 2013-2023, original articles, articles in Indonesian and English. Exclusion criteria for opinion papers, theses and theses. Various articles use Prisma Flowcharts and Critical Appraisal using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The research results show that caring for LBW babies requires cooperation from all parties, especially the family. Extended families will be replaced with accurate information from health workers. The next activity is that health workers can collaborate with related community institutions so that if there are people who have LBW babies, they can access health services related to the care of LBW babies optimally. This comprehensive review identified three themes regarding mothers' experiences in LBW management, namely: mothers' views on LBW management, mothers' experiences in LBW management using the kangaroo method, and LBW management using the KMC method as well as the mother's lack of knowledge and experience about something significant that causes injury. Even death in children. To minimize stress and lack of confidence when caring for LBW at home, there needs to be encouragement from partners and family members.

Abstract

Geographical barriers and robust social stigma continue to pose significant obstacles in developing nations to accessing precise reproductive health information. The integration of digital technology into family planning services has emerged as an innovative solution to address this access divide. The objective of this review is to depict the diverse forms of digital educational media innovations in contraceptive counseling and to evaluate their influence on the decision-making process regarding contraceptive use. A systematic search was conducted in the PubMed, Google Scholar, Wiley Online Library, and Cochrane databases as part of a scoping review that adhered to the PRISMA-ScR framework. The JBI Critical Appraisal instrument was employed to evaluate the quality of a total of 12 articles. The synthesis results indicate that digital innovations are implemented in the form of social media edutainment platforms, algorithm-based decision-support applications, and automated text/voice messages. In comparison to conventional methods, these interventions have been demonstrated to substantially enhance health literacy and increase the likelihood of modern contraceptive use by 1.6 to 2.4 times. Although the incorporation of privacy features and the use of local languages has been effective in enhancing women's autonomy, it continues to encounter challenges, such as gender disparities in access to digital devices and limited internet infrastructure. In summary, the incorporation of digital technology has the potential to revolutionize the experience of contraceptive counseling by making it more interactive and personalized. However, it is necessary to employ strategies that are adaptable to local cultural values and social structures in order to guarantee long-term acceptance.

Abstract

Background: Cigarette smoke may cause discoloration of denture bases, thereby reducing their aesthetic quality. Therefore, an effective denture cleansing solution is needed. Commercial effervescent denture cleansers are commonly used; however, they are relatively expensive and not easily accessible for some communities.Aim: To evaluate the effect and effectiveness of sodium bicarbonate solution combined with apple cider vinegar at various concentrations in preventing discoloration of heat-cured acrylic resin denture bases exposed to cigarette smoke. Methods: This study used a laboratory experimental design with a post-test control group design. The samples were divided into five groups, consisting of two control groups and three treatment groups: sodium bicarbonate combined with 1 percent, 10 percent, and 20 percent apple cider vinegar. Each group was observed for 21 days. Color changes were measured daily, and the results were calculated using the Delta Eab formula and then averaged. Results: Significant differences were found between the negative control group and both the positive control group and the treatment groups. The findings indicated that the cleaning solution containing sodium bicarbonate and apple cider vinegar at concentrations of 1 percent, 10 percent, and 20 percent was effective in inhibiting discoloration of heat-cured acrylic resin denture bases exposed to cigarette smoke. Conclusion: Immersion of heat-cured acrylic resin denture bases exposed to filter cigarette smoke in a denture cleanser containing sodium bicarbonate and apple cider vinegar affected the inhibition of discoloration. The most effective concentration was 50 percent sodium bicarbonate combined with 20 percent apple cider vinegar.
