Abstract

Intradialytic eating (IE) remains controversial due to the absence of standardised clinical guidelines. While it can potentially improve patients' nutritional status, its effects on hemodynamic stability and dialysis adequacy remain inconclusive. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of IE timing on hemodynamic and dialysis adequacy. A quasi-experimental design with a control group was employed, involving 32 hemodialysis patients assigned to either an intervention or control group. The intervention group received a standardised meal consisting of 100 ml of milk and two egg whites (200 kcal; approximately 15 grams of protein) at varying times during five dialysis sessions. Observed parameters included systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate, MAP, and Kt/V. Measurements were recorded every 30 minutes throughout each session. Data were analysed using independent t-test and Repeated Measures ANOVA with Bonferroni correction. No statistically significant differences between the intervention and control groups across all parameters (p 0.05). However, within the intervention group, repeated measures ANOVA revealed changes in systolic blood pressure (p = 0.004), MAP (p = 0.021), and Kt/V (p = 0.031). Post-hoc Bonferroni tests identified significant differences in systolic blood pressure (p = 0.010 and p = 0.045) and MAP (p = 0.041). IE had a significant impact on hemodynamics during the first and second hours of dialysis (p 0.05). These findings indicate that IE toward the end of dialysis may serve as a safe nutritional approach, with minimal hemodynamic risk and greater potential for preserving dialysis adequacy compared to earlier phases of the session

Abstract

This research explores the potential association between glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and total serum cholesterol among early adults. Utilizing a cross-sectional analytic approach, the study recruited 72 students from four universities located in Bandar Lampung and Metro City, Lampung Province. Laboratory testing was conducted to assess cardiovascular risk through measurements of HbA1c and cholesterol levels. Pearson correlation analysis was applied to examine the relationship between the variables. The results revealed no statistically significant correlation between HbA1c and total cholesterol (r = 0.009, p = 0.9391), nor between HbA1c and blood pressure (r = 0.0118, p = 0.9213). Despite the absence of significant associations, these findings highlight the importance of early metabolic screening in young populations to support timely interventions and prevent long-term cardiovascular issues.

Abstract

Red betel leaf is a plant that is rich in benefits, one of which is as an antioxidant. The benefits as an antioxidant in plants are due to the content of phenolic and flavonoid compounds. Phenolic compounds also function as protection against UV-B rays, this ability can be seen from the SPF value. The purpose of this study was to determine the amount of phenolic and flavonoid compounds and the antioxidant and sunscreen activity of ethanol extract from red betel leaves. Phenolic content was determined using 10% Follin Ciocalteu reagent and 20% Na2CO3. In contrast, flavonoid content used AlCl3 and CH3COONa solutions, and the determination of antioxidant activity was carried out using DPPH. In contrast, the ability a protect against sunlight (sunscreen) was carried out by determining the sun protection factor (SPF) value. After measurements were carried out using a UV-visible spectrophotometer, the results obtained were a phenolic content of 257.56 mg GAE/g and flavonoids of 46.8008 mg QE/g. They had a very strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 38.9338 ppm and had sunscreen activity with an SPF value of 5, 17, 28, 36, and 38 at concentrations of 100, 300, 500, 700, and 1000 ppm respectively.

Abstract

The paper presents nurse’s perspective on the link between psychological empowerment, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. Low levels of organizational commitment among nurses in 5 locations Type II Indonesian Air Force hospitals (RSAU) have become a significant challenge in delivering high-quality healthcare services. This study aims to analyze and validate the contributing factors using data collected from questionnaires and absenteeism records from 2020. Using a purposive sampling technique, a total of 362 nurses agreed to participate as respondents and completed the questionnaire. The results indicate that psychological empowerment as an individual characteristic, can affect organizational commitment as an individual outcome, with job satisfaction serving as the mediating mechanism. Therefore, it is advisable for organizations to increase job satisfaction which plays an important mediating role in increasing organizational commitment,. For further research, it is suggested to include parameters related to organizational culture, ability, and nurse’s personalities to gain a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

HIV infection increases the burden of pulmonary TB, especially in populations with a high prevalence of pulmonary TB, including in Indonesia. People with HIV infection become susceptible to other infections, including pulmonary TB. This study aims to analyze the determinants associated with the occurrence of pulmonary TB co-infection among HIV-positive patients. The study design used a crossectional study based on patient medical records, conducted on all HIV-positive patients at KHZ Mushtafa Regional Hospital, Tasikmalaya Regency, from 2022-2023 and obtained 140 respondents. Research subjects with incomplete medical records were excluded from the study. Demographic and clinical data were analyzed using SPSS to process univariate, bivariate data, and multiple logistic regression at a 95% confidence interval. A total of 59.2% of HIV patients suffered from pulmonary TB co-infection. The average age of patients was 30.7 years; 77.8% were male; 75.9% were married; and 69.3% were employed. Multivariate analysis results showed that clinical stage (p=0.009; OR 2.9 (1,319-6,734), duration of ARV therapy (p0.001, OR=5.3 (2,246-12,474), and the presence of other opportunistic infections (p0.001, OR=4.6 (1,963-11,005)) were the significant predictors  of TB/HIV co-infection at KHZ Musthafa Regional Hospital, Tasikmalaya Regency. The high prevalence of pulmonary TB indicates low screening in at-risk population groups. Integrated and comprehensive services for pulmonary TB and HIV diagnosis and treatment are needed for better management of TB/HIV co-infection.
