Abstract

Emotion regulation is an essential ability that enables students to manage, control, and express their emotions adaptively in various situations. A needs analysis conducted through observations and interviews revealed that students still experience difficulties in regulating their emotions, while the media used in guidance and counseling services remain limited. Therefore, more engaging and interactive learning media are needed. This study aimed to develop the Whack a Picture game as a guidance and counseling medium to train junior high school students' emotion regulation and to determine its validity and practicality. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D development model, which consists of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. However, this study was conducted only up to the develop stage. The research participants consisted of one material expert, one media expert, one guidance and counseling teacher, and eight eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Medan. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires and were analyzed descriptively using percentage analysis. The results indicated that the Whack a Picture game achieved a validity score of 100% from the media expert and 83% from the material expert, both categorized as highly valid. The practicality test showed scores of 98% based on the guidance and counseling teacher's responses and 90% based on the students' responses, both categorized as highly practical. Therefore, the Whack a Picture game is considered valid and practical for use as a guidance and counseling medium to help train junior high school students' emotion regulation.

Abstract

Land cover changes over the past two decades have resulted in a significant decline in water infiltration capacity, particularly in regions experiencing high development pressure such as the Bolon Watershed in North Sumatra. This decline is closely associated with the conversion of natural vegetation to residential areas and built-up land. This study aims to predict water infiltration conditions in the Bolon Watershed over the next ten years using an integrated spatial-temporal approach. Three methodologies were employed: Cellular Automata-Markov Chain (CA-MC) for projecting land cover changes, Weighted Multi-Criteria Analysis (WMCA) based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for multi-parameter assessment, and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to capture nonlinear relationships among environmental variables. The results indicate that although areas with high infiltration capacity remain dominant, their extent tends to decrease. Conversely, areas with very low infiltration capacity show an increasing trend, reflecting the continuous pressure of urbanization. The most influential variables affecting land infiltration capacity are land cover, soil texture, slope gradient, and precipitation, with expert assessment results demonstrating acceptable consistency. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating predictive spatial methods in spatial planning to identify priority conservation areas. Through this approach, data-driven policy formulation becomes more accurate in preventing the degradation of ecological functions in water infiltration areas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Islamic counseling strategies for addressing bullying behavior among students at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta Plus Al-Ulum Medan and to describe changes in students’ behavior following the implementation of counseling. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The informants consisted of guidance and counseling teachers, homeroom teachers, students who engaged in bullying, and students who were victims of bullying. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and were subsequently analyzed descriptively. The findings indicate that Islamic counseling strategies were implemented through problem identification, a personal approach, the counseling process, reinforcement of Islamic values, victim support, and continuous monitoring. Prior to counseling, verbal and social bullying was identified in the form of teasing, derogatory nicknames, humiliation, and social exclusion, which caused victims to feel uncomfortable and tend to withdraw from social interactions. Following counseling, positive behavioral changes were observed, including a reduction in teasing and degrading behavior, improved self-control and empathy, greater respect for peers, and increased willingness among victims to interact with others and communicate their concerns to teachers. The reinforcement of moral values, ukhuwah (brotherhood and solidarity), compassion, responsibility, and mutual respect constituted important components of the behavioral change process. The study concludes that Islamic counseling strategies contribute positively to addressing and reducing bullying tendencies while fostering healthier and more constructive social interactions among students.
