Abstract

The widespread use of the internet has led to a new activity involving individuals in spreading goodness through voluntary social engagement. This activity is known as online volunteering. The flexible nature of online volunteering has increased interest and enthusiasm, particularly among emerging adults, motivating them to participate in such activities. However, research on this phenomenon, especially among emerging adults, is still limited. This study aims to explore the various forms of motivation among emerging adults to participate in online volunteering. A total of 205 emerging adult participants who have previously or are currently engaged in online volunteering activities are recruited to complete the Volunteer Functions Inventory adaptation scale. Descriptive analysis indicates that out of the six proposed motivation forms, Motivations related to understanding, values, and enhancement play a crucial role in motivating emerging adults to engage in online volunteering. These three motivational factors serve as the primary incentives for emerging adults to develop themselves and achieve their goals. Additionally, the study finds that emerging adults who engage in online volunteering activities for 6 months to 1 year and those who participate in environmental online volunteering exhibit higher motivation compared to those engaged in volunteering for longer durations and in other volunteer fields. Overall, this research identifies a high level of motivation among emerging adults participating in online volunteering activities, categorizing it as a significant driving factor.

Abstract

The current needs of cyclists, which have now become part of their lifestyle, are accessories and spare parts. One of the reasons someone decides to buy something is due to the influence of conformity. The purpose of this study is to predict the contribution of conformity behavior to the decision to purchase bicycle accessories and spare parts. This research uses a quantitative method with a simple regression analysis. The scales used are the conformity scale and the purchase decision scale. The sampling technique used in this is the purposive sampling technique. The population in this study consists of adult cyclists (21–60 years old), for a total of 83 participants. Based on the analysis of data collected from the conformity scale and purchase decision scale, then processed using SPSS version 26, it was found that the significance value of conformity and purchase decision is 0.00 (p= < 0.05), which means conformity significantly influences purchase decisions. However, this influence occurs negatively. Meanwhile, the contribution of conformity to purchase decisions is 16.9%. Based on the research results, it is shown that adult cyclists exhibit conformity behavior, and this conformity behavior negatively influences the decision to purchase bicycle accessories and spare parts. This finding is noteworthy because conformity is commonly found in adolescents, while adulthood is generally referred to as "trial and error" behavior, but this time conformity behavior is found in adults. The reason conformity only slightly influences purchase decisions may be because there are still many other factors influencing purchase decisions, such as self-concept, product quality, product branding, lifestyle, attitudes or evaluations of products, and income.

Descriptive analysis and inferential analysis using Pearson's correlation and independent t-tests were utilized to analyze the data. The current findings suggested a non-significant relationship between perceived support from family [r (177) = - .073, p = .335] and self-acceptance. Conversely, there was a significant positive relationship between perceived support from friends and self-acceptance [r (177) = .191, p = .011], as well as between perceived support from significant others and self-acceptance [r (177) = .177, p = .019]. Furthermore, no significant differences were found between male and female polytechnic students regarding perceived social support, including family, friends, and significant others. Abstract

Father has a significant role in the family. The loss of the father caused a deep sadness for his son. This sadness can affect one's independence dynamics, especially in achievements. This study explored the development of independence and its impact on academic achievement in high-achieving students who had lost their fathers. Through qualitative case study research, two high-achieving students from IAIN Pontianak were investigated using in-depth interviews and observations. The data is analyzed by Milles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The findings revealed diverse experiences in the formation and development of independence. One participant established independence post-bereavement, which subsequently contributed to improved academic performance. Conversely, the other participant possessed pre-existing independence, which facilitated their adjustment and achievement following their father's death. Overall, the study underscores the crucial role of independence in shaping the academic trajectories of bereaved students. It highlights how independence, encompassing emotional, economic, intellectual, and social dimensions, not only enhances academic success but also equips students to navigate the challenges and emotional turmoil associated with parental loss.
