Abstract

This study aimed to findout how doctoral students have academic resilience to overcome various challenge in their doctoral journey and complete all the learning process optimally. The approach chosen in this research was qualitative case study. Participants consisted of six students of Psychology Doctoral Program of Airlangga University who have successfully completed the study. The participants' study period varied from 4 to 6 years. Data collection in this research was conducted by using interview and initial data entry sheet. The thematic data driven was used in analyzing data. The results identified that doctoral students will have academic resilience if they are able to adapt positively to negative experiences during the study process. The three main negative experiences reported by participants are: The problem of time-sharing between roles, problems with mentors and examiners, and problems in conducting the research. The positive adaptation consists of two categories: By prioritizing the positive response of in stressful situations and making positive personal adjustments. Those results can further be utilized to formulate effective steps in providing more accurate mentoring process for doctoral students.

Abstract

This research aimed at examining ways by which Madurese women could achieve satisfaction in early marriage. This research used a qualitative research method with an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). To understand the meaning of one?s experience by looking for themes from available data, IPA rested on three pillars, namely phenomenology, hermeneutics, and idiography. In this research, the researchers used semi-structured interviews to collect data and purposive homogeneous sampling. The participants involved were three married women under 18 years old who were living in Madura. The results of the research show that the three women are satisfied in their marriage. The satisfaction of their marriage can be seen from taking care of each other when sick, giving her enough money, and always happy with her husband, not far apart. Furthermore, Madurese women dissatisfaction in her marriage can be seen from anger if she is not given money and is not helped in doing household.

Abstract

Sibling conflict has some influences on children’s development, positively and negatively. It is not only about the frequency, but also about the strategies used in managing conflict. The main purpose of this study was to adapt and to validate Sibling Conflict Strategy Scale developed by Recchia (2009), so it can be used by parents in Indonesia to identify their children’s strategies. The process of adaptation was guided by the International Testing Commission (ITC) Guidelines model for test adaptation, which include forward – backward translation processes, followed by expert reviews to test language and conceptual equivalence. Then, we conducted the validation process by testing the Content Validity Index (CVI) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Two hundred and six parents in Surabaya who have children in the age range of 52-87 months (M = 71.21) were participated in the pilot study. The result showed that each indicator, dimension, and construct met all the Goodness of Fit criteria (RMSEA < .08; CFI > .9). In addition, the value of Construct Reliability (CR) > .70 and Average Variance Extracted (AVE) > .50 were also obtained. Thus, the Sibling Conflict Strategy Scale can be used as a valid and reliable measurement to measure children’s sibling conflict strategies in Indonesia.

Abstract

A number of data show that early marriages still occur in Madura. This is caused by several factors, one of which is low education. This study took place in Madura because in Madura early marriage is still quite a lot done. Some of the underlying factors are the Islamic understanding that if a child is already adult (baligh), they can already get married. In addition, Madurese people still adhere to the tradition of matchmaking and the existence of a belief called sangkal (if women reject applications from men, they will become spinsters or ta paju lake '). This study aims to conduct a literature review on the low level of education with the occurrence of early marriage in Madura. Literature search is done through portalgaruda.org, google scholar, and onesearch.id database by using the keywords "pernikahan dini” (“early marriage”) and “tingkat pendidikan” (“level of education”). The literature collected by using these keywords are 31 articles, but after adding the keyword "Madura" the literature collected becomes 7 articles. The method used in this study is a study of narrative literature. The study shows that low education plays a role in the occurrence of early marriage in Madura.

Abstract

This review of the literature aims to explain why Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) is appropriate as an approach in helping individuals achieve resilience, after experiencing certain traumatic events. This study was motivated by the need for a conceptual explanation of what approaches can be recommended so that recovery of post-traumatic psychological conditions and the achievement of resilience can be carried out with more efficient and effective processes. The method used in this study was comparative analysis, involving a variety of relevant literature to identify alignment concepts between SFBC and resilience. The intended literature includes reference books, reputable scientific journal articles, and various information from credible sources. The results of the study show that there are points of similarity in the two theories, both in terms of basic assumptions and concepts related to the intervention process which confirms the relevance and accuracy of the use of SFBC in helping individuals achieve post-traumatic resilience. This study can then be used as a scientific foothold for the application of SFBC in an effort to increase individual resilience in various contexts.

Abstract

Case studies are often used in qualitative research from a variety of disciplines, such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science, and many more. But along with its development, there are several different understandings about what a case study is and how to conduct scientific research using a case study approach appropriately. In fact, the case study approach with the right procedures has flexibility and high accuracy which allows researchers to be able to take a simple to complex phenomenon and develop theories, program designs, interventions. The purpose of this article is to provide a systematic review about case study definitions, types of case studies, and important points that researcher should know to conduct case studies properly. The review data are also summarized systematically in tabulated form.
