Abstract

Psychobiography of Ragil Kencono, a 28-year-old man, has embarked on an emotionally and spiritually transformative journey. He has dedicated himself to the exploration of transpersonal psychology, guided by mentors who have continuously supported his path. Through this process, he has identified and integrated multiple subpersonalities within himself. Following his studies in transpersonal psychotherapy and participation in workshops on letting go, mindfulness, and compassion, Ragil not only uncovered his own subpersonalities, but also successfully addressed sibling rivalry with his older brother, assisted his father in achieving greater self-understanding, and facilitated the resolution of one of his mother’s subpersonalities. This biographical study aims to provide a detailed account of Ragil Kencono’s journey in recognizing and integrating his subpersonalities. The research employs in-depth interviews with probing techniques, generating a comprehensive and chronological narrative of his life experiences from childhood to the present. The findings indicate that Ragil successfully identified and integrated his subpersonalities, as well as those of his family, through a structured four-stage process: recognition, acceptance, inclusion, and synthesis.

Abstract

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is a learning program recommended by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia to be implemented to increase students' mental health. This study aims to develop a psycho-education program called Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) based on participatory action research which results in 10 sessions for this program. Furthermore, researchers also examine the effectiveness of it in increasing teachers’ knowledge about student development, the student’s social skills, and student’s perceptions about the implementation of SEL in schools. The participants are 30 teachers from several schools who were assigned to the experimental group with a pre-post one group study design. Also, some teachers assessed 30 students to know the increase in their social skills, and five students participated in interview sessions. Before and after the implementation of the training program, teachers were given a pre-test and post-test related to the knowledge about student’s development (physics, cognitive, social, and emotional) and students were assessed by their teachers (pre and post) related to student’s social skills (communication, cooperation, assertive, responsible, empathy, engagement, self-control). Results showed there is increasing teacher’s knowledge about student’s development with Z = -3.839, p = 0.000 and also there is increasing in children’s social skills with the value t = -4.071, p = 0.000. Furthermore, based on student’s perceptions, there are five themes, and seven categories obtained, which is student’s feeling satisfied with the implementation of SEL in learning.

Abstract

Teenagers who tend to prioritize emotional considerations over rational ones cause an increase in Indonesian teenager's smoking rate. Apart from that, teenagers' experiences of receiving praise or ridicule from friends when smoking or not smoking and the desire to be accepted by the environment are the emotional reasons teenagers start smoking. In this case, efforts can be made to prevent smoking behavior by providing assertiveness training to teenagers. This research aims to see the difference in influence before and after being given assertive training on students. This research used an experimental research method with a one group pretest-posttest design. The population was 312 MTSN 1 Pangkalpinang students with a sample of 10 subjects. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The measuring tool used was a 49-item smoking behavior scale and the module used as an assertive training guide was the assertive training module (refusing invitations to smoke). The data processing technique used SPSS 22. From the results of the Paired Sample T Test data analysis, the coefficient p = 0.124 > 0.05, meaning there was no significant difference between before being given training and after being given assertive training. It can be concluded that providing assertive training can increase assertive attitudes in adolescents. However, in this study some factors caused no difference in influence before and after being given assertive training, including; inappropriate training methods, low motivation of young people to participate in the training, and limited discussion and training time.

Abstract

Children in orphanages have different lives than children in general. Living in an orphanage certainly provides challenges for them. Despite the limitations of living in an orphanage, they are also required to continue to have dreams and aspirations for their future. This study examines the association between self-acceptance and self-esteem and their impact on optimism among orphanage children. The hypothesis posits a positive correlation between self-esteem, self-acceptance, and optimism in this particular context. The study employs three validated scales: the optimism scale developed by Scheier et al., the self-acceptance scale proposed by Berger, and the self-esteem scale devised by Rosenberg. Based on purposive sampling, the research participants were 254 children aged 12-18 living in orphanages located in Central Java. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between self-acceptance, self-esteem, and optimism among the children in the orphanage setting, underscoring that elevated levels of self-esteem and self-acceptance among orphaned children correspond to heightened levels of optimism they possess.

Abstract

This research explores the concept of grit among students who failed to reach their Qur’an memorization targets, a topic that has received limited attention in educational psychology and Islamic learning contexts. The study aims to clarify the aspects of grit and the factors that influence its development among students at SMP MATAQU Utsman Bin Affan. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, five participants, three female and two male, third-grade junior high school students were selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. The findings show that three participants demonstrated grit characterized by passion and perseverance, while two participants had not yet developed consistent persistence in achieving long-term goals. Internal factors such as interest, disciplined practice, goal orientation, and hope were identified as key components of shaping grit, whereas external factors, including parental involvement, structured school programs, and supportive learning and memorizing culture, further strengthened students’ determination. The results indicate that grit in Qur’an memorization is influenced not only by personal motivation but also by social and institutional support, suggesting that teachers and parents play an important role in cultivating students’ persistence and commitment.

Abstract

The development of young athletes requires serious attention to mental aspects, including in baseball. They need to receive mental training from an early age to maintain their motivation to participate and practice sports. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of goal-setting training in increasing the motivation of young baseball players under the age of 16 who are trained by local governments. This method uses a three-cycle action research design to observe the gradual increase in athlete motivation to determine increase in athlete motivation. The instrument used is the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) questionnaire (McAuley et al., 1989), which consists of four aspects, with the following reliability coefficients: interest-enjoyment (r=0.78); perceived competence (r=0.80); effort-importance (r=0.84); and tension-pressure (r=0.68). The results of the study in cycle I showed an increase in motivation from a score of 71.61 (86.28%) to 73.94 (89.09%). The results of cycle II showed an increase in motivation scores to 75.89 (91.43%), and the results of cycle III showed an increase in motivation scores to 76.22 (91.83%). Thus, it can be concluded that mental training interventions in the form of goal-setting exercises have succeeded in increasing the motivation of baseball athletes. More holistic mental training is needed to improve the mental skills of baseball athletes in the future.

Abstract

Communication functions as a mediating activity that influences individuals’ psychological states, including their psychological well-being, which in turn affects performance and quality of life across various domains. Research on communication anxiety, willingness to communicate, and self-perception in communication forms a core part of communication psychology, a field that examines communicative behaviors in relation to psychological constructs such as self-efficacy, self-esteem, common mental health disorders, grit, growth language mindset, and burnout. This study employs a systematic literature review approach, synthesizing empirical findings from research conducted within the past five to seven years. The review encompasses studies focusing on diverse professional groups, including psychiatrists, students, and educators (such as professors). The results demonstrate a significant association between communication psychology variables and individual performance in professional and academic contexts, with notable implications for psychological well-being. These findings highlight the importance of communication-related psychological factors as a central topic for further research aimed at enhancing individual performance and well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between hope and grit among final-year students at Malikussaleh University. The research method used is a quantitative correlational design with an accidental sampling technique. The research respondents consisted of 321 final-year students from the 2018–2020 cohorts who were working on their undergraduate thesis and participated in the study. Data were collected using a hope scale (13 items) and a grit scale (12 items), both modified by the researcher. Hypothesis testing was conducted using nonparametric statistics with Spearman’s rho correlation. The results indicate a very strong and significant positive relationship between hope and grit among final-year students at Malikussaleh University (r = 0.815, p =0.000). This finding suggests that higher levels of hope are associated with higher levels of grit, while lower levels of hope correspond to lower levels of grit in this population. The highest correlation within the hope construct was found in the agency thinking dimension, whereas the highest correlation within the grit construct was observed in the perseverance of effort dimension.
