Abstract

Reading comprehension is a crucial component of elementary school students' basic literacy, yet literacy achievement in Indonesia remains challenging. This article aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Reciprocal Teaching (RT) method in improving elementary school students' reading comprehension through a systematic literature review. The literature analyzed includes relevant primary and secondary sources from the 2020–2026 period. The study results indicate that RT tends to improve reading comprehension, student engagement, and metacognitive skills through four main strategies: predicting, questioning, clarifying, and summarizing. However, implementing RT requires teacher preparedness and gradual adjustments to reduce students' initial cognitive load. Overall, RT is a relevant and adaptive learning strategy to support strengthening reading literacy in elementary schools, including within the context of the Independent Curriculum. Keywords: Reciprocal Teaching, Reading Comprehension, Elementary School.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an interactive learning media based on Adobe Animate for the subject Fundamentals of Building Design Modeling and Information, particularly the Technical Drawing element, for Grade X students of the Building Design and Information Modeling (DPIB) program at SMK Negeri 5 Medan. The study was motivated by the dominant use of lecture-based teaching methods and conventional learning media, which made it difficult for students to understand abstract concepts and resulted in low participation during the learning process. This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The product developed was an Adobe Animate-based interactive learning application that can be operated on Android smartphones. The validation results indicated that the interactive learning media obtained average scores of 4.29 and 4.32 from two material experts and 4.30 and 4.33 from two media experts, all of which were categorized as Highly Feasible. The practicality test showed percentages of 90% and 84% from two subject teachers and 89% from 30 students, all of which were categorized as Highly Practical. Therefore, the Adobe Animate-based interactive learning media was considered feasible and practical as a supporting learning medium. It also has the potential to increase students' learning interest and facilitate their understanding of Technical Drawing materials. This study provides an innovative alternative learning medium and supports the integration of digital technology in 21st-century education.

Abstract

Critical thinking is an essential 21st-century skill that needs to be developed from elementary school, in line with the critical reasoning dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile in the Merdeka Curriculum. Observations at SDN Astakrama revealed that Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning on the Life Cycle of Living Things topic in third grade was still dominated by teacher-centered lecture methods, resulting in passive students and low critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine students' critical thinking skills before and after the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model, to analyze the improvement, and to measure the magnitude of the model's effect. The research employed a quantitative approach with a Quasi-Experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population consisted of all third-grade students at SDN Astakrama in the 2025/2026 academic year, with a saturated sampling technique resulting in class III-A as the experimental group (27 students) and class III-B as the control group (28 students). Data were collected through tests, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, N-Gain test, and effect size test. The results showed that before treatment, the critical thinking skills of both groups were relatively equivalent (0.059 > 0.05). After treatment, the experimental group obtained a posttest mean of 56.78, higher than the control group's 40.29. The improvement fell into the moderate category (N-Gain 0.4209), with an effect size of r = 0.33, also moderate. It is concluded that Project Based Learning has a positive and significant impact on improving the critical thinking skills of third-grade elementary school students in IPAS learning.

Abstract

This study analyzes the symbols in the drama script Diamonds and Toads by Charles Perrault and examines their function in building moral values. A descriptive qualitative method was applied, with data collected from the drama script adapted from Perrault's fairy tale. The analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's interactive model (data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing) combined with Roland Barthes' semiotic theory, which distinguishes denotation (literal meaning) and connotation (symbolic meaning). The findings reveal three categories of symbols: object symbols (40.91%), character symbols (31.82%), and place/event symbols (27.27%). Object symbols such as roses, pearls, and diamonds connote goodness and virtue, while vipers and toads connote evil and vice. Character symbols position the younger daughter as a symbol of humility and the elder daughter as a symbol of arrogance. Place symbols such as the fountain represent moral testing, the forest symbolizes exile and protection, and the palace represents reward. The symbols function through binary oppositions such as flowers versus snakes, humility versus pride, service versus selfishness, to convey the central moral message that good deeds produce good results and evil deeds produce evil results. The symbols serve four functions: providing concrete representations of abstract moral concepts, creating emotional resonance, serving as memory aids, and establishing a clear moral structure. This study contributes to literary studies, particularly in semiotics and symbol analysis in drama scripts, and offers practical benefits for educators and students in understanding moral values in literary works.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of individual counseling services in helping students overcome personal, social, and academic problems. The quality of services provided by school counselors is one of the main factors influencing students' satisfaction with counseling services. This study aimed to describe students' satisfaction with individual counseling services at SMP Negeri 1 V Koto Kampung Dalam. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. The participants consisted of four students as key informants, along with the counseling coordinator, a school counselor, and the vice principal for student affairs as supporting informants, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was ensured through source triangulation. The findings indicate that, in general, students were satisfied with the individual counseling services they received. Their satisfaction was reflected in the counselors' reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and ability to create a safe and comfortable counseling environment. The counseling services also helped students better understand themselves, reduce emotional burdens, and make more appropriate decisions in dealing with their problems. However, the positive changes experienced by students were not always sustained over time, indicating the need for continuous follow-up and regular evaluation to improve the effectiveness of individual counseling services in schools

Abstract

Academic integrity is a fundamental element in developing high-quality and character-based education. However, the rapid growth of digital technology and easy access to information have created various challenges, including plagiarism, academic dishonesty, and the misuse of technology in learning processes. In Islamic education, academic integrity can be strengthened through the internalization of an Islamic learning ethos grounded in the values of honesty, trustworthiness, discipline, responsibility, hard work, and worship-oriented learning. This study aims to analyze the concept of academic integrity from the perspective of Islamic education, examine the role of the Islamic learning ethos in strengthening academic integrity, and explain the relevance of the thoughts of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Khaldun to the formation of an integrity-based academic culture. This study employed a qualitative approach using a library research method. The findings indicate that academic integrity in Islam is not merely related to compliance with academic regulations but also represents the implementation of moral and spiritual values derived from Islamic teachings. The Islamic learning ethos plays a significant role in shaping honest, responsible, and ethical academic behavior. Furthermore, the ideas of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Khaldun provide a strong philosophical foundation for strengthening academic integrity through sincerity, proper conduct, perseverance, and respect for the learning process. Therefore, the integration of academic integrity and the Islamic learning ethos can serve as an effective strategy for building an integrity-based academic culture, improving the quality of graduates, and strengthening students’ character in the digital era.

Abstract

Arabic holds a strategic position in Islamic education, particularly as the language of the Qur'an and Islamic literature. One essential skill for students to master is *insya’* (Arabic composition writing), which requires not only vocabulary mastery but also the ability to construct sentences according to grammatical rules. *Nahwu* (Arabic syntax), serving as the grammatical foundation of the language, is believed to be closely linked to this skill. However, is this relationship empirically proven within the *pesantren* (Islamic boarding school) environment? This is the central question addressed by this study. The research was conducted at the Hayatuddiyar Islamic Boarding School in Pekanbaru, involving 20 students from grades X and XI as the total sample. A quantitative correlational approach was employed, with data collected through a *nahwu* comprehension test and an *insya’* writing test. The instruments underwent validity and reliability testing, yielding a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.918, which indicates a very high level of consistency. Following a series of statistical tests including normality (Shapiro-Wilk), linearity, and Spearman Rank correlation it was found that the relationship between *nahwu* comprehension and *insya’* ability is positive and significant, with a correlation coefficient of 0.505 (sig. 0.023 < 0.05). This relationship falls into the moderate category, implying that *nahwu* is not the sole determinant of the quality of students' writing. The coefficient of determination indicates that *nahwu* contributes 34.8%, while the remaining 65.2% is influenced by other factors such as vocabulary mastery, writing habits, and learning motivation. These findings underscore the need to balance *nahwu* instruction with consistent writing practice, ensuring that students not only understand the rules theoretically but are also capable of applying them in actual Arabic language usage.

Abstract

Educational supervision plays an important role in improving the quality of learning in schools. Effective supervision enables teachers to enhance their pedagogical competence and improve classroom instructional practices. However, in practice, the implementation of academic supervision often encounters various challenges related to management, teacher readiness, and the follow-up process after supervision activities. This study aims to analyze the problems of educational supervision in improving the quality of learning at SDN 001/XI Sungai Penuh and to identify strategies for strengthening academic supervision in elementary schools. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the school principal and teachers. The data analysis technique used an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that academic supervision contributes significantly to improving the quality of learning through the enhancement of teachers’ pedagogical competence, the development of innovative teaching practices, and the strengthening of teachers’ professional reflection. However, several challenges remain, including limited supervision time, high administrative workloads for teachers and principals, varying levels of teacher readiness, perceptions of supervision as merely evaluative, and the lack of structured follow-up programs after supervision activities. Therefore, this study recommends the implementation of collaborative supervision, strengthening teacher learning communities, and utilizing technology in the supervision process to enhance the effectiveness of educational supervision in elementary schools.

Abstract

Domestic Violence (DV) remains a serious social issue in Indonesia, with most cases occurring within households and marital relationships. As the institution responsible for marriage affairs, the Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama/KUA) plays a strategic role in preventing domestic violence through the Premarital Guidance Program (Bimbingan Perkawinan/Bimwin) for prospective brides and grooms. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Premarital Guidance Program at the KUA of Taman Sari District and to analyze its role in preventing domestic violence. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Primary data were obtained through interviews with Bimwin officers, while secondary data were collected from laws and regulations, books, and scientific journals. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the Premarital Guidance Program at the KUA of Taman Sari District has been implemented in accordance with the applicable regulations and serves as a preventive effort against domestic violence by equipping prospective couples with healthy communication skills, conflict resolution strategies, and an understanding of the rights and obligations of spouses. Post-marital conflicts are addressed through mediation by BP4, while domestic violence cases are referred to formal legal procedures. However, the program continues to face challenges due to limited funding and time allocation. Therefore, greater budgetary support and post-marital guidance are recommended to enhance the program's effectiveness in preventing domestic violence.
