Abstract

Cultural literacy among elementary school students still needs to be strengthened, as the teaching of cultural diversity in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject is generally still dominated by verbal delivery of content and has not been supported by interactive learning media that are contextual to local wisdom. This study aims to develop the Monopoli Edukatif Kearifan Lokal Jawa Barat learning medium, and to examine its feasibility, user responses, and effectiveness in improving the cultural literacy of fourth-grade elementary school students. The study used the Design and Development (D&D) Type 1 method by Richey and Klein with a One-Group Pretest–Posttest design. Participants consisted of 24 fourth-grade students and one classroom teacher at SDN Sukamenak 03, while the feasibility of the medium was assessed by a material expert, a media expert, and a language expert. Qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, and quantitative data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and N-Gain calculation. The results showed that the medium obtained an average validation percentage of 93.53%, categorized as very feasible. Teacher and student responses were also highly positive, at 100% and 94.9% respectively. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000), and the N-Gain value of 0.7046 fell into the high category. This improvement was reflected across all cultural literacy indicators, namely cultural awareness, awareness of history and its impact, and tolerance. The Monopoli Edukatif Kearifan Lokal Jawa Barat medium is thus considered feasible, was very well received, and effectively improved the cultural literacy of fourth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Theory and textbook-oriented learning often results in meaningless learning experiences and fails to develop students’ critical thinking skills with regard to social issues. Contextual learning is expected to help students understand the purpose of learning and relate it to everyday life. This study aims to analyze the implementation of contemporary issues in IPAS teaching within the Merdeka Curriculum at primary school. The research takes a qualitative approach, emphasizing an in-depth understanding of teachers’ experiences, opinions, and practices in classroom learning activities. The findings reveal that teachers have integrated contemporary issues into teaching module development, the learning process, media, and contextual problem-based discussion activities relevant to students’ daily lives, Contemporary issues were integrated through PBL, utilizing video and online news, as well as discussion and direct observation activities in the community. This approach made students more active and enthusiastic learners who were better able to understand the material because it was relevant to their real-life experiences. Furthermore, integrating contemporary issues was proven to enhance students critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and social awareness.

Abstract

With the KM Ciremai, PT PELNI is one of Indonesia's main service providers for sea transportation, which is crucial for the country's people movement due to its archipelagic nature. Dissatisfaction with the service quality is shown by passenger complaints about cleanliness, timeliness, and comfort. In order to determine which aspects of service have the most impact on how customers see the KM Ciremai, this research will examine how service quality affects customer satisfaction. The researchers in this study used a descriptive correlational methodology with a quantitative approach. In order to gather primary data, 375 passengers on the KM Ciremai route between Jakarta and Jayapura were given a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire. Data gathering methods included a questionnaire as well as non-participatory observation to document crew conduct and the state of on-board amenities. There is a very substantial association (r=0.890) between service quality and passenger happiness, according to the study's results. The study found that the three most important characteristics affecting passenger evaluations were responsiveness, cleanliness, and dependability. The study's findings back up the idea that crew service quality consistency is the main factor determining customer happiness. Hence, for long-term success, management should focus on quality improvement to keep passengers loyal and trusting.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of understanding regarding fictional stories among fifth-grade elementary school students, as well as the limited use of engaging and interactive teaching materials. A needs analysis at SDN Duren Sawit 02 revealed that students still struggled to comprehend the content and intrinsic elements of fictional stories. This study aimed to develop a scaffolding-based e-module to enhance fifth-grade students understanding of fictional stories. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model. The development process encompassed expert validation, user trials, and an effectiveness test utilizing a one-group pre-test post-test design. The results indicated that the scaffolding-based e-module achieved a feasibility score of 97.70%, placing it in the highly feasible category according to expert validation. Practicality test results showed a score of 92.32% in the limited trial, rising to 97.02% in the field trial; both figures fall into the highly practical category. Effectiveness test results demonstrated an increase in the average student score from 65 on the pre-test to 86 on the post-test, with an N-Gain score of 0.60, falling within the moderate category. Consequently, the developed scaffolding-based e-module is deemed feasible, practical, and effective for improving fifth-grade elementary students understanding of fictional stories.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the principal's leadership on teacher discipline at SMA Negeri 1 Tobadak, Central Mamuju Regency. The background of this study is the finding of several discipline problems among teachers, such as late arrival to class and incomplete preparation of learning tools, which are presumed to be related to the effectiveness of the principal's leadership. This study used a quantitative associative approach involving 35 teachers as respondents, determined through a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire for the leadership variable (X) and the teacher discipline variable (Y), which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using classical assumption tests (normality and linearity) and simple linear regression with the help of SPSS. The results show that the data are normally distributed and linear, with the regression equation Y = 52.080 + 0.411X. The t-test shows t-count (2.474) > t-table (2.035) with a significance value of 0.019 < 0.05, indicating that the principal's leadership has a positive and significant effect on teacher discipline. The coefficient of determination shows that the principal's leadership explains 15.6% of the variance in teacher discipline, while the remaining 84.4% is influenced by other factors outside this study

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of scouting activities in developing the disciplinary character of students at SMP Negeri 2 Parigi, Parigi Moutong Regency, Indonesia. The study is motivated by the importance of character education, particularly discipline, in shaping students' attitudes, behaviors, and sense of responsibility both in the school environment and in their daily lives. Scouting is considered one of the most effective extracurricular activities for instilling disciplinary values through structured, continuous, and character-oriented programs. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research participants consisted of the school principal, scout leaders, and students who actively participated in scouting activities at SMP Negeri 2 Parigi. The findings reveal that scouting activities play a significant role in fostering students' disciplinary character. Disciplinary values are developed through regular training sessions, marching drills, flag ceremonies, camping activities, educational games, and group-based tasks that emphasize punctuality, responsibility, cooperation, and adherence to rules. The successful implementation of scouting activities is supported by the commitment of the school principal, the competence of scout leaders, parental support, and the availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure. However, several challenges remain, including limited facilities, insufficient training time, budget constraints, and the low level of discipline awareness among some students. The study concludes that scouting activities are an effective strategy for strengthening discipline-based character education in schools. Therefore, sustained commitment from all stakeholders is essential to optimize scouting programs as an integral component of students' character development.

Abstract

The development of modernization and globalization has caused changes in mindsets and shifts in cultural values in people's lives, including among the Toba Batak people who live in diaspora. This phenomenon can affect the sustainability of the process of inheriting cultural values contained in the Dalihan Na Tolu philosophy to the younger generation. This study aims to examine the character values contained in Dalihan Na Tolu and describe the forms of application and various challenges faced by the Toba Batak people in Jambi City in maintaining these values. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive case study approach. Research informants were determined through a purposive sampling technique involving traditional figures, traditional leaders, parents, and the younger generation of the Toba Batak community. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model. The results of the study indicate that the Dalihan Na Tolu philosophy contains five main character values, namely religious, nationalist, independent, mutual cooperation, and integrity. These values are still manifested in various traditional activities, family life, and social relationships in the community. However, preservation efforts face a number of challenges, such as the declining interest of the younger generation in traditional culture and the increasing influence of digital technology and foreign cultures.
