Abstract

Stunting is one of the issues that is being focused on by the government. The problem of stunting is a concern and also handled collaboratively with various stakeholder elements. The issue of stunting needs to be introduced to individuals from an early age or before pre-marital age. However, the reality in the field is that there are still many teenagers who do not have sufficient knowledge regarding stunting. This research aims to see the level of students' understanding about stunting. This research uses a quantitative approach, specifically using a survey method. Data sources were obtained from primary sources and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and also using different tests. The research results show that students' level of understanding about stunting is at a medium level. And the results of different tests to see whether there are differences in the level of understanding between male and female students show trends that are almost the same or there are no significant differences. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as a basis for related parties in formulating policies to intervene in stunting prevalence.

Abstract

Optimal nutrition significantly impacts human health, particularly for primary school-aged children. Malnutrition manifests in various health issues, such as stunting, underweight, micronutrient deficiencies, and obesity. The prevalence of malnutrition among school-aged children in Indonesia, including Batam City, is rising yearly. This study aimed to analyse factors affecting the nutritional needs of elementary school children in Batam City. The study was conducted over one month and employed a qualitative approach. Participants included 39 respondents: 13 children, 11 parents, 5 peers, 5 teachers, and 5 school health centre officers, selected purposively. Data collection used open-ended responses through in-depth interviews. Findings revealed limited knowledge among children about balanced nutrition. All informants emphasized the importance of consuming diverse foods to meet nutritional needs, with children showing a positive attitude toward trying various foods. The respondents also highlighted the importance of avoiding impulsive snacking. Moreover, the study identified a positive relationship between physical activity and cognitive focus in learning, underscoring the need for regular physical activity. Programs addressing the specific nutritional challenges faced by children in Batam could enhance awareness and encourage healthy eating habits among elementary students.

Abstract

Heavy metal lead (Pb) is a type of metal that can negatively impact both the environment and human health. With a melting point of 327.5ºC, lead is a naturally occurring element in the Earth's crust. Lead can enter the human body through various means, including water, soil, and air. Inhalation is one of the primary routes of lead exposure. Lead levels in the body can be assessed through blood, bones, hair, and nails. Additionally, smoking habits can influence blood lead levels, as cigarette smoke contains small amounts of lead. This study aims to examine the relationship between blood lead levels and smoking habits among retail gasoline sellers. A descriptive-analytical research approach was employed, using a cross-sectional design and purposive sampling technique. The study subjects comprised retail gasoline sellers in Batu Ampar sub-district, Balikpapan City, who met the inclusion criteria. Blood samples were analyzed using the ICP-OES method at the Labkesda DKI Jakarta. Data analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Spearman test. The results from 20 respondents indicated no statistically significant relationship between blood lead levels and smoking habits among retail gasoline sellers in Batu Ampar sub-district, Balikpapan City (correlation value = 0.115, p-value = 0.628). The highest recorded blood lead level among daily smokers was 8.634 µg/dL, while the lowest was <0.228 µg/dL.

Abstract

Stunting is a major global health issue, particularly in Indonesia, where malnutrition rates remain high. Poor childhood nutrition affects growth, cognition, and long-term health. Moringa oleifera is a nutrient-rich herbal supplement, but its nutritional composition varies by geography, potentially influencing its effectiveness in stunting interventions. Objective: To identify the best Moringa leaf source for extract production to support weight and height improvement in stunted children. Method: A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted using Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and PubMed (2014–2024). From 70 initially identified articles, 6 were selected using the PICOS method, focusing on Moringa supplementation, malnourished children, and growth outcomes. Results: Highland Moringa contains higher vitamin C and flavonoid levels, while lowland Moringa offers greater biomass for large-scale production. Studies confirm that dried Moringa extract significantly improves weight gain (p = 0.002), though its effects on height and inflammation reduction were less pronounced. Conclusion: Dried Moringa extract shows promise for weight gain and nutrition enhancement in stunted children. However, geographical factors influence its nutrient content, requiring further research to standardize formulations, optimize dosages, and assess long-term effects in human trials.

Abstract

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) is currently indicated for patients experiencing acute coronary syndrome and individuals with chronic stable angina that is refractory to optimal medical therapy. Advancements in devices, stent design, adjunctive technology, and the development of more potent and effective antiplatelet therapies have contributed to improved outcomes. However, major periprocedural complications during PCI remain a concern, with an overall transulnar access site complication rate of 41%, a vasospasm incidence of 7%, and a hematoma occurrence of 29%. Cold compress application is widely used due to its physiological effects, including vasoconstriction, reduced tissue metabolism, increased blood viscosity, and local anesthetic properties. Cold compresses can decrease blood flow and capillary permeability by inducing arteriolar vasoconstriction, thereby reducing bleeding. Objective: This study aims to examine the implementation of cold compress therapy in preventing hematoma in post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) patients. Methods: This study employs a systematic literature review approach. Data synthesis was conducted by analyzing eight studies that met quality assessment standards and inclusion-exclusion criteria. The databases used for literature retrieval included Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, EBSCO, and ProQuest. The findings were processed and presented in tabular form.Result: Cold compresses can help reduce hematoma and pain after a Percutaneous coronary Intervention (PCI), cold compresses can also help prevent hematomas. How cold compresses help cold compresses vasoconstrict blood vessels and cold compresses speed up blood clotting. Conclusion: The reviewed articles indicate that the application of an ice pack or cold compress is more effective in reducing pain and preventing hematoma caused by catheter removal in patients undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI).

Abstract

Stimulation, Detection, and Early Intervention for Child Development (SDIDTK) is one of the activities for monitoring the growth and development of toddlers aged 0-72 months to detect any developmental deviations in children of this age group. If deviations are found, early intervention is conducted as a corrective measure to restore normal growth and development or prevent further worsening of the deviation. The purpose of this study is to explain the impact of providing Off the Job Training (OJT) on SDIDTK for toddlers on increasing the knowledge of healthcare workers in the Nelle Health Center work area. This research is quantitative in nature. The study design is a quasi-experimental approach with a One-group Pretest-posttest Design. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Sampling was done using purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 30 respondents. The results of the study showed that before the OJT was given, the level of knowledge among healthcare workers was at a moderate level (56.7%) and low (43.3%). After the OJT was provided, there was an improvement, with good knowledge (70%) and moderate knowledge (30%). Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that there is an impact of off the job training on SDIDTK for toddlers on increasing the knowledge of healthcare workers in the Nelle Health Center work area. It is recommended that healthcare workers who have not yet participated in the training should seek opportunities to do so through various sources, while those who have already participated in SDIDTK training should implement it in accordance with the knowledge they have acquired.
