Abstract

The development of genetic research in humans provides new hope for a better quality of life. One of the studies can reveal the molecular mechanism of a disease, the direction of prevention, and its treatment. Online and offline newspapers are one alternative publication for a wider audience. The purpose of this research is to see how the results of genetic research in humans are constructed in media discourse, both in the form of news, features, and news articles. The ideological content will be explored through an analysis of rhetorical elements in news discourse. This research is a qualitative content analysis, using the discourse analysis method. The unit of analysis is news texts about human genetic research published in 5 online newspapers with the highest readers in the period January - December 2024. Reduction was carried out to obtain relevant news samples. The research results show that the results of human genetic research are discussed in health and lifestyle themes with informative and advocative purposes. The news conveys the latest research results, while also providing recommendations for healthy living at the individual level without a complete explanation in a broader social context. Based on the analysis of rhetorical elements, such presentation indicates the existence of a certain ideology at play in the construction of discourse.

Abstract

Trichomonas vaginalis infection remains one of the most common non-viral sexually transmitted infections (STIs) globally, despite being one of the most easily treatable STIs. This study aims to determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with trichomoniasis among HIV-positive women in Sragen Regency. A total of 30 HIV-diagnosed women from the Sehat Panghuripan Sukowati Foundation in Sragen, aged 15–49 years, participated in this study. Respondents completed a questionnaire and underwent urinalysis at Prodia Medical Laboratory, Sragen. The presence of Trichomonas vaginalis infection was evaluated using a wet mount microscopic method. Clinical features were collected through structured questionnaires administered to each participant. Result: The findings revealed the prevalence of Trichomoniasis among HIV-positive women, indicating that Trichomoniasis can increase HIV viral load in vaginal fluid, potentially heightening the risk of HIV transmission. The study demonstrated a higher infection rate in women with a history of sexually transmitted infections (HIV), particularly those over 30 years of age. Most participants were housewives with a single sexual partner, reported no vaginal discharge complaints, but had experienced abnormal vaginal secretions in the past. The recorded prevalence of Trichomoniasis in this study was 10% (3 out of 30 samples)

Abstract

Carbonated soft drinks are drinks that can cause damage to the liver if consumed excessively. The combination of honey and black cumin as an antioxidant agent has hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects with a capacity of 3-4 times compared to honey or black cumin seeds alone. The aim of this research was to determine the effect on macroscopic and microscopic observations of the liver of Rattus norvegicus given a combination of honey and black cumin in graded doses, namely concentrations of 25%, 50% and 75% after being induced by soft drinks and the damage that occurred when given in doses and the specified time. This research was carried out experimentally at the Cytohistotechnology Laboratory Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kesehatan Nasional. The research was divided into 6 groups, namely 3 control groups and 3 treatment groups. The results of macroscopic observations showed differences in colour, size, fatty and similarities in liver texture. The results of microscopic observations showed normal cells and damage such as hydropic degeneration, parenchymatous degeneration, pyknosis necrosis, karyorrhexic necrosis, and karyolysis necrosis. The results of the test using One Way ANOVA and followed by Post Hoc Duncan can be concluded that giving a combination of honey and 75% black cumin as much as 2 mL/200 gr weight of rats can have a protective effect on macroscopic and microscopic examination of the liver of Rattus norvegicus after being induced by soft drinks.
