Abstract

The larynx is an organ that has a central role in coordinating the functions of the upper respiratory tract including respiration, speaking and swallowing. The larynx is divided into the supraglottis, glottis and subglottis. Laryngeal tumors are divided into 2 there are benign tumors where the most common is laryngeal papilloma and malignant tumors of the larynx which the most common is squamous cell carcinoma. Cases of laryngeal carcinoma often have complications of airway obstruction and require early and emergency treatment. Laryngeal obstruction requires special attention because the larynx is a narrow area of the upper airway. This study is a case report that observed patients with laryngeal tumors from before surgery to after surgery. The aim of this study was to determine the results of tracheostomy treatment in patients with laryngeal tumors. Airway obstruction can create shortness of breath due to airway obstruction which can be total or partial. This case report discusses Mr. S is 44 years old who has complained of shortness of breath since 3 days before entering the hospital. The patient also complained of a hoarse voice, sore throat, and a feeling of something being stuck since 7 months ago. The patient has also been an active smoker since he was 15 years old and has been drinking alcohol. The patient was finally diagnosed with well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx with OSNA grade III based on anamnesis, physical examination, and investigations. The patient underwent a tracheostomy to resolve airway obstruction and a microlaryngeal biopsy to confirm the diagnosis of carcinoma. After obtaining the results of the patient's anatomic pathology that the patient had laryngeal carcinoma, the action taken was a total laryngectomy.

Abstract

Kendal Regency emerges as a significant stunting hotspot, reporting 5,017 at-risk toddlers for stunting in 2021. Parental comprehension of stunting and caregiving practices in toddler nutrition are crucial predisposing factors. This study investigates parental knowledge and caregiving patterns regarding stunted toddlers in Kendal. Employing purposive sampling, 165 parents (mothers/fathers) were selected. Through a knowledge and caregiving pattern questionnaire, findings reveal parents' moderate awareness of toddler stunting; 77.6% display satisfactory understanding, while 22.4% demonstrate limited awareness. Analysis of caregiving patterns indicates that 57% of parents adopt appropriate nutritional caregiving, 27.9% exhibit insufficiencies, and 15.2% follow commendable practices. These results underscore the need to enhance parental understanding of stunting and improve nutritional caregiving for stunted children. It is recommended that parents of stunted toddlers actively seek information on stunting management and attentively address nutritional requirements, particularly fat intake, for severely underweight children.

Abstract

Hypertension is the leading cause of death in the 21st century when systolic and diastolic blood pressure increases. Prevention of complications due to hypertension can be done by monitoring blood pressure. Smartwatch innovations are helpful in the health sector for monitoring blood pressure, which can be used as an initial screening for people. In addition to monitoring blood pressure, nonpharmacological therapy is one of the management of hypertension. A combination of progressive muscle relaxation and isometric exercise in hypertensive patients can help lower blood pressure by relaxing muscles. Objective: This research aims to determine the effectiveness of smartwatches in generating hypertension alarms and the effectiveness of pmr-isometric as therapy in lowering blood pressure. This research used a quick experiment with one group pre-post test design. The respondents were recruited by purposive sampling method for 16 hypertensive people. The inclusion criteria in this study are respondents aged 35-65 years, have good hemodynamic status to be able to do therapeutic exercises, can speak Indonesian, and do not have vision and hearing problems. Exclusion criteria were respondents who had advanced complications of hypertension, such as heart disease, stroke, paralysis, and immobilization. The intervention was given once for 20 minutes using a YouTube video connected to smartwatch and a demonstration followed by the respondent. The pre-test value was measured from the respondent's blood pressure 5 minutes before the intervention, while the post-test value was taken after 5 minutes. Data were analyzed by paired sample t-test. The results showed that the smartwatch alarm detector could detect blood pressure, and there was an effect of applying a combination of progressive muscle relaxation and isometric exercise on the blood pressure values of hypertensive patients with a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05). Smartwatch has proven effective as an early screening for hypertension and a combination of progressive muscle relaxation and isometric exercise, which effectively lower blood pressure in people with hypertension.
