Abstract

Unpredictable weather conditions during the traditional drying process pose a challenge to shallot farmers in the Rejeki Lancar farmer group in Karanganyar Adipala village in reducing yield losses. Adequate water content is essential for maintaining the quality of shallots ready for sale and storage. Therefore, a drying technology capable of maintaining and improving shallot quality is needed through the use of an electric drying machine. The community service project was implemented using the community-based research (CBR) method with a participatory approach by the farmer groups. The  activity stages included observation and discussion, tool design and construction, tool testing and calibration, training and mentoring, and evaluation. The implemented drying machine can dry shallots in 21 hours, whis typically takes 7-9 days. This community service activity increased farmers knowledge and skills in shallot drying technology by 15,71 %. In addition to shortening the drying process, the electric-powered drying machine produces a more uniform moisture content, resulting in improved and more consistent shallot quality. The implementation of this technology is expected to reduce postharvest losses and enhance the competitiveness and sustainable income of shallot farmers.

Abstract

Organik waste management is a major challenge in developing ecotourism in Pamboborang Village, Majene Regency, West Sulawesi. This community service activity aimed to empower the local community, particularly the blacksmith group, through training in simple composter construction to support sustainable organik waste management. The applied methods included a one-day intensive workshop, one-month post-training mentoring, and pre-test and post-test evaluations using structured questionnaires. The training involved constructing composters using two lidded buckets, perforated PVC pipes, and a leachate tap. The results indicated a 70% increase in participants’ knowledge, with the highest improvement (40%) in technical aspects of composter making. Post-training monitoring showed that 80% of participants continued to use the composters after three months. This activity provided environmental benefits through a 40% reduction in organik waste and socio-economic benefits by increasing awareness of cleanliness and promoting compost utilization for local agriculture. The novelty of this program lies in its integration of technical training with a community-based mentoring system, which enhances the sustainability of ecotourism development in Pamboborang.

Abstract

Kutawaru Village is a coastal village in Cilacap Regency with significant potential for local food innovation based on mangrove resources. The Kutawaru Independent Community Group (MAMAKU) had not previously utilized mangrove fruits, particularly Rhizophora mucronata, as food products. This community empowerment program was conducted through socialization and hands-on training on processing mangrove fruits into flour and derivative products such as cookies. The program applied an Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, focusing on local natural assets in the form of Rhizophora mucronata mangrove vegetation surrounding the partner area. The results showed an increase in community empowerment, reflected in improved knowledge and practical skills in mangrove fruit processing. Participants’ understanding increased from 38.5% with no understanding, 53.8% with limited understanding, and 7.7%  with sufficient understanding to 100% of participants being able to understand and independently practice mangrove fruit processing.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology compels educational institutions to optimize digital media-based promotional strategies to enhance the visibility and competitiveness of schools. In a specific context, SMKS Wikrama 1 Garut faces challenges in the form of limited human resources, variations in digital literacy, and the absence of a consistent and  structured digital marketing strategy. Although many studies emphasize the role of digital marketing in educational institutions, there is still a knowledge gap that includes a lack of integration of technology adoption theory, utilization of internal resources, and long-term relationship strategies in the context of vocational schools in rural areas. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis to explore the current conditions and strategies for optimizing digital marketing in schools. The results of the study show that the use of platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube is still sporadic, lacks data-driven approaches, and does not optimally showcase the school's vocational identity and narrative; content management is influenced by low perceptions of ease of use, limited strategic resources, and the absence of an editorial calendar; while the use of short videos and storytelling has been proven to generate the highest engagement but has not been implemented consistently. The analysis also identified that school websites have not been optimized through SEO, and collaboration with alumni and industry has not been maximized as strategic content. This research implicitly emphasizes the necessity of a theory-based digital marketing strategy, utilizing data and internal resources to enhance promotion while simultaneously establishing sustainable institutional networks.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology has transformed traditional gambling activities—such as poker, casinos, mahjong, sports betting, cockfighting, dice games, lottery, and numbers gambling—into increasingly popular online practices. Although often perceived as entertainment, online gambling has significant negative impacts on social life. Addressing this issue requires collaboration among various stakeholders, including educational institutions that play a vital role in promoting media and financial literacy. The Faculty of Communication Sciences at Gunadarma University has taken part through the SMILE (School of Media Literacy) program, which focuses on financial literacy education. This program is implemented through counseling, mentoring, and training using presentations, interactive media, and focus group discussions. The results indicate an improvement in community understanding of healthy financial management. Nevertheless,  such educational efforts should not be one-time initiatives but rather continuous activities in order to build a society that is financially literate, independent, and resilient against the negative impacts of online gambling.

Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to enhance the production capacity of red bricks at UMKM Putra Mandiri, located in Mulyadadi Village, Cipari District, Cilacap Regency, through the implementation of a red brick extruder machine. The partner’s main issue was the manual production process, which limited production capacity and resulted in inconsistent brick quality. The program activities included field observations, partner discussions, training sessions, and mentoring on machine operation and maintenance. The results showed that using the extruder machine significantly increased production capacity from 100 pcs/hour to 750 pcs/hour, indicating a 750% improvement compared to manual methods. Furthermore, the  produced bricks demonstrated better uniformity, density, and strength, while reducing production time and labor intensity. The adoption of this appropriate technology not only improved productivity and competitiveness but also strengthened the partner’s independence in business operations. The implication of this activity is that technological transfer through community service programs can provide sustainable impacts on local economic development by promoting innovation, efficiency, and self-reliance among small enterprises.

Abstract

Village empowerment is a strategic effort as the current development paradigm emphasizes that development begins in villages. The existence of village funds and greater autonomy encourages villages to develop themselves through various creative strategies, one of which is the village tourism concept. Near the Guci hot spring tourist area in Tegal Regency, there is the Cempaka Village Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), which develops traditional culinary tourism through Pasar Slumpring. An initial survey identified several issues that need to be addressed, namely the limited variety of traditional culinary attractions offered, stagnant visitor numbers, and the claim of a traditional-based tourism concept that has not yet significantly contributed to the preservation of local culture. As a solution to these problems, this partnership community service program aims to provide advocacy and capacity strengthening for the Cempaka Village Pokdarwis to innovate in order to increase tourist visits while contributing to the preservation of local cultural heritage through the diversification of tourism attractions based on folk games. The community service activities were carried out using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach and an Educational Conservation Training Program on Traditional Games as Experience-Based Tourism Attractions, integrating several activities: (1) Folk Games Clinic; (2) Arrangement of Folk Games Zones; and (3) Trial implementation of folk games tourism attractions with visitors. The results of community service activities show that the approach to developing a tourist village that combines cultural-based tourism with digital marketing strategies has significant potential in increasing the attractiveness, differentiation, and sustainability of Slumpring Market as a local culture-based tourist destination.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in strengthening the local economy of Sunyalangu Village, Karanglewas District, Banyumas Regency. However, most MSMEs still face limitations in utilizing digital technology, particularly in marketing, business administration, and transaction management. This community service activity, titled "Building Resilient MSMEs in the Digital Economy 5.0 Era," aims to improve  digital literacy and technology-based business management skills among MSMEs. This program was implemented using a gradual training, mentoring, and counseling approach from October to November 2025. A total of 30 MSMEs participated in the activities, which included digital literacy counseling, digital marketing training through social media and marketplaces, and assistance in creating online store accounts and digital-based administration systems. The results of the activity showed that most participants successfully established active marketplace accounts and began implementing online marketing strategies, which have resulted in an expanded market reach and increased business operational efficiency. However, limited internet infrastructure and the availability of digital devices remain obstacles to optimizing technology utilization. Overall, this activity has had a positive impact on changing the business behavior of MSMEs and strengthening their business independence and resilience in the face of the digital economy's development.

Abstract

The lanting home industry in Cilacap Regency plays an important role in supporting the local economy. However, the predominantly manual production process places workers at risk of musculoskeletal disorders due to non-ergonomic working postures. This community service program aimed to improve occupational health among lanting workers through ergonomic education and the implementation of healthy work practices. The activity was conducted at one lanting home industry in Cilacap Regency and involved 30 workers. Evaluation was carried out using pre–post tests to assess changes in knowledge levels, complemented by observations of work behavior at the production site. The results showed a significant increase in workers’ knowledge, indicated by an increase in the proportion of workers in the high-knowledge category from 10% before the intervention to 73% after the intervention. Workers began to adopt better working postures, perform light stretching during work breaks, and demonstrated collective awareness by reminding each other to maintain proper working positions. The program proved to be effective, affordable, and easy to implement in improving awareness and healthy work behaviors in small-scale lanting home industries. This activity has the potential to be further developed as a simple ergonomic intervention model for similar traditional food industries.

Abstract

This community service program was initiated in response to the stagnation of tourist visits to Pasar Slumpring and the limited digital competence of the local tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis) in utilizing social media as a promotional tool. The program aims to strengthen the community’s digital economy through the development of food  vlogging content as a medium for promoting traditional culinary tourism. The implementation employed a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, involving community members in planning, training, content production, and evaluation. The program included a social media workshop, food vlogging training, and digital promotion assistance. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in participants’ digital literacy, with the average score increasing from 44.25 (pre-test) to 80.75 (post-test), indicating an 82.4% enhancement. The food vlogging content produced successfully reached a wide audience, achieving 31,000 views on Instagram and 386,000 views on TikTok. The impact is further reflected in the rise in tourist visits, from 1,217 visitors in August to 1,826 in September (an increase of 50.04%), and continued to grow to 58.25% by November. This program has proven effective in enhancing the digital capacity of Pokdarwis and strengthening digital economy–based promotional strategies. Therefore, the initiative contributes to the development of traditional culinary tourism and supports the achievement of SDGs 8, 9, and 11 on decent work, industrial innovation, and sustainable communities.
