Abstract

Introduction: The tobacco production process has a negative health impact on tobacco workers. Every day, tobacco farmers who plant, process, and harvest can absorb as much nicotine as the amount of nicotine found in 50 cigarettes. Therefore, tobacco farmers are at risk of acute nicotine poisoning known as Green Tobacco Sickness (GTS). The aim of the study was to determine the effect of educational videos on increasing tobacco farmers’ knowledge of first aid for GTS in Kedungadem Village, Kedungadem District, Bojonegoro Regency. Method. This research used pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design. The population was 129 tobacco farmers. The sample was 97 tobacco farmers who were recruited by cluster random sampling. The data were obtained by a questionnaire and analyzed by paired t-test (α≤0.05). Result. The results showed that 63 farmers (64.5%) had a low level of knowledge before educational videos were played and increased to 84.5% after the videos were played. The results of the paired t-test indicated that there was an effect of educational videos on tobacco farmers’ knowledge of first aid for GTS (P = 0.000). Conclusion. Health education using videos can increase tobacco farmers' knowledge about first aid for GTS. Videos can be used as alternative media for providing health education to the community. Further researchers can provide a control group and/or using a different method.

Abstract

Introduction: Globally, higher education institutions are faced with training nursing students to meet the healthcare demands of an ever-changing society. In nursing education, innovative ways are essential to instil professionalism among nursing students to prepare them for managing complex practice issues without compromising the professional standards of nursing. This paper concentrates on developing a conceptual framework, for the facilitation of professionalism among undergraduate nursing students at a higher education institution in South Africa. Methods: This study was a constructive paradigm research with qualitative descriptive approach. Data was collected by focus group interviews with participants (three cases). Different phases were followed in the framework development using the case method. In Case 1, focus groups (n=8) were held with student nurses from each of the levels of a four-year degree program (n=42). In Case 2, focus groups (n=3) and unstructured interviews (n=1) were conducted with purposively selected nurse educators (n=20), representing academics and clinical facilitators. Case 3 comprised of semi-structured individual interviews (n=5) and focus groups (n=5), a total of 29 preceptors in professional practice. An analysis of a within-case followed by cross-case data analysis, resulted in merged themes of three cases that emerged as an overall case study. Results: Actual accounts of the participants` experiences on nursing professionalism during theory and practice education were captured in the six concepts of the Practice Orientated Theory that structured the developed framework. Conclusion: A logical methodological description of creating a framework on nursing professionalism was outlined and the conceptual framework can be evaluated for transferability to other similar nursing education training environments.

Abstract

Background: Enteral intolerance in premature infants is associated with several morbidities, especially in very low birth weight (VLBW). There are only a few dietary practices to provide better outcomes in newborns with VLBW. This study aimed to assess the factors associated with the time to achieve full enteral feeding (FEF) in infants with VLBW. Methods: This was a retrospective study on infants with VLBW in the Neonatology Unit of Sanglah Central General Hospital, Bali from November 2020 to January 2022. The infants started trophic feeding with breastmilk and or formula milk. The age of FEF was determined when the target of 150 ml/kgBW/day was reached. The association of risk factors was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test, the Kruskal-Wallis test, and linear regression analysis. Results: A total of 79 VLBW infants with a median gestational age of 30 weeks (25-38) were recruited. The median age of FEF was achieved in 9(7-15) days. Late trophic feeding (more than 24 hours), severe asphyxia, culture positive-sepsis, and using a mechanical ventilator were associated with a longer timing of FEF. While in the multivariate analysis, small for gestational age (SGA), late trophic feeding, severe asphyxia, absence of prenatal dexamethasone, and culture-positive sepsis were independent factors for longer FEF in this population. Conclusion: In VLBW infants, the age of FEF in our population was reached in 2 weeks. Small for gestational age, late trophic feeding, severe asphyxia, prenatal dexamethasone coverage, and culture-positive sepsis were associated with delay in FEF. Further studies of multi-centers and analyzing the factors of delayed TF might be needed.

Abstract

Introduction: The coverage of the Covid-19 vaccination for the elderly in Indonesia is low, even though the elderly is a vulnerable group to the severity of Covid-19 infection and is the main focus for increasing their immunity. One of the efforts to increase interest, perception, and implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination in the elderly is by providing education through Javanese-language videos. This study aimed to determine the effect of educational videos with Javanese language on the perception, interest, and implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination in the elderly. Method: The research used a pre-experimental design with one group pre-post test. The population were 182 elderly. The samples of this research were 125 elderly who had not been vaccinated and selected using the cluster random sampling. This research was conducted in Karangdayu Village, Baureno District, Bojonegoro Regency from March to June 2023. The intervention was in the form of playing educational videos with Javanese language about Covid-19. The data were taken through a questionnaire, and then analyzed using the Wilcoxon and McNemar tests (α ≤0.05). Result: The results showed that there was an effect on changes in the perceptions and interests of the elderly in Karangdayu Village, Baureno District, Bojonegoro Regency after being given educational videos about Covid-19 vaccination (p=0.001). Educational videos are effective in increasing the perception and interest of the elderly for the Covid-19 vaccination, and statistically affecting the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination in the elderly. However, descriptively, providing educational videos in Javanese language has not been able to maximize the number of elderly people to administer the Covid-19 vaccine. It is necessary to study in more depth about the factors that affect the implementation of Covid-19 vaccinations in the elderly besides interests and perceptions.

Abstract

Introductioin : Intradialytic complications are still being debated among health workers in the Hemodialysis Unit in Hospitals, many factors can cause patients to experience complications during dialysis. This study aims to identify the factors that contribute to the incidence of intradialytic complications in order to minimize the incidence of complications. Methode : This study used a research design in the form of analytic descriptive with cross-sectional. The sampling technique was a consecutive sampling of 120 patients. The chi-square statistical test aims to examine differences in proportions. If the results of the bivariate test have p < 0.25, then these variables can be included in the multivariate model using multiple logistic regression analysis. Result : Candidate selection results, Hb (0,014), Fluid Compliance (0,221), Venous Access (0,236), IDWG (0,023), and Comorbid (0,006) have a p value less than 0.25. In the multivariate test obtained Comorbid (0,007; OR:2.361 ), IDWG (0,049;OR:-1,894), and Hb (0,047;OR: 0,922), it can be concluded that these three factors have a significant influence on the occurrence of intradialytic complications. The proportion of intradialytic problems that can be described by 5 variables, namely venous access, comorbidities, IDWG, HB, and adherence, is 24%, with the remaining 18% explained by other factors. Conclusion : Comorbid, interdialytic weight gain, and hemoglobin goal accomplishment all have a significant role in the occurrence of intradialytic complication. The findings of this study can be utilized to raise awareness of intradialytic consequences. This vulnerable population need effective management to manage the problems they are experiencing.
