Abstract

The massive use of social media among young Indonesians has influenced the development of the Indonesian language, particularly in terms of rapid and often unnoticed changes and shifts in word meaning. This study aims to identify the factors driving changes and semantic shifts in language among young users, identify the use of slang and language variations that emerge in adolescent communication on social media, and analyze the influence of social media language use on everyday Indonesian language use. This study employed a quantitative method with data collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 159 respondents under the age of 21 who actively use TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter/X. The questionnaire was developed using a four-point Likert scale and multiple-choice questions. The collected data were then analyzed descriptively in the form of frequency and percentage. The results show that 87.4% of respondents frequently use viral terms from social media; 79.2% are aware of semantic shifts in those words; TikTok was the most influential platform shaping respondents' language style (84.9%); mixed Indonesian-foreign language dominated digital communication (86.2%); and viral content (66%) and peer influence (60.4%) were the main factors driving language change. It is concluded that social media serves as a significant agent of semantic change in the Indonesian language and potentially weakens the formal language proficiency of younger generations if not accompanied by proper and sustainable language development efforts.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of gender injustice and the response and resistance of character Erna in the novel Mecaki Katresnan ing Satengahe Perang Politik by Tulus Setiyadi. A descriptive qualitative approach with feminist literary criticism was employed. Data comprising narrative quotations and dialogues were collected through reading, note-taking, and literature study, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. Data validity was ensured through observational persistence, theory triangulation, and reference adequacy. Two main findings emerged: (1) the impacts of gender injustice experienced by Erna include deep psychological trauma from repeated sexual violence, internalization of stigma as a ruined woman embedded in the victim's self-concept, and social isolation due to absent support from family, law, and community; (2) Erna's resistance develops progressively from verbal resistance through threats of public exposure against Rafa, an active decision to leave home rejecting patriarchal construction, to a resolve to expose corrupt politicians as a transformation of trauma into collective political consciousness. This reflects the emergence of female agency, shifting the character from an object of oppression to a subject who reclaims her life narrative. This research contributes to feminist literary criticism in modern Javanese literature and is relevant for gender justice-based character education in secondary schools.

Abstract

The growing global concern over environmental issues requires higher education institutions not only to develop students’ academic competencies but also to foster ecological literacy. However, academic writing instruction in universities often remains theoretical and insufficiently connected to real-world contexts. This study aims to integrate environmental issues as a strategy to strengthen students’ ecological literacy through academic writing instruction using a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach. The study employed a qualitative approach involving students from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education program at a private university in Central Java who were enrolled in an academic writing course. Data were collected through classroom observations, student response questionnaires, and interviews with lecturers and students. The findings reveal that integrating ecological literacy into academic writing through project-based activities enriches the learning context and encourages students to explore environmental issues as the basis for their academic writing. The learning model also increases student engagement in the learning process, strengthens critical thinking skills, and supports the production of more contextual and research-based academic texts. In addition, the integration of ecological themes contributes to enhancing students’ ecological awareness of environmental issues. Therefore, this approach has the potential to serve as an alternative pedagogical strategy for developing more contextual and sustainability-oriented academic writing instruction. Keywords: ecological literacy, writing strategy, project-based learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of struggle to achieve individual superiority in the novel Kokokan Mencari Arumbawangi by Cyntha Hariadi based on Alfred Adler's individual psychology theory. This study uses a qualitative method with a literary psychology approach that utilizes Alfred Adler's theory. The research data are in the form of quotations containing aspects of individual superiority in the novel Kokokan Mencari Arumbawangi collected through reading and note-taking techniques. The analysis techniques used include data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the characters in the novel experience feelings of inferiority or low self-esteem influenced by various complex social pressures. These feelings of inferiority encourage the emergence of various forms of compensation to overcome self-limitations. In addition, the characters in the novel show a drive to achieve individual superiority to maintain something they have. The findings of this study indicate that the drive for individual superiority in the novel Kokokan Mencari Arumbawangi by Cyntha Hariadi is represented through four aspects, namely optimism, independence, fighting spirit, and self-compensation. These four aspects show that the characters in the novel constantly strive to overcome obstacles and inferiority through various efforts.

Abstract

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia is vested with an absolute mandate as the final interpreter of the constitution, whose decisions are final and binding erga omnes. In exercising this authority, the Court faces a doctrinal dilemma between judicial activism—which fosters progressive interpretation to realize substantive justice—and judicial restraint, which emphasizes adherence to the literal text and respect for the separation of powers. This article aims to analyze the theoretical foundation of constitutional textual interpretation and to identify the forms and implications of judicial activism within the judgments of the Indonesian Constitutional Court. The research methodology employed is a literature review with a normative qualitative approach, utilizing primary and secondary legal materials analyzed through descriptive-analytical methods. The research findings indicate that the Indonesian Constitutional Court has undergone a dynamic paradigm shift from judicial restraint toward a highly progressive judicial activism, even acting as a positive legislator by creating new, regulatory legal norms. Several landmark judgments, such as Decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023 concerning the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Decision Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 concerning the nomination threshold for regional heads, and Decision Number 62/PUU-XXII/2024 concerning the presidential threshold, demonstrate the presence of judicial overreach, jurisprudential inconsistency, and infringement upon the boundaries of open legal policy (open legislative policy). The implications of this judicial activism include structural tensions with the legislature that trigger constitutional non-compliance, the threat of juristocracy or the shifting of mega-political issues to the courtroom. This article recommends the necessity of a simultaneous reconstruction at three levels: namely, the textual level through the formulation of guidelines on the limits of judgments; the institutional level through the strengthening of judicial ethics and an interpretation methodology based on proportionality; and the ecological level through the formalization of inter-institutional constitutional dialogue and the enactment of an independent Bill on the Procedural Law of the Constitutional Court with binding executorial deadlines.
