Abstract

Oral language skills in early childhood play a crucial role in children's cognitive, social, and emotional development. This study aims to develop an innovative, child-centered picture story media closely related to the early childhood environment. The research focuses on developing picture story media incorporating disaster mitigation content to enhance oral language skills in young children. The research method used is Research and Development (RnD) with the ADDIE model. For the feasibility test, the study involved seven experts: two early childhood education (ECE) content experts, two environmental content experts, two media experts, and one language expert. The research sample consisted of 137 children, including 19 children in the small group trial, 95 children in the large group trial, and 23 children in the effectiveness test. The findings reveal that: (1) based on the preliminary study, children's oral language skills need improvement; (2) teachers require the development of instructional media applicable to enhancing oral language skills in early childhood; (3) the development of picture story media follows the ADDIE instructional media development model; (4) the picture story media model is suitable for enhancing oral language skills in early childhood; and (5) interactive picture story media is effective in improving children's oral language skills, as they demonstrate significant progress in pronunciation, vocabulary expansion, sentence formation, and self-expression. Through the integration of disaster mitigation content in interactive picture story media, strategies to improve oral language skills in early childhood become more diverse and contribute to raising children's awareness of their immediate environmental characteristics.

Abstract

Reading habits are an important activity for adolescents, but reading practices that do not pay attention to ergonomic aspects can affect posture quality. This study aims to analyze the relationship between reading habits and the posture of high school students. The research design used is descriptive analytical with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 36 high school students aged 15–16 years old from Surakarta who were selected purposively. Data on reading habits, including duration, frequency, position, lighting, and media, were collected through questionnaires, while posture was assessed using the New York Posture Rating Scale (NYPRS). Descriptive analysis was used to describe the distribution of data and the relationship between variables. The results showed that most students read using gadgets (61.1%) while sitting on a chair (33.3%) or lying down (33.3%). The average posture score was 82.63, which was categorized as fairly good. However, lying down and lying on the stomach, as well as dim lighting, were associated with lower posture scores. These findings confirm that non-ergonomic reading habits can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders in adolescents. The implication of this study is the importance of reading ergonomics education for students, teachers, and parents, as well as improving learning facilities that support healthy posture to prevent musculoskeletal problems from an early age. Keywords: Reading habits, Body posture, Adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the acrostic technique in learning to write geguritan (Javanese-language poetry) through a literature review approach. Writing geguritan is an essential part of Javanese language learning, which not only aims to improve language skills but also to preserve local cultural values that are increasingly eroded by the passage of time. In practice, many students face difficulties in writing geguritan, particularly in selecting appropriate diction, understanding traditional poetic structures, and using proper and accurate krama (formal) Javanese. The acrostic technique, which has previously been widely used in learning to write poetry in Indonesian, is believed to be a viable alternative solution to address these challenges. This technique helps students express their ideas in a structured manner by using the initial letters of each line as a guide, making the writing process easier and more directed. This study analyzes seven previous studies that employed the acrostic technique in teaching poetry writing, both in the context of the Indonesian and Javanese languages. The results show that the acrostic technique is effective in enhancing students' poetry writing skills across various educational levels, fostering creativity, increasing learning motivation, and assisting students in composing poems systematically and meaningfully.
