Abstract

Four-wheeled and two-wheeled motorized vehicles are a very important and inherent need for human life, this is very important because it makes it easier for humans to reach where they want to go. This has also contributed to the development of automotive shops in the city of Medan and in its surroundings, because this sector has a clear investment value. This is supported by the statement of the Ministry of Industry in 2021, where the investment value in the automotive industry will reach around IDR 99.16 trillion for four-wheeled vehicles and around IDR 10.05 trillion for two-wheeled vehicles. In 2020, there will be 232,259 two-wheeled motorized vehicles and 42,397 four-wheeled vehicles. This is what underlies the need for an automotive center in the city of Medan with the aim of providing convenience for the people in the city of Medan and even around it in obtaining everything related to the automotive by considering efficiency and comfort. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of implementing the Settlement Environmental Management Plan Document (RPLP) in strengthening community capacity in the KOTAKU Program for environmentally sustainable development. The KOTAKU program is a government initiative that aims to improve access and quality of urban settlements, with a focus on slum settlements. RPLP is a planning document that provides guidance in structuring an integrated, sustainable and participatory settlement environment. This research uses a qualitative method by conducting case studies at several locations that have implemented RPLP in the KOTAKU Program. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with various stakeholders, including local communities, local governments and other relevant institutions. The analysis is carried out by identifying changes that have occurred in community capacity after the implementation of the RPLP, including increased knowledge, skills, and participation in decision-making related to the settlement environment. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the RPLP in the KOTAKU Program has a positive impact on strengthening community capacity. Community participation in planning and decision-making processes increases, resulting in a better and more sustainable living environment. Communities also acquire new knowledge and skills in managing the residential environment, such as waste management, energy saving and utilization of local resources. This research makes an important contribution in understanding the importance of implementing RPLP in environmental sustainable development. The recommendations resulting from this research can be used by local governments and other related institutions to increase the effectiveness of the KOTAKU Program and strengthen the community's role in environmentally sustainable development.

Abstract

Residence or housing is one of the basic needs of humans. Each individual has different housing needs based on their social, economic, and cultural aspects. This diversity requires housing design solutions with various design variations that can meet the residents' needs. Vertical housing has become one answer to fulfilling housing needs, but the quality of life in vertical housing is often considered worse compared to conventional housing. Currently, the constructed vertical housing buildings lack high spatial flexibility, as they typically have fixed forms and limited living space that restricts the flexibility for occupants. Commercial vertical housing with the application of modular architecture and prefabrication is one approach that can provide a solution to dynamic living needs quickly and responsively to the environmental typology, while also providing open spaces for residents to enhance their quality of life.

Abstract

Universitas Sumatera Utara Kuwala Bekala does not have student dormitory facilities, which is the main reason for this project. The application of modern architecture in dormitory buildings is designed with a more minimalist impression and still has the aesthetics of the beauty of the modern building. Modern architecture uses the concept of "forms follow function" by eliminating elements of ornamentation in buildings. The application of modern architecture in buildings is an adequate and practical approach in the form of a dormitory building. The methodology is mix method, namely, primary data from observations in the field at the design site and secondary data derived from informational data (literature) obtained from internet data sources such as journals, articles, and data in book references. This student dormitory research is expected to provide data for designing a building that can meet the needs of students on campus activities and students' daily lives and give comfort to its users.

Abstract

In big cities, the construction of residential neighborhoods is mostly done to meet the needs for housing. But often this development isn’t matched by the need for public and social facilities. Markets are included in public and social facilities that are rarely built in the environment, especially traditional markets. The existence of traditional markets is rarely found as a result of the development of modernization. However, several settlements still provide traditional markets as a facility in a settlement, one of which is in a modern settlement. This study aims to find out some modern or highclass settlements that still maintain traditional markets as public and social facilities. The research was conducted in two markets with different environments but still in the same circle, it’s Citraland Fresh Market in Surabaya and Batunanggal Market in Bandung. Both are traditional markets packed in modern buildings. Data collection techniques using qualitative methods in the form of observation, documentation, and existing journals. Conclusions are written based on direct observation by the author and the results of the data analysis that has been collected.

Abstract

Culture, region, and climate are three fundamental aspects that influence vernacular architecture. As the largest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia is rich in diversity of vernacular architecture, originating from different cultural backgrounds and natural characteristics. It is interesting to examine whether significant similarities or differences are reflected in two vernacular houses formed from other cultures, regions, and topographies, even though they have the same function: residence. In this research, architectural comparisons were made between Sundanese traditional houses with the natural character of the mountains in West Java and Banjar traditional houses in the coastal region of South Kalimantan. Data was obtained through the literature review and then analyzed using Bentley's theory of three aspects — functional-constructional, environmental, and socio-cultural; as well as seven criteria — permeability, variety, readability, robustness, visual suitability, richness, and personalization. The research results show that the differences between these two vernacular architectures are visible from the use of materials and the type of foundation used. Apart from that, an interesting fact was discovered that even though both of them have different cultures and regions, the shape of the roof, the position of openings such as windows and doors, and the location of the buildings in the same housing complex, these two vernacular architectures have similarities. It is analyzed that this is the response of both communities that is reflected in each of their vernacular architecture to the environment in the same climate, namely the tropical climate.

Abstract

City parks are places that support physical and social activities/discussions for all levels of society. Therefore, city park infrastructure needs to be accessible independently, even without the help of others. This research is located in Tirto Agung Park which is located in a mix-use area (education, housing, trade) so that park users come from various levels of society both in terms of age and competence. The method used in this study is qualitative with literature studies, and field observations were carried out to assess the availability and suitability of Tirto Agung Park infrastructure with the principles of universal design and the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works Number 14 of 2017 concerning Building Ease Requirements. The results of the analysis showed that Tirto Agung Park has shortcomings in providing facilities for users, especially people with disabilities, such as ramps (low physical effort), guiding blocks (simple and intuitive use), hand rails (equitable use), zebra crossings (tolerance for error) and wayfinding/signage (perceptible information). The recommendation in this study is to add, improve and maintain park facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

Tegal Sari Mandala III in the Medan Denai District is a residential area characterized by poor sanitation and a high risk of flooding, making it a mild slum. To prevent slum conditions from becoming normalized in Indonesian society, it is essential to address and eliminate such settlements. Each location presents unique challenges and requires tailored solutions to tackle slum issues effectively. This research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, which are suitable for examining slum areas. The analysis reveals that the primary problems include poor environmental maintenance, such as garbage accumulation and improper waste management, leading to flooding, polluted rivers, and foul-smelling surroundings. Solutions to these issues include developing and enhancing the settlement quality by establishing a night market and creating green spaces along the banks of the Sulang Saling River.
