Abstract

This study focuses on four Quranic manuscripts located in Gogodalem. According to local beliefs, the manuscripts were written by Mbah Jamaluddin. However, preliminary study shows that the four manuscripts cannot be attributed to Mbah Jamaluddin. The use of manuscript paper that is not found chain line along the vertical line of the paper indicates that the manuscript came from the early 19th century. In addition, the existing style of authorship also indicates that all manuscripts were written by more than one person. Through codicological and historical approaches, this study seeks to provide a historical interpretation of Gogodalem’s manuscripts. The result found that the four manuscripts had a relationship with the Surakarta Palace. This interpretation is based on the use of the manuscript paper, the illumination model, and the historical relationships it has. Meanwhile, the description of the manuscript shows that the rasm used is a mixture of usmani and imla̅'i̅, and followed qiraat of Imam Hafṣ. It used also a simple and inconspicuous model of floral illumination.

Abstract

This paper analyzes nine tafsīr tarbawiy (Quranic educational interpretation) literatures in Indonesia from Ricoeur’s hermeneutics perspective. There are two main research findings. First, as objective pole, tafsīr tarbawiy terminology meaning structure as Qur’anic educational interpretation written by Islamic experts for pragmatic and idealistic purposes. As subjective pole, tafsīr tarbawiy literature discussing Islamic education by quoting educational verses through the thematic interpretation (mauḍūʻī) method using various references, according to the author’s subjectivity. There are strengths and limitations of tafsīr tarbawiy literature. The strength is it opens the way for construction of tafsīr tarbawiy literature which is solutive and realistic. The limitation is its interpretation is ideological and utopian. Second, tafsīr tarbawiy literature is relevant as a source of Islamic education theory and practice since it is prepared for pragmatic purposes as a reference for tafsīr tarbawiy course, written by the Islamic education theorists and practitioners, and contains a thick discussion on issues of Islamic education, though the quality and validity are graded, based on the competence level which is the author’s appropriation.

Abstract

This study examines the vernacularization of tafsir Ᾱyāt aṣ-Ṣiyām by M. Basiuni Imran which has not been done by many researchers. This type of research is library research with the primary data of manuscript tafsir Ᾱyāt aṣ-Ṣiyām by M. Basiuni Imran. The analytical model used is a narrative analysis and by using the concept of vernacularization. The conclusion of this article shows that vernacularization is not only a process of translating from Arabic to a local language but there are elements of locality that are accommodated in the translation process. The form of vernacularization is divided into two, namely: 1) vernacularization in the form of diction and language; 2) vernacularization in the form of narrative or interpretation content. Likewise in the tafsir Ᾱyāt aṣ-Ṣiyām , the form of vernacularization in the interpretation belongs to the vernacularization of diction or language, namely the use of the words Uwas (remember), Tembawang (a former farming hut), and Sungai (a description of the reality of West Kalimantan).

Abstract

The new media revolution has knocked down religious institutions. Digitization of manuscripts, apart from the positive effect being interactive, is also in the form of impersonalization of the negative effects, resulting in emergency breaking conditions for children to recite the Qur'an. However, in the midst of the siege of the revolution, four districts in Madura demonstrated the resilience of the Hataman Qur'an tradition and became agents of Islamic moderation reasoning. This research will answer two main issues; First, the argument for the resilience of the Hataman Qur'an tradition in Madura. Second, the model of Islamic moderation reasoning agency in the Hataman Qur'an tradition in Madura. This research is a field research work that focuses on kiai langgar, santri, guardians of santri and the community as the subject. While the object is the Hataman Qur'an tradition in Madura. Using the theory of resilience and moderation reasoning, as well as a critical discourse analysis knife, this paper produces conclusions; First, the resilience of the Hataman Qur'an tradition in Madura is due to three factors (a) social capital, the capability of the Madurese who uphold social values (b) community competencies, the character of the Madurese who like to work together and collaborate with others and (c) social connections, the implementation of Hataman Qur'an using a network with family as social bonding; balater and skipper as social bridging and kiai or politician as social lingking. Second, the reasoning agency of Islamic moderation in the Hataman Qur'an in Madura can be found in the implementation of Aparloh, Entar Nyalase and Jheren Kencak.

Abstract

This article aims to discover the concept of environmental ethics in the book Tafsir Pelestarian Lingkungan Hidup compiled by the Team of Lajnah Pentashihan Al-Qur’an, Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. The article is a qualitative research with descriptive-analytical method. This article uses the theory of environmental ethics developed by Sonny Keraf as the basis for the analysis. This study shows that the interpretation of Tim Lajnah Pentashihan Al-Qur’an on environmental issues in Tafsir Pelestarian Lingkungan Hidup tends to put the basis of life to include all elements of nature, both human and others. Conservation of mountains, seas, water, animals and plants cannot be ignored just for the human necessity only. In exploring nature, humans are bound by the ethics that have been stipulated in the Qur'an, including learning from every natural disaster, not being excessive and extravagant, and a healthy life style. This paper shows that the environmental ethics discussed in Tafsir Pelestarian Lingkungan Hidup is tend towards an intermediate environmental ethic that is biocentric, strikethrough a view that makes all elements in the natural ecosystem as the basis of life.

Abstract

Abstract

The Youtube social media platform has given birth to a new form of Qur'anic exegesis, which is known as the Youtube interpretation. KH. Ahmad Baha'uddin Nursalim (Gus Baha') can be called a Youtube mufasir because his name has become increasingly known since the video of the recitation of his commentary that was uploaded by his lovers (muhibbin) on the Youtube channel. Among the videos of these commentary lectures, Gus Baha's commentary on who can be called a follower of Prophet Isa based on surah Ali 'Imran/3: 55 is interesting and important to study because Gus Baha' rejects the interpretation contained in the book of Jalalain commentary. This analytical descriptive research is virtual ethnographic in nature, so the data comes from the online environment, namely recordings of Gus Baha's interpretation of recitations uploaded on the Youtube channel. Then the data was analyzed. it was found that Gus Baha' rejected the mainstream interpretation in society that Christians are followers of the prophet Isa. This rejection was based on the deviation they did.

Abstract

This paper observes how the field of tafsir studies has continued to establish itself as an important discipline within Islamic studies in Western academia. It traces how the previous scholarship, which was more preoccupied with Qur’anic studies, has shifted attention to Qur’an commentaries rather than exclusively to the Qur’anic text. Although not an exhaustive survey of all Western works devoted to tafsir literature as it excludes studies on modern tafsir, this paper confirms the significance of the classical and, more importantly, medieval tafsir tradition as a lens through which Islamic intellectual history can be approached. By surveying bibliographical data produced in the past few decades, this article has found that Sunni and mystical Qur’an commentaries have received greater scholarly investigation, that tafsir historians’ works have transformed traditional views on the history of tafsir, and that although the field of tafsir studies is still intimately connected with Qur’anic studies, some current publications testify that it might become an independent study.

Abstract

This article outlines several main ideas underlying Walid Saleh's works from 2004 to the present, including the genealogical nature of tafsir materials and the dichotomy of medieval tafsir books into encyclopaedic and Madrasa categories. The article reveals the grand goal of Saleh's scholarship, which is redirecting the intellectual history of tafsir that has been - according to him - covered by an intellectual movement that adores Ibn Taymiyyah and his radical hermeneutic. By evaluating Saleh's articles and books, this article concludes that his ideas are very relevant to be studied in the PTAI curricula, especially developing the major of Qur'an and Tafsir sciences, so that the study of medieval tafsir finds its way back to the Indonesian academic context after being neglected for a period of time.

Abstract

This study intends to study the factors that led to the standardization of mushaf rasm of the Indonesian Usmani Standard Qur’an to the narrations of Abu ‘Amr ‘Usman ad-Dani. This standard is available in a brief description (at-ta'rif bi al-mushaf ) on the back page of the mushaf of the Qur’an published by the Ministry of Religion for 2020 and 2021 editions. This is the peak of the recognition after the 1974-1983 Ulama Working Conference which had standardized the use of this ad-Dani riwayah rasm for the Indonesian standard manuscripts. This literature review research wants to answer the reasons behind the choice of Dani’s rasm usmani history and to conduct tarjih (triangulation) on it rather than the history of Abu Dawud Sulaiman ibn Najah which is widely used by mushafs from the Middle East. The result of this study found that the affiliation of history to rasm usmani ad-Dani was caused by several factors such as the similarity of the rules of rasm by ad-Dani with conventional Arabic writing, the familiarity of reading tradition of Indonesian people towards mushafs with rasm imla’i, the low level of public knowledge of the use of rasm in writing the Qur’an, and the use of al-Itqan by as-Suyuti as a reference
