Abstract

This research investigates the interpersonal communication strategies employed by prison officers (pamong) in fostering the personality development of terrorism inmates at Gunung Sindur Special Prison. The background of this study highlights the unique challenges faced in rehabilitating terrorism convicts, necessitating effective communication methods tailored to their specific needs. The primary objective is to identify and analyze these communication strategies to enhance the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs. Utilizing a qualitative research method, the study gathers data through direct observations and interviews with involved personnel, providing a comprehensive understanding of the communication dynamics at play. The results indicate that successful communication relies on building trust through simple messages before addressing sensitive topics. However, challenges such as the dual responsibilities of officers, lack of specialized training in psychology, and inadequate security resources hinder the overall effectiveness of the mentoring process. These findings emphasize the need for improved training and resource allocation to enhance rehabilitation efforts. Keywords: Interpersonal Communication; Terrorism Inmates; Rehabilitation Strategies

Abstract

This research focuses on strategies to prevent the smuggling of illegal communication devices through officer discipline at the Women's Correctional Institution Class IIA Jakarta. The background highlights the rising concerns about security and order within correctional facilities due to the illicit use of communication devices by inmates. The study aims to identify effective disciplinary measures and operational protocols that can enhance compliance among officers and inmates. Employing a qualitative research method, data were collected through observations, document analysis, and informal interviews to explore the implementation of preventive strategies. The findings indicate that the institution's strategies include socialization of regulations, strict sanctions for violations, regular inspections, and the promotion of a strong work culture among officers. Despite these efforts, challenges such as inconsistent supervision and low motivation among staff were noted, suggesting the need for continuous improvement in monitoring and staff engagement to enhance the overall effectiveness of the prevention strategies. Abstract

Prisoners with good self-control abilities tend to show positive behavior in prison, while prisoners who are less able to control themselves will experience negative impacts in the form of failure in undergoing the coaching program. The method used in this study is quantitative, with a simple random sample technique of 189 respondents. The data collection technique was carried out using a questionnaire. The results showed that there is an effect of religiosity on prisoners' self-control. The level of influence given by the religiosity variable on prisoners' self-control is 67.5%, while the remaining 32.5% is influenced by other variables not discussed in this study. From these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence with a unidirectional (positive) relationship between religiosity and the self-control of prisoners in the Class IIA Narcotics Prison Gunung Sindur. Abstract

Efforts to eradicate narcotics in Indonesia do not only depend on strict legal regulations against narcotics dealers and dealers, but also involve recovery strategies for addicts, abusers, and victims of narcotics abuse through the implementation of rehabilitation programs. Cooperation between Correctional Institutions and various related agencies, including health institutions and social institutions, is strengthened to design a comprehensive approach. The author uses a descriptive qualitative research design. The results of this research are the implementation of a social rehabilitation model for addicted convicts using a CBT approach in the Class IIA Palembang Women's Prison, a program that has been implemented to fulfill prisoners' rights to receive rehabilitation while serving their criminal term. Drug rehabilitation using the CBT approach is one form of rehabilitation in the Palembang Class IIA Women's Prison where the results of this rehabilitation can reduce addiction and recidivism rates in the Palembang Class IIA Women's Prison itself. Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Lasamba Bakery vocational training program at Class IIA Salemba Correctional Facility, where the goal is to enhance inmate work motivation through bread-making skills training. The program provides inmates with the opportunity to develop practical skills that will be beneficial after their release. The study employs a qualitative method. In its implementation, communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure play crucial roles. Although socialization and communication have been conducted through various channels, including inmate interactions, challenges persist, particularly concerning inmate perceptions of the quantity and price of bread. Other obstacles, such as limited resources and specialized training, also need to be addressed to support the smooth operation of the program. With improved socialization and resource management, the program is expected to continue running effectively and positively impact the inmates' motivation and work skills. Abstract

The role of the Correctional Observer Team (TPP) is very important in providing advice and recommendations related to rehabilitation programs, guidance, and security disturbance prevention to the head of the Technical Implementation Unit, where they are required to deliver measurable and professional recommendations encompassing capabilities, quality, facilities and infrastructure, human resources, information technology, and reliability, while employing qualitative methods through the collection of primary and secondary data via observation, interviews, and document studies. The research findings indicate that TPP officers at the Class IIB Detention Center in Kota Agung exhibit a high level of professionalism, reflected in the recommendations made regarding disciplinary actions. Although they adhere to existing standards and consider the six dimensions of professionalism, there are challenges such as limited hearing rooms for disciplinary processes and a lack of components within the Correctional Observer Team Keywords: Professionalism; Correctional Observation Team; Disciplinary Punishment

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using the fingerprint system for residential room roll call in the Prisoner Block at the Class IIA Sidoharjo Penitentiary, which is designed to improve the security of the prisoner block, avoid head swapping between prisoners, and assist officers in accelerating the implementation of the inmate roll call. This study uses a qualitative method with an observation approach, document study, and in-depth interviews with the head of the prison security unit, head of the security squad, prison security unit staff, members of the guard squad, and two prisoners. The results of this study indicate that the fingerprint system is generally effective in identifying prisoners and accelerating the implementation of the residential room roll call. The time required for the residential room roll call was significantly reduced, and the incidents of illegal room transfers decreased. However, there are still some technical obstacles that cause identification failures and a lack of machines, so that use is still uneven. In addition, this system is considered less responsive to the increase in the number of prisoners and still requires routine maintenance. From an innovation perspective, the fingerprint system was well received by officers and management because it provided significant relative advantages over manual methods. Although the system was initially considered complicated, after training, officers were able to operate it well. The success of the system was also easily observed through increased inmate compliance with roll call rules and decreased incidents of violations. Abstract

Human resources are an important asset in correctional institutions, where correctional institutions play a role ranging from providing security to guiding prisoners. However, the training received, especially by new employees, is still very minimal, resulting in skill degradation and less than optimal guidance. This study aims to identify the current skills and skill needs so that any lack of skills is identified in new employees. The study used a qualitative method by conducting interviews with 8 new employees recruited in 2019 and 2021 and the Head of Administration, and by conducting document studies. This study uses the Training Needs Analysis theory by conducting organizational analysis, task analysis, and individual analysis. The results of this study can illustrate that new employees still do not have the skills needed to carry out their duties as correctional officers. This is due to the lack of training received by new employees. So, several organizational goals have not been optimally implemented. Therefore, new employees need to get training according to their fields so that they can carry out their duties optimally and organizational goals can be achieved optimally. Abstract

Sexual deviant behavior often occurs in prisons and detention centers in Indonesia. This occurs due to several factors, such as limited fulfillment of sexual needs, psychological pressure, hierarchy between prisoners, and overcrowding conditions. Labuhan Deli Class I Detention Center experiences significant overcrowding with 1525 residents for a capacity of 500 people, which has the potential to trigger sexually deviant behavior. The purpose of this study is to determine the form of sexual deviant behavior of male inmates at the Class I Labuhan Deli State Detention Center and to determine efforts to control the sexual deviant behavior of male inmates. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, which examines thoroughly and in depth what is being studied using data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation studies. This research uses Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory, which states that sexual needs are basic needs that must be fulfilled by every human being. The results of the study found that there were 6 prisoners involved in sexually deviant behavior in the detention center. The forms of sexual deviant behavior that occur in the Labuhan Deli Class I Detention Center are homosexuality and sexual practices using anal and oral. Factors that cause deviant behavior are the overcrowded conditions of the detention center and the unchanneled sexual needs of prisoners. Therefore, the efforts made to control the sexual deviant behavior of prisoners in the Labuhan Deli Detention Center are with a preemptive strategy, namely separating prisoners involved in sexual deviations and then recording them in the F register book, providing independent services and personality services, and conducting routine HIV screening. Abstract

This study examines the conditions and factors that influence the resilience of elderly prisoners at the Karawang Class IIA Correctional Institution while serving their sentence. Elderly prisoners face a range of challenges, including overcrowded conditions, declining physical health, and psychological distress from loss of freedom and social isolation. Overcrowding, which worsens the quality of care and increases the potential for conflict, exacerbates these problems. Elderly prisoners, who are already vulnerable to physical and mental health problems, must go through phases of grief, acceptance, and resilience. Using a qualitative narrative approach, this study explores how these prisoners endeavor to adapt and overcome their difficulties. Data was collected through interviews with elderly prisoners and Karawang Class IIA prison officers. The research identified key aspects of resilience, such as emotion regulation, impulse control, optimism, and causal analysis. Further findings highlighted the importance of knowing the factors that influence individuals to be resilient, such as self-esteem, social support, spirituality, and positive emotions, in fostering resilience in elderly prisoners. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the factors that help in the process of enhancing resilience and the role of prison rehabilitation programs in improving the well-being of prisoners, especially elderly prisoners.
