Abstract

Acquisition of a second language can be obtained through the influence of the environment or activities carried out continuously. This study will describe how the effect of viewing on social media YouTube affects the acquisition of a second language for a-three-years old and five years old girl. This study aims to analyze the differences between children aged 3 and 5 years in the acquisition of English vocabulary which is influenced by the child's habit of watching English videos on YouTube. This research is using a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique in this research is an interview with children's parents, which is in the form of a conversation between the speaker and the interlocutor where the researcher will ask several questions about vocabulary obtained via YouTube by children aged 3 and 5 years. These habits have an influence on vocabulary acquisition because there are differences in the repetition process of children's viewing. The research found that 3-year-olds can learn many English words and say them naturally by repeating and forming habits. The vocabulary results spoken by the subjects in this study were nouns, verbs, adjectives, phrases and simple sentences. On the other hand, 5-year-olds don't do as well because they watch both English and Indonesian videos, dividing their attention and leading to a lack of understanding and practice.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the strategies used by English teachers to teach reading comprehension and how these strategies are implemented. This study is classified as descriptive qualitative research. The study employed observations, interviews, and documentation as its primary methods. The research's informants were two English teachers. The results showed that the teachers used three different tactics: discussion strategies, question-answer relationships, or QARs, and scaffolding. Scaffolding involves providing support and gradually reducing this support as students become more independent, allowing them to build on their existing knowledge and skills. The QAR strategy, which involves asking questions, answering them, and then reviewing the answers, is particularly effective in deepening understanding and retention of text. Discussion, facilitated by the teacher or in small groups, encourages students to articulate their thoughts and interpretations, fostering a deeper engagement with the material. These strategies, when integrated into reading comprehension instruction, not only support students in developing their reading comprehension skills but also promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of the texts they read.

Abstract

The play titled "The Lesson" by Eugene Eunesco serves as a literary portrayal of inexplicable and jarring modern-day deaths, illustrating the societal complexities, notably poverty-induced suffering and social scorn, that contribute to such tragedies. This analysis, employing library research, delves into the demise of a determined young pupil receiving tutoring from her professor. Initially vibrant and ambitious, she meets an untimely end amid the professor's relentless teaching approach. This narrative unveils the nonsensical realities of contemporary society, where deaths arising from frustration and ridicule prevail. Examples include a student's suicide due to financial constraints and a mother's tragic end alongside her children due to economic strains.
