Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe (1) the ability of student in XI IPA 4 SMAN 1Arga Makmur in 2016/2017 academic year in writing explanation text by using mind mapping technology, (2) the ability to write an explanation text by using a conventional technique in XI IPA 6 SMAN 1 Arga Makmur in 2016/2017 academic year, and (3) the difference of writing ability by using a mind mapping technology and conventional technology on students in XI IPA 4 and XI IPA 6 SMAN 1 ArgaMakmur. The technology of this research was a comparative causal with technique quantitative approach. The data of this research was the explanation text made by students in XI IPA 4 and XI IPA 6 SMAN 1 ArgaMakmur. The data was collected by conducting a writing test on student by writing explanation text based on instrument which has been validated by experts. The technique analysis of student writing ability was done by: 1) writing assessment, 2) prerequisit test, and 3) hypothesis test. The result of writing ability on explanation text by using mind mapping in XI IPA 4 was verry good with the average score was 83.While on the conventional class the average score of student in XI IPA 6 was only 76. The result of t-test hypothesist test was there is a significant different between the ability on student by using mind mapping technology and conventional technology. It showed by tcount > ttable which is, 7.59>1,68 with ? = 0,05. In care the conclution is Ho was rejected and H? was in accepted, so there is a significant different in ability on writing an explanation text by using a mind mapping technology an conventional technology.Keyword: Writing, Mind Mapping, Conventional, ExplanationText

Abstract

The euphemism in texts of different genre is the most focused on this research. Because of nowdays mass media are no longer censor or even selected the material that they served to public although it is too harsh. and The using of euphemism itself are also lower and lower from years to years. Thought there are a few words can’t be spoken cause the words are too taboo to spoken. that’s why the writer choose to analysis this euphemism in different texts. The method of this research used qualitative research to analized the data from written text. The instrument of this thesis was document analysis. The subject of the study were fiction and non-fiction texts (Sir Erich Segal’s novel, Love Story. Short story of Ashley Marks,Eighth Moon. And scientific articles ,Now You See It, Now You Don’t by Paula McGee. Forced Marriage And Health by Asma Ashraf).After collecting the data , the writer finds out only 8 types of euphemism used in the texts above and fiction texts(novel & short story) uses euphemism more than non-fiction text. because it shows the skill and techniques of writing and speaking in literature, while non-fiction texts (scientific articles) only use few of euphemism, because the contain of text talking about science, knowledge, technology and even about reality. So, the words used in scientific articles must clear and show the meaning directly although it is rather harsh. That means for the reader or the audience do not misunderstand the contain of the texts.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk peribahasa Minangkabau, fungsi peribahasa Minangkabau, serta makna peribahasa Minangkabau yang ada di Pasaman Barat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan yang mengandung peribahasa yang diperoleh dari informan yang terdiri atas tokoh masyarakat. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik wawancara, teknik rekam dan terknik catat, serta teknik simak. Langkah-langkah analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah transkripsi data, identifikasi data, klasifikasi data, interpretasi data, dan membuat kesimpulan akhir. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa peribahasa Minangkabau memiliki 8 bentuk peribahasa yaitu (1) kiasan, (2) mamang, (3) pemeo, (4) tamsil, (5) ibarat, (6) kata-kata arif, (7) petatah-petitih, dan (8) perumpamaan. Peribahasa Minangkabau memiliki 5 fungsi  yaitu (1) sebagai media pendidikan dan pedoman tingkah laku, (2) sebagai pengatur aspek-aspek kehidupan bermasyarakat, (3) sebagai sumber hukum, pengasuh pranata sosial, pengawas dan pengukuh norma-norma sosial, (4) sebagai lambang identitas budaya dan sumber informasi budaya, (5) sebagai media serta sarana retorika untuk mematahkan kata-kata lawan bicara (alat pertahanan diri). Peribahasa Minangkabau memiliki 7 makna atau nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam peribahasa Minangkabau yaitu (1) teguh pendirian, (2) malu, (3) nilai etika, (4) tahu diri, (5) menjaga diri, (6) persatuan/mufakat, dan (7) kesabaran.

Abstract

This paper aims to find the conflict that exists in the story of A Misfortune by Anton Chekhov. This research method is descriptive analytical research methods. The data collection technique of this study uses documentary techniques sourced from the stories of A Misfortune by Anton Chekhov. The conflict found by researchers in the form of sentences, phrases and word quotations. Based on the analysis carried out, the researchers also found two types of conflicts, namely people vs. self and people vs. people. The first, the main character who has a conflict with himself such as feelings of doubt, confusion, anger, chaos, sadness, despair, shock, fear, regret, revenge, and annoyance. Second, the main character has problem with other character figures such as quarrels, debates, disagreements, and disputes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dengan menerapkan Sentence Decomposition pada mata kuliah Academic Reading. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menginvestigasi apakah strategi Sentence Decomposition dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam memahami reading text. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada mahasiswa semester III program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Bengkulu yang sedang mengambil mata kuliah Academic Reading. Jumlah peserta dalam penelitian ini adalah 43 orang. Penelitian ini terdiri dari dua siklus dan setiap siklus terdiri dari 3 pertemuan. Fase-fase penelitian meliputi perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes, lembar observasi/ceklis, dan modul. Hasil tes siklus 2 pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa yang memperoleh nilai lebih atau sama dengan 70 meningkat menjadi 86% atau meningkat sebanyak 14% dibandingkan hasil tes siklus 1. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa indikator kesuksesan telah tercapai yang berarti strategi Sentence Decomposition terbukti dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa memahami teks.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan pematuhan prinsip kesantunan berbahasa berdasarkan maksim kebijaksanaan, maksim kedermawanan, maksim penghargaan, maksim kesederhanaan, maksim pemufakatan, dan maksim kesimpatian. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitin ini teknik dokumentasi. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan yang mengandung kesantunan berbahasa yakni maksim kebijaksanaan, maksim kedermawanan, maksim penghargaan, maksim kesederhanaan, maksim pemufakatan, dan maksim kesimpatian dalam acara diskusi ILC di TV One tayang pada tanggal 09 Maret 2019-26 maret 2019. Langkah-langkah analisis data dalam penelitian ini, yaitu: (1) mengidentifikasi data, (2) mengklasifikasikan data dan memberi kode data, (3) menginterpretasi data berdasarkan maksim yang telah ditentukan, (4) menyimpulkan hasil analisis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan pematuhan prinsip kesantunan berbahasa dalam diskusi ILC yakni maksim kebijaksanaan (buatlah kerugian penutur sekecil mungkin dan buatlah keuntungan penutur sebesar mungkin), maksim kedermawanan (penutur harus membut keuntungan diri sendiri sekecil mungkin dan membuat kerugian diri sebesar mungkin), maksim penghargaan (kecamlah orang lain sedikit mungkin; pujilah orang lain sebanyak mungkin), maksim kesederhanaan (pujilah diri sedikit mungkin; kecamlah diri sendiri sebanyak mungkin, maksim pemufakatan (peserta tutur dapat saling membina kecocokan di dalam bertutur), maksim kesimpatian (peserta tutur dapat memaksimalkan sikap simpati)

Abstract

This research concern with the analysis of female character in Lady Eleanore’s Mantle by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The purpose of the research is to describe the female character of Lady Eleanore’s Mantle by Nathaniel Hawthorne short stories by analyzing the main female characters to the development of the plot. This research using two methods, which are qualitative and descriptive. The problem of research is want to desribe the portrayal of female character in Lady Eleanore’s Mantle. The woman is a beautiful, rich, and has high position in her community. Always get more attention and special treatment from other people and make her became to an arrogant girl. At the end, the woman get punishment and died tragically

Abstract

The study aims to figure out the phonological variations of sounds elision realized by Taiwanese university students in pronouncing several English phrases. Eight native Taiwanese students were chosen to support the analysis of the study. They consisted of 8 males and 8 females from the college of humanities and literature of Chung Chen University and from the faculty of foreign languages of Asia University, Taiwan. The study used a descriptive qualitative design. According to Ary, Jacob and Sorensen (2010), qualitative researchers seek to understand a phenomenon by focusing on the total picture rather than breaking it down into variables. The goal is a holistic picture and depth of understanding rather than a numeric analysis of data. After analyzing the data, it was found that the pronunciation of the elision of initial /h/, final /t/ and final /d/ sound realized by the Taiwanese university students were varied. Some still pronounced them and some elided them.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk bahasa disfemia dan fungsi disfemia yang ada pada kolom komentar netizen di Instagram.  Objek penelitian ini adalah disfemia yang terdapat dalam komentar netizen di Instagram @detik.com pada postingannya pada bulan Januari 2019. Datanya berupa kata, frasa, dan ungkapan yang menunjukkan adanya disfemia pada Instagram @detik.com. Sumber data berupa dokumen, yaitu komentar para netizen dalam Instagram @detik.com pada bulan Januari 2019. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah dokumentasi. Dokumentasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah komentar netizen di Instagram @detikcom. Langkah-langkah yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan cara analisis deskriptif. Penelitian ini berusaha menganalisis penggunaan disfemia yang terdapat dalam komentar para netizen di instagram. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. Pertama bentuk kebahasaan disfemia pada kolom komentar netizen di Instagram @detik.com ada tiga, yang berupa kata, frasa, dan ungkapan. Kedua, fungsi disfemia pada komentar netizen di Instagram @detik.com adalah untuk menunjukkan kejengkelan, memberikan tekanan, menegaskan atau menguatkan makna, dan pengungkapan rasa marah atau kesal.

Abstract

The objective of the research are to find the strategies used by teachers in assessing speaking at SMPN 9 Kota Bengkulu. This research was quantitative approach. The subjects were twelve English lesson plans who use at eighth grade. The data were collected from documentation. The results showed that lesson plans were used five strategies from fourteen strategies in assessing speaking namely Oral Presentation, News Event, Roleplay, Discussion & Conversation, and Giving Instruction/Direction. In addition, online lesson plans used two strategies from fourteen strategies and offline lesson plans used four strategies from fourteen strategies. Further, the other nine strategies are not appeared in the class such as Repetition, Directed Response, Read Aloud, Sentence/Dialogue Completion, Question and Answer, Paraphrasing, Interview, Games and Story Telling. It can be happened because the lesson plans applied the strategies based on the students’ material, need, and condition in the meeting.
