Abstract

The high incidence of landslides during the rainy season still occurs frequently. Efforts have been made to increase knowledge about landslide disasters among the public. The use of technology through applications in providing knowledge about landslide disasters generally uses text and images. To address this gap, we developed a new application prototype with disaster knowledge and evacuation route navigation features called LANDIE (Landslide Disaster Education). The method used is quantitative descriptive in the form of mean and standard deviation analysis; descriptive percentage; kolmogorov-smirnov and paired sample t-test. The research results reveal that the LANDIE application prototype is effective in increasing knowledge of landslide disasters. This is supported by the findings that initial knowledge about landslide disasters is at medium criteria, with the application design being suitable for use with revisions, the application is suitable for use as a medium in disaster training, and the LANDIE application prototype is declared effective in increasing knowledge about landslide disasters.

Abstract

Geography learning outcomes need to be measured with an effective instrument to determine the achievement of learning outcomes. This study aims to produce a geographic question model that is developed using a taxonomy of spatial thinking. The research procedure followed the ADDIE model, data were collected through expert validation of the question design and student responses. According to design experts, geography questions can be used to measure geographic knowledge, but a small improvement is needed on the component of spatial thinking, namely the using tools of representation in the form of maps or images with high resolution. The Android application that has been developed is SmartGeography. The geography questions in the SmartGeography application are valid, this can be seen from the score that is 86.63%. In addition, the SmartGeography Android application is effectively used in evaluating geography learning outcomes. This can be seen from the acquisition of a score of 87.83%. Thus, the SmartGeography application is good for people who have an interest in geography education.

Abstract

In Indonesia, research show inadequacy in creative thinking skills among students with only about 2% being proficient in tackling problems of moderate to high difficulty according to TIMSS research. At SMA Negeri 1 Papar, the challenge of low creative thinking skills of students is evident in test results. with an average daily test score of 70 reflecting this concern. Nonetheless, the latent potential to develop creative thinking skills exists within Indonesian students, thus the need to encourage teachers to use appropriate educational strategies. To that end, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model emerged as an appropriate solution to address the shortcomings in students' creative thinking skills. However, little knowledge is available in this important area. This research focuses on assessing the impact of the PBL model on students' creative thinking skills by using a quasi-experimental methodology. The experiment involved students in class XI-IIS 1 (36 students) as the experimental class and XI-IIS 3 (34 students) as the control class in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year at SMA Negeri 1 Papar. Using essay questions as an assessment tool, the data were analyzed using SPSS 23 for Windows through a t-test, with a significance level of 0.05. In particular, a considerable difference was observed between the experimental group using the PBL model and the control group using the conventional approach. The results of the hypothesis test showed a significance level of 0.000, underscoring the potential of the PBL model in fostering higher creative thinking ability among students, as evidenced by its striking difference with a significancethresholdof 0.05. The findings are useful to Educators, teachers, parents and students. The study recommended that PBL can be adopted and used to teach in all subject areas in the currica inorder to help develop the creative thinking skills of students.

Abstract

The existence, ecological thinking, and livelihood of local communities are often ignored in the management of peatlands for economic and protection purposes. This research aims to examine the way of life and ecological thinking of peat communities from a sustainable development perspective. The approach used is qualitative and type of case study research. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The research found that the management of the natural resources of the peat ecosystem is the economic foundation of the community in Jambu Baru Village, which is manifested through various economic activities. The management is carried out to avoid the conversion of the peat ecosystem so that the condition of the peat ecosystem in the Jambu Baru Village area is still maintained and 93.69% of them still have high vegetation. Furthermore, the community moved collectively to reject the expansion of oil palm plantation companies targeting peatlands in Jambu Baru Village. Ecological thinking that exists in society is a manifestation of the sustainable development concept, which carries three dimensions of interest, namely ecological sustainability, social development, and economic development. Communities can realize these three dimensions of interest proportionally, and prove that peatlands are not marginal lands. Simply by managing the sources of life provided by the peat ecosystem with a sustainable approach, quality of life and intergenerational justice can be realized. Thus, strengthening the livelihoods of local communities is an approach that must be promoted to realize sustainable peatland management.

Abstract

Fire disasters still occur frequently so that people are encouraged to have knowledge of preparedness in anticipating fire disasters. However, information about the community's ability to anticipate fire disasters is still very limited. The research objective was to determine community preparedness in facing the threat of fire in Penggilingan Village, Cakung District, East Jakarta. The method used is descriptive research using quantitative data. The study population consisted of all heads of households living in Penggilingan sub-district, totaling 40,641 families, while the sample was part of the heads of families, totaling 125 families. Sampling used proportional random sampling technique. The research variable was community preparedness in facing the threat of fire as measured by 4 parameters from LIPI-UNESCO/ISDR, 2006 namely knowledge and attitude, disaster warning system, emergency response plan, and ability to mobilize resources. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution tables and preparedness indexes. The results showed that the community is prepared to face the threat of fire in Penggilingan Village, Kec. Cakung is categorized as ready with an index value of 79.03. Even though it is in the ready category, it would be better if this preparedness continues to be improved to become very ready. Especially preparedness regarding the disaster warning system and the ability to mobilize resources that still need to be evaluated by the community and stakeholders. As well as fire socialization or training programs should be further intensified so that information about fire disasters can be received by all levels of society.

Abstract

The basic concept material of geography is the first material that must be mastered by high school (SMA) students, but in reality in schools, especially students of SMAN 1 Wongsorejo, students still have difficulty understanding the basic concepts of geography. This research is to describe the difficulties and factors that cause students to have difficulty understanding the material. The research was qualitative in nature with data analysis using the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research subjects consisted of 10 students of class X MIPA/IPS and two geography teachers. Data collection techniques in this study were through observation, interviews, documentation, and recap of students' daily test results. The results showed that SMAN 1 Wongsorejo students experienced difficulties in sub-material concepts, principles, geographic approaches, which were most dominant in principles and geographic approaches. The factors that cause learning difficulties are external factors and internal factors. External factors in the form of learning methods that are less attractive, the teacher does not reflect on learning, the abstract character of basic geography material, high demands for an independent curriculum, teaching materials and media used are less contextual and do not make use of geospatial information. While the internal factors are independence, cooperation, attention, and poor study habits. In improving the quality of learning on these materials, teachers need to conduct classroom action research, carry out peer tutoring, collaborate with colleagues, guidance and counseling teachers, and parents, carry out learning innovations and improve their professionalism

Abstract

Settlements are one of the fundamental necessities of life. The functions of settlements go far beyond just providing a place for rest and shelter. Settlements serve as spaces where social interactions occur, relationships between individuals and groups develop, and community identities are formed. Ngagelrejo is located in the densely populated Wonokromo district of Surabaya, and despite its high population density, it is an area that is in great demand for residential purposes. When considering land ownership status, the entire area consists of land without citizen ownership titles, commonly referred to as "surat ijo" or green certificates. The purpose of this research is to understand the reasons why people choose to reside in densely populated areas. The research methodology employed is a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Triangulation and in-depth interviews were conducted to ensure the validity of the data. The results of the study indicate that the choice of living in a densely populated area is primarily influenced by strong family and friendship bonds. The location of the residence is relatively close to workplaces, providing convenience and compatibility with the surroundings. Additionally, the price of land in this area is lower compared to other areas in the city of Surabaya.
