Abstract

Low understanding among teachers regarding the concepts and benefits of Classroom Action Research (CAR) as a means of professional development is one of the main problems at SD Negeri 2 Labuan. Most teachers are not yet accustomed to systematically reflecting on their teaching practices thru classroom-based research. This resulted in very limited teacher participation in CAR activities, and the learning innovations that were supposed to emerge from this process were also hindered. To address this, the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at Tadulako University conducted a Community Service (PkM) activity to improve teacher competence thru training and the implementation of Classroom Action Research. This activity included training, mentoring in preparing CAR as well as reflection and evaluation. The evaluation results show an 84% increase in teachers' understanding of CAR. Full support from the school and active participation from the teachers also contributed positively to the success of this activity.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in supporting Indonesia’s national economy. However, one of the major challenges for MSMEs—especially ultra-micro businesses—is their low level of financial literacy, which limits access to formal financing. This community service program aims to increase ultra-micro financing literacy among members of Komunitas Sukses Berjamaah Indonesia (KSBI). The program applied a community-based empowerment approach using Participatory Action Research (PAR) and involved 20 ultra-micro entrepreneurs in South Jakarta. Activities included initial observation, Focus Group Discussions, financial literacy training, financing application simulations, technical mentoring, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding from an average of 41.4% to 60.2%, reflecting a 45% improvement. Beyond knowledge gains, the program also facilitated the formation of a community financial literacy team and the emergence of local leaders who play a key role in ensuring program sustainability. These findings demonstrate that community-based financial literacy education can effectively expand access to formal financing for ultra-micro enterprises. Replicating similar programs in other communities has strong potential to strengthen economic independence and promote financial inclusion.

Abstract

The diversity of medicinal plants found in Banyumas Regency has encouraged the Faculty of Pharmacy at Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto to develop medicines from these natural ingredients actively. This is demonstrated through research projects, such as student final assignments, in this field. However, there are still many students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, UMP, who exhibit a gap between their high enthusiasm and limited in-depth knowledge of local medicinal plants, resulting in a weak scientific and cultural basis for their research in their final assignments. This community service activity aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of local medicinal plants, thereby supporting the quality and progress of their final assignments, which included topics related to herbal medicines. The method employed was a knowledge-refreshing program through education and hands-on practice. The activity involved 18 students (14 undergraduate and 4 postgraduate) and was conducted in July 2025. The stages included a pretest, education using leaflets and posters, field plant identification, and a Posttest. The program’s effectiveness was analyzed statistically using a T-test to compare the pretest and Posttest scores. The results indicated a highly significant increase in knowledge. The average Posttest scores (99.3 - 100.0) far exceeded the pretest scores (80.0 - 83.3), with a p-value < 0.05. This proves that the applied educational and practical methods were highly effective. A positive impact of this initiative was observed in the accelerated completion of final projects, where 7 students successfully defended their undergraduate theses with grades of A/A- and 4 other students completed their proposal seminars. In conclusion, this community service significantly improved students’ knowledge of local medicinal plants. The combined approach of visual education and field-based identification practice proved effective in equipping students with a solid understanding of their research subjects, which ultimately contributed directly to the timely and quality completion of their final assignments.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in Indonesia’s national economy, particularly in job creation and income distribution. However, most MSME actors still face challenges in financial management due to limited basic accounting knowledge and the lack of adoption of digital financial tools. This Community Service (PkM) program aims to enhance the financial literacy and basic accounting skills of members of the Komunitas Sukses Berjamaah Indonesia (KSBI) through a practical-based training approach. The activity was conducted on November 30, 2024, by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Trisakti, involving 20 participants engaged in culinary, fashion, and printing businesses. The methods used included interactive lectures, group discussions, and hands-on practice in preparing simple cash-based financial statements. The effectiveness of the training was evaluated through pre- and post-tests consisting of ten questions covering five key aspects of accounting understanding. The results indicated a significant improvement, with the average score increasing from 41.25 in the pre-test to 87.75 in the post-test, representing a 112.7% improvement. Participants also demonstrated behavioral changes toward more disciplined financial recording and showed interest in adopting digital accounting applications. This program proved effective in improving financial literacy and professionalism among MSME actors and serves as a sustainable model for capacity building to strengthen the competitiveness of small and micro enterprises.

Abstract

The rooster farming business in Geddongnge Village, Parepare City, holds significant economic potential, yet its growth is hampered by reliance on traditional coops and minimal monitoring management, frequently leading to high livestock mortality rates. This community engagement program zeroes in on boosting farmer productivity through innovative technology. The primary goal is to revitalize coops with a durable, modern, healthy design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system. We employed a participatory approach, which included socialization, comprehensive training, technology implementation, and ongoing mentorship. The practical solutions involved constructing galvanized iron coops with thermal insulation, installing cross-ventilation with an exhaust fan, and setting up temperature/humidity sensors and CCTV. The results demonstrate a potential for reduced livestock mortality, evidenced by the visibly healthier and improved condition of the roosters, marked by increased responsiveness and activity according to partner reports. This program successfully establishes an efficient and sustainable farming model.

Abstract

This community service program addresses the issue of low visual competitiveness among MSME products, particularly those produced by members of the Komunitas Sukses Berjamaah Indonesia (KSBI), who are predominantly homemakers engaged in culinary and fashion businesses. The focus of the activity is to strengthen product design and branding capacity, enabling MSME actors to develop attractive and consistent brand identities in the era of digital marketing. The program aims to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in understanding branding concepts, designing logos, packaging, and visual promotional content, while also fostering confidence and collaborative learning within the community. The activities were conducted using the Participatory Action Learning System (PALS) approach through participatory planning, a one-day training session, hands-on practice using Canva and Pixellab, and pre-test and post-test evaluations. The results show an average knowledge improvement of 42 points, participants successfully produced various visual designs, and a new community structure—the “KSBI Mini Creative Team”—was formed as a platform for sustaining branding assistance within the community.

Abstract

The main problems faced by the community partners, namely the PKK members who run micro-businesses in Padukuhan Pringwulung, Sleman, are the lack of financial budgeting systems, inadequate financial records, and inability to calculate Cost of Goods Sold (COGS). This community service aims to enhance their skills in preparing budgets, maintaining simple bookkeeping, and calculating COGS independently. The methods used include socialization, counseling, workshops, and hands-on practical sessions using case studies tailored to participants’ business types. A total of 80 participants were actively involved in the initial training, followed by mentoring through site visits and an online communication group. Evaluation was conducted through pre–post tests, practice observation, and satisfaction questionnaires. The results indicate improvement in hardskills: 80% of participants can calculate COGS, and 70% record transactions consistently for at least three weeks. Softskills also improved, including increased awareness of financial management and entrepreneurial motivation. This program positively impacts the economic capacity of families through better administrative practices.
