Abstract

Background: The low levels of students' critical thinking skills and science process skills in diffusion and osmosis material remain a problem in biology learning. This study aims to develop a student worksheet based on the vee diagram to improve students’ critical thinking and science process skills. Methods: The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. The subjects were 11th-grade science students at MA Nurul Huda Munjul, consisting of 25 students in the experimental class and 25 in the control class. Instruments included multiple-choice tests, observation sheets, and questionnaires. Data were analyzed using N-gain and t-tests. Results: The developed student worksheet was valid (97.02%) and effectively implemented (90%). Students' critical thinking skills increased with an N-Gain of 0.41 (moderate), compared to 0.05 (low) in the control class. Science process skills also improved to 81.75% (high), outperforming the control class (53.63%). The correlation between critical thinking and science process skills was not significant (r = 0.298 < r table = 0.396; sig. = 0.149). Students’ responses to the student worksheet were in the very good category (85.33%). Conclusion: Thus, the development of vee diagram-based student worksheets on diffusion and osmosis material can enchance student’s critical thinking and science process skills.

Abstract

Background: The weakness in students’ critical thinking skills is reflected in their tendency to passively accept information without considering broader aspects, such as scientific issues and religious values. Furthermore, the application of biotechnology often triggers controversy within society, highlighting the urgent need for strong scientific literacy skills. One contributing factor to this issue is the limited availability of teaching materials that integrate socio-scientific issues (SSI) with Islamic values, which continues to pose a challenge for educators. Methods: This study employed the ADDIE Research and Development (R&D) model, encompassing the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The effectiveness of the developed e-module was evaluated during the final stage by calculating the N-gain score. Data analysis was conducted using the SPSS software. The findings revealed that the average N-gain score in the experimental class was 0.33, compared to 0.22 in the control class. Additionally, the scientific literacy score in the experimental class was 41.88, while the control class scored 30.67 Results: The results showed an average N-gain score for the experimental class of 0.33 while the control class was 0.22. And the acquisition of scientific literacy scores in the experimental class was 41.88 while the control class was 30.67. Conclusion: These results indicate that the SSI-based e-module integrated with Islamic values has a positive effect on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills and scientific literacy.

Abstract

Background: This study is behind the difficulties of students in working on HOTS, so this study aims to find out the effect of project based learning assisted by assessment written feedback on students' high-level thinking ability on ecosystem material. Methods: The method used is a method of pseudo-experimentation with a non-equivalent control group design. The subject of the study was a grade X MAN 1 student in Sukabumi City. The sampling technique using purposive sampling was 60 students, 30 in experimental class and 30 in control class. The instruments used are about high-level thinking ability tests and the response of students of Project Based Learning models to high-level thinking ability. Results: The research results stated that the pretest-posttest value with N-Gain calculations of 0.64 is in the medium category with the average pretest-posttest value difference of 83.23. N-gain results based on high level thinking ability indicators of 0.72 or in high category. the average student response rate in the use of project based learning models to high-level thinking abilities is 83 or in excellent categories. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is the use of project based learning models assisted by assessment written feedback affects students' high-level thinking abilities.

Abstract

Background: This study aims to develop a guided inquiry-based Student Worksheet (LKPD) oriented towards enhancing creativity, to connect the concept of air pollution with real-world phenomena. It also seeks to describe the attractiveness, ease of use, usefulness, and effectiveness of the LKPD in the learning process Methods: The research employed is a development method, commonly referred to as Research and Development (R&D). The study involved material experts and media experts to validate the LKPD, as well as a science teacher and 35 seventh-grade students from SMP Islam Nurul Huda Cicantayan. The instruments used included student response questionnaires, as well as pretest and posttest questions. Results: The validation results from the material expert, which assessed content feasibility and accuracy, showed a score of 71% and were categorized as valid. Meanwhile, validation by the media expert resulted in a score of 66%, also categorized as valid, indicating that the product is suitable for use by students as it aids the learning process. The N-gain score obtained was 0.8, which falls in the high category (g ≥ 0.7), indicating that the LKPD is effective. Additionally, student response questionnaires showed a score of 76%, categorized as interesting/practical. The R&D study proved effective, as shown by the trial results where students became more active and better understood the concept, particularly in the topic of air pollution. Conclusion: Based on the results, the developed Student Worksheet (LKPD) is considered valid and effective for use in the learning process.

Abstract

The study aims to develop and validate the biology practical guide on fast food and beverage content tests and energy accounting for individual amounts. These practical guidelines require learners to do a high-quality test on processed or ready-to-eat food and beverage. The research and developmet) with the 4-d (four-d models) development model by Thiagarajan (1974). The study was carried out on 03-04 December 2021. The practical guide has been validated by two experts. The first validator was a master's degree in biology. Whereas, the second validator is a master graduate at biomedical. The results of the development of the preview guide for food testing materials get valididtas' value on a nimble feature of 4.6, a display aspect of 3.8, and a 3.6 presentation aspect. Aspects of language fall into a very valid category, while for aspects of view and presentation go into valid categories. Thus, the guide to this practice is worthy to be used as a learning tool in the xi high school food test material. Key words: development, food content test, calculation of the amount of energy, practical guide, validation

Abstract

Background: This paper aims to obtain an overview of students' environmental literacy. This research was conducted in Purwakarta Regency, one of the central industrial areas in West Java. Measurement of scientific literacy profile by adapting the standard assessment instrument of the Middle School Environmental Literacy Survey (MSELS). Methods: The test instruments that have been developed cover several aspects of environmental literacy, including knowledge, cognitive skills, environmentally conscious attitudes, and environmentally responsible behavior. The sample used was 100 students from three public high schools in Purwakarta district. The test instruments that have been developed cover several aspects of environmental literacy, including knowledge, cognitive skills, environmentally conscious attitudes, and environmentally responsible behavior. In addition to tests, interviews were also conducted to assist researchers in supporting the data that had been obtained. Results: The research shows that the results of the calculation of the average value of environmental literacy show that students' environmental literacy is at 45%, which is in the sufficient criteria. If it is narrowed down to environmental literacy indicators, we get different average values, namely ecological knowledge of 7.91% (sufficient criteria), cognitive skills of 6.05% (less criteria), environmental awareness of 67.08% (good criteria,) and environmentally responsible behavior of 77.89% (good criteria).
