Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the occurrence of the Revised-Bloom’s cognitive level questions in high school Biology Electronic Book (BSE). Research subject was 1,650 questions from BSE 2009 edition. Research instrument was documents’ analysis sheet in which it contains information such as questions code, descriptions, and its cognitive level type. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Results showed that high average occurrence percentage was found for questions developing lower-order thinking skills namely C1 or remembering (46.60%) and C2 or understanding (47.99%), although C3 or applying was still low (0.28%). For questions developing higher-order thinking skills, from C4 (analyzing) to C6 (creating), its average percentage occurrences were low. Therefore, the occurrence of the Revised-Bloom’s cognitive level questions, especially those developing higher-order thinking still needs to be improved.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemunculan soal jenjang kognitif Bloom Revisi pada Buku Sekolah Elektronik (BSE) Biologi SMA. Subjek penelitian adalah 1.650 soal yang terdapat pada BSE Edisi 2009. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah lembar analisis dokumen yang di dalamnya memuat informasi seperti kode soal, soal, dan jenis tingkatan kognitif taksonomi Bloom Revisi. Analisis data dilakukan secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata persentase kemunculan cukup tinggi diperoleh pada soal yang mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir tingkat rendah (Lower-Order Thinking Skills) yaitu soal C1 (mengingat) sebesar 46,60% dan C2 (memahami) sebesar 47,99%, meskipun untuk C3 (menerapkan) persentasenya masih rendah (0,28%). Rerata persentase kemunculan soal yang mengembangkan keterampilan tingkat tinggi (Higher-Order Thinking Skills) mulai dari soal C4 (menganalisis) sampai dengan C6 (mencipta) memiliki rerata persentase yang rendah. Oleh karena itu, kemunculan soal jenjang kognitif Bloom Revisi pada BSE khususnya yang mengembangkan Higher-Order Thinking Skills masih perlu untuk ditingkatkan.

Abstract

This descriptive study aimed to obtain oral communication skills prospective biology teachers through peer and self assessment in class discussions. Subjects were 26 students of Biology Education Department 6th semester 2015/2016 academic year  who contracted the courses of anatomy and physiology of the human body. The instrument used consisted of sheets of peer and self-assessment, as well as the student questionnaire. The result of research showed that the average of peer assessment for oral communication of students is different with the mean of self assessment. The spoken oral communication ability indicators that was revealed include: (1) choosing the most appropriate way to present the explanation of 66% (Good); (2) using tables, drawings, models to present an explanation of 62% (Good); (3) responds to a question from another student in the form of a convincing argument of 64% (Good); (4) interpret the obtained solution by 51% (Enough); (5) responds to a question from another student in the form of a convincing argument of 57% (Enough). Students responded positively to the implementation of peer and self assessment in lectures.Keywords     : Peer Assessment, Self Assessment, Classroom Discussions, Oral Communication

Abstract

The use of tree thinking in learning biology is still rarely used. The purpose of this study was to identify the tree thinking emergence profile of senior high school students through the inquiry-based learning model. This research is using the experimental method. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach. The population in this study was 36 students of class X in SMA Negeri Sukabumi. The samples were taken by using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection was performed using a written test in the form of LKS by using five tree thinking indicators. The results showed that the value of tree thinking students for the first indicator gained a percentage of 69% included in the good category, the second indicator obtained a percentage of 63% included in the good category, the third indicator received a percentage of 73% included in the good category, the fourth indicator obtained a percentage of 81% included in the very category good, and the fifth indicator gets a percentage of 52% included in the category enough. This result leads to the Student learning outcomes that are categorized as good because the students follow the learning by using models, strategies, and learning approaches that can improve their ability of tree thinking in Arthropoda subjects. This study suggests that the inquiry-based learning model can be used as an alternative in learning biology to improve tree thinking skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik SMP pada pembelajaran daring setelah penerapan model guided inquiry berbasis riset berbentuan media whtasApp pada materi interkasi makhluk hidup dengan lingkungan. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII dari salah satu SMP di kabupaten Sukabumi dengan sample 33 orang peserta didik yang terdiri dari 15 perempuan dan 18 laki- laki. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pre experimental design. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah one-group pretest posttest design dengan teknik pengambilan sampel Purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah soal tes kemampuan berpikir kritis berupa pilihan ganda sebanyak 23 soal dengan 5 indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis yaitu 1) Memberi penjelasan, 2) Membangun keterampilan dasar, 3) Menyimpulkan, 4) Membuat penjelasan lanjut, 5) Strategi dan taktik. Data hasil penelitian menunjukan pembelajaran menggunakan model guided inquiry berbasis riset berbantuan media whatsApp dapat melatihkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang terlihat dari adanya peningkatan dari hasil pretest dan postets yang menunjukkan kategori cukup, baik dan sangat baik dengan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada indikator 1 yaitu memberi penjelasan sederhana sebesar 87% pada indikator 2 yaitu membangun keterampilan dasar sebesar 76%, indikator 3 yaitu menyimpulkan 86%, indikator 4 memberi penjelasan lanjut sebesar 65%, dan indikator 5 yaitu strategi dan taktik sebesar 81%. Rata- rata persentase ketercapaian kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik yaitu 79%, Serta kemampuan berpikir kritis yang dicapai peserta didik laki- laki lebih unggul dari perempuan. Hal ini menunjukan dalam pembelajaran daring IPA pada materi interaksi makhluk hidup dengan lingkungan menggunakan model pembelajaran guided inquiry berbasis riset berbantuan media whatsApp dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik dan berguna untuk keberlangsungan proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Misconceptions are knowledge possessed by individuals/students that are irrelevant or not in accordance with existing concepts. This can affect the learning process about scientific concepts. The purpose of this study was to determine the misconceptions students had in the Animalia classification concept. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive method. This research was conducted on one of the MA in Sukabumi district. The research subjects were 50 students of class X A and X B. The instrument used was a four-tier test (four-level diagnostic test) which was combined with a thinking tree and consisted of 15 questions. The results showed that students who understood the concept (PK) in the Animalia classification material had a percentage value of 23%. Students who do not understand the concept (TPK) have a percentage value of 7%. Students who understand some of the concepts (PS) have a percentage value of 21%. Meanwhile, students who experienced misconceptions (M) in the Animalia classification material had the highest percentage value when compared to other categories, namely 49%. Based on these data, it can be seen that the misconceptions that students have on the Animalia classification concept fall into the medium category.

Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are substantial abilities that students must have as a basis for complex thinking skills. This study aims to determine the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) of eighth-grade students on biotechnology material. The research method used is qualitative. The population in this study were students at one of the boarding schools in the Sukabumi district. The research sample consisted of 24 students. The instrument used was multiple-choice test questions with four choice options. The questions used in this study have a reliability of 0.7 (sufficient) and validity of 0.8 (high). The research data showed that the students 'HOTS ability was still low. The t-test results, which compared the students' acquisition scores with the completeness score (60), obtained a sig value of 0.78, meaning that there was no difference in the mastery score and the HOTS acquisition of students. Calculation data based on cognitive level categories, learning indicators, and achievement categories also show that the HOTS ability of students is still low

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil kemampuan berpikir logis siswa berbasis gender Di SMPN VIII. penelitian  dilakukan Pada kelas VII. Penelitian ini pada bulan maret. Tes untuk mengukurnya menggunakan Tes berpikir logis (TOLT). Sample populasi dilakukan dengan random sampling. Berdasarkan gender dapat dikelompokan antar kemampuan dari hasil yang diperoleh tes oleh siswa-siswi bahwa presentasi berpikir logis dengan indikator yaitu Proportional reasoning siswa laki-laki 18% > 13% siswa Perempuan , Controlling variabel siswa laki-laki 20% > 13% siswa perempuan, Probabilistic reasoning siswa laki-laki 8% > 5% siswa perempuan, Correlational reasoning siswa laki-laki 2% = 2%  siswa perempuan, Kombinatorial reasoning siswa laki-laki 83% > 43% siswa perempuan dengan presentasi laki-laki maka lebih dominan berpikir logis.

Abstract

This study aims to find how students' critical thinking skills after learning to use generative learning models in science learning material on global warming. This type of research is a quasi-experimental study with a population of 2 classes taken from class VII SMP in one of the cities of Sukabumi. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research design used in this study was the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The instrument used in this study is a multiple-choice test of 15 items, each of which has been declared valid and reliable. Based on the data requirements test, it is known that the results of the research data are normally distributed and the two classes have the same variance (homogeneous). From the data analysis, it is known that the average value of the posttest of the experimental class students with the generative learning model is 84.50 and the average value of the posttest of the control class students without using the generative learning model is 62.19. There is a significant difference in student learning outcomes, this is evidenced by the Z-test obtained by Zcount> Ztable (3.72 > 1.96) so this study rejects H0 and accepts H1. Thus, it can be concluded that there are effects of learning outcomes on the critical thinking skills of students who take part in learning by using generative learning models on global warming material.

Abstract

The ability of understanding important concepts held by educators and learners. This ability is fundamental in achieving one of the outcomes of learning. Their understanding of the concept of ownership is the ability of a person can use in solving a problem that is related to the concept in everyday life. This descriptive study aims to obtain a description of the conceptual understanding of prospective biology educator students through the use of peer and self-assessment in class discussions. The research subjects were 26 prospective Biology educator students of the 2019/2020 academic year who contracted the human body anatomy physiology course. The instruments used consisted of peer and self assessment sheets, lecturer observation sheets and conceptual understanding questions. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that the average peer assessment score was greater than the self assessment, where the peer assessment was in the moderate category (49%) and the self assessmet was in the poor category (34%). There were only 10 students (38.46%) who were in conformity between peer and self assessment with adequate and insufficient categories. The discrepancy was found in 16 students (61.54%) with the category enough, less and very less. The ability to understand the concept of students on each indicator shows different percentage mean. The highest percentage of concept understanding ability indicators is found in the indicators of explaining the concept with its own sentence structure about something that is read or heard clearly / concretely by 64% (Good), while the lowest percentage of indicators of concept comprehension ability is found in the indicators able to connect symbolic forms (pictures, tables, concept maps, diagrams, graphs, mathematical equations, and other formulas) in concepts with other concepts of 51% (Enough).

Abstract

This survey research is to determine the profile of the implementation of the practicum assessment carried out and the ability of inquiry of prospective Biology teacher students. The subjects of this study were 19 biology education students class 2017/2018 in semester 3 at UMMI who contracted the Invertebrate Zoology practicum course. The instruments used include observation sheets, questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis was performed through descriptive analysis using percentage techniques. The results showed that the implementation of the practicum assessment included: 1) the assessment carried out in the form of performance appraisals and pre-lab quizzes, summative tests 2) practicum learning that was carried out tended to be subjective in nature, which was a cook book; 3) assignments given in the practicum in the form of making journals and practicum reports. In addition, almost all of the students' inquiry abilities could be accessed in the practical assessment but it was not optimal.
