Abstract

This research aims to describe the forms, meanings, and functions of hyperbolic figures of speech in short stories written by 7th-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Panggul. By applying a qualitative descriptive method through a stylistic approach, this study selected 6 out of 29 student short stories, yielding 10 data points analyzed using the stylistic theories of Rachmat Djoko Pradopo and Burhan Nurgiyantoro. The findings reveal that students utilize five categories of hyperbole: quality, quantity, time, size, and emotion. The use of these hyperboles demonstrates the students' proficiency as novice writers in spontaneously expressing feelings while enhancing the linguistic aesthetics of their literary works. It is expected that the results of this study will contribute as supplementary teaching material in literary studies and serve as a reference for future research focusing on stylistic analysis of works by adolescent writers.

Abstract

This study is a qualitative research employing a descriptive research design. It aims to determine the listening skills of fourth-grade students at SDN Inpres Tolotangga and to identify the solutions implemented by teachers to overcome the related problems. The results of the study indicate that the students’ ability to listen to folklore in the Indonesian Language subject varies. Based on the findings from 14 students, 5 students were categorized as good, 3 students as fairly good, 3 students as very good, and 3 students as poor. The inhibiting factors in listening to stories include the use of vocabulary that is not appropriate to the students’ level of understanding, distractions that affect concentration, and the low interest of students in reading and listening. As a result, students experience difficulties in listening and demonstrate a lack of concentration when listening to the stories being read.Efforts to improve students’ listening skills in folklore within the Indonesian Language subject for fourth-grade students include creating a pleasant and interactive atmosphere during listening sessions, using various techniques such as storytelling with engaging intonation and a clear voice, asking questions to assess students’ level of understanding, and providing constructive feedback to enhance students’ interest and comprehension

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fading use of oral literature, specifically “petatah-petitih,” amidst the currents of modernization and globalization in the Malay community of Sempurna Alam Hamlet, Serombou Indah Village. In fact, petatah-petitih contains noble values and local wisdom that serve as life guidelines and moral advice. The purpose of this study is to describe the forms of meaning and functions of Malay petatah-petitih in that region. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The data in this study consist of spoken petatah-petitih obtained from traditional leaders or community elders as key informants. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation via video recording, and data transcription. Data analysis was conducted holistically through stages of identification, semantic meaning analysis, and drawing conclusions regarding its social functions. The results show that the Malay petatah-petitih of Sempurna Alam Hamlet is not merely a series of beautiful words, but a tool for moral education and social control that reflects the harmonious relationship between humans, nature, and the Creator. The preservation of this oral literature is crucial as a cultural identity for the younger generation.

Abstract

This study investigates semantic shifts in digital communication within a fan community on the YouTube platform. The analysis focuses on language use by korizen in the comment section of the @Sptrakori_Official account. Using Djajasudarma’s (2016) semantic framework, this qualitative study identifies 57 linguistic data. The results indicate that connotative meaning change is the most dominant type (24 data), followed by emotive meaning (15 data), while other types include extended, constructional, idiomatic, lexical, and narrowed meanings. Associative factors are found to be the primary cause of semantic change, occurring in 40 data instances. Notably, no influence of regional languages is identified, indicating that semantic variation in this digital interaction is mainly driven by associative creativity and emotional expression among users.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the representation of local wisdom in Balinese society as portrayed in the novel Kenanga by Oka Rusmini, using an anthropological literary approach and Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The novel is rich in local cultural symbols, such as the caste system, traditional marriage customs, gender relations, and spiritual beliefs, all of which reflect the social structure of Balinese culture. To interpret the cultural meanings embedded within these symbols, this study applies Barthes’ theory of semiotics, which includes three levels of signification: denotation, connotation, and myth. The anthropological literary approach is used to understand the cultural context behind the text. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a close reading technique applied to textual excerpts that contain cultural signs. The data are analyzed through stages of sign identification, denotative description, connotative interpretation, and mythological reading, and further examined through the lens of Balinese local wisdom. The results of the study show that the cultural signs in Kenanga not only represent traditional values but also serve as a critique of the social system that restricts women's freedom. At the level of myth, it is found that ideologies such as caste hierarchy, honor, and female sacrifice are institutionalized through cultural language and symbols that appear natural. However, the characters in the novel also display forms of resistance against tradition, indicating that local wisdom is not static but can be negotiated in response to changing times.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the intrinsic elements in Nurwina Sari's novel 3726 MDPL using an objective approach. This novel depicts the story of climbing Mount Rinjani as the main setting that serves as a symbol of the main character's physical and spiritual journey in facing loss, trauma, and the process of self-healing. Abstract

The background of this study is the tendency of students to experience difficulties in developing ideas and conflicts, organizing the plot and structure of stories, and developing their imagination in fantasy stories. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and compare the effectiveness of the Meaningful Learning and Joyful Learning models assisted by short films in teaching fantasy writing. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design through a nonequivalent control group design. Data were obtained from pretest and posttest scores, supported by observations and interviews. Data collection was conducted through written tests, observations, and interviews. Data analysis techniques were performed using statistical tests, including normality tests, homogeneity tests, Paired Sample t-tests, N Gain, and Independent Sample t-tests. The results showed that the N-Gain percentage calculation for the Meaningful Learning model assisted by short films obtained an average score of 56.7200%, while the Joyful Learning model assisted by short films obtained an average score of 58.8033%. These results indicate that both learning models have a moderate level of effectiveness and are classified as quite effective. In conclusion, both models are classified as quite effective for use in teaching fantasy story writing.

Abstract

The purpose of this research, other than introducing children's games as a game inherited from our ancestors, is to inform the public about the values that appear in children's games, especially to children around Motékar School, and in general to the public. This research is an analysis of the semiotic elements of children's games based on the Ferdinand De Saussure model which adopts the concept of significant and signified. In the cingciripit game, the movement of lifting the finger is included in training a child's agility, in the snake-snake game, the running movement makes the child healthier and fitter, in the endog-endogan game, it trains children to concentrate, in the picwit-piwit langur game ... The conclusion is proven that every movement in the traditional game contains meaning and sign.
