Abstract

Background:The utilization of Big Data is a tangible benefit of technology and interest in analyzing the field has significantly increased in recent years. However, there are limited investigations on the application of the field in university libraries. Objective: This research aimed to identify and describe the characteristics of publications related to Big Data in university libraries using bibliometric analysis to explore and understand the trends. Method: Bibliometric visualization methods were used in the investigation. Results: The results showed that there were 80 publications on Big Data in university libraries from 2014 to 2023. The College of Economics and Management, as well as publications by Ahmad (2019) and Fox Edward, had the most significant influence on the field. Conclusion: The mapping showed the validity of the relationship between theory and the opportunities presented in the field.

Abstract

Background: This study presents a comprehensive review of five decades of research on stunting, an important issue in global public health and nutrition. Using the application of the Scopus database and VOSviewer, a powerful bibliometric analysis tool, this research systematically maps and analyzes the evolution, trends and patterns in the stunting research landscape. Purpose: This study highlights emerging key research themes, influential authors, prolific journals, and collaborative networks. Method: This innovative approach offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers and practitioners working to combat stunting and its multiple impacts on human development. Result: This innovative approach provides valuable insights for researchers, policymakers and practitioners working to combat stunting and its extensive impacts on human development. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of continued bibliometric analysis in illuminating the trajectory of scientific inquiry and guiding future research efforts in addressing global health challenges.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Library employs advanced technology to facilitate digital access and offer smart services. Despite numerous benefits, different issues arise with the implementation of smart library, such as limited accessibility and technological challenges. Purpose: This research aimed to analyze the mapping trends and accessibility challenges in smart library implementation. Method: A quantitative paradigm was used with a bibliometric method and the results were collected, summarized, and analyzed using the keyword from the Scopus database, focusing on titles without restricting the publication year. In addition, data were analyzed and mapped using VOSviewer. Result: The information that describes the research findings. A total of 347 articles were found in the Scopus database and 260 were identified after analyzing for high relevance. Meanwhile, the number of publications increased significantly in 2018, with continued growth through 2021 and 2022. The peak research activity occurred in 2021 and 2022, with 61 and 58 publications, respectively. Conclusion: The most frequently occurring keywords included book, internet, Internet of Things (IoT), university library, library service, transformation, academic library, RFID, smart service, and public library. In this context, research in the field was related to information technology, services, and transformation into smarter and more efficient library.

Abstract

Background/Problem Statement: The implementation of information services promotion at the IPDN Library Unit has been studied twice, with the result that these activities were in the category of less good and several forms of promotion had not been implemented effectively. The AIDA method can be applied to break down a promotional activity so that an audience can decide to use a service or product. Most of the previous research has discussed promotional activities with commercial products, whereas non-profit organizations also have products whose existence needs to be known to be utilized. Purpose: This research aims to analyze promotional activities at the IPDN Library Unit using the AIDA method. Method: This research uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach to describe the activities that are the object of research. Data sources were collected from questionnaires, structured interviews, and IPDN Library database report documents. Result: Library users pay more attention to websites and Instagram as library promotional media. Interest in promotional media in the Library is in short video content and events held onsite. Dissemination activities can double the desire to find out more about information services via Instagram @perpustakanipdn. Increased desire motivates action to access information services at the IPDN Library Unit. Conclusion: Based on the discussion, it can be concluded that the details of the AIDA method can be used by non-profit institutions such as the IPDN Library Unit to increase its existence of information services. Hybrid promotional activities can strengthen promotions by increasing the existence of information services as a library product.

Abstract

Background: The rapid advancement of technology and information has necessitated libraries to transform respective services in order to remain relevant and effective. To achieve relevance and effectiveness, libraries must cultivate an organizational culture that supports necessary transformations, particularly in the field of library services. In particular, libraries that significantly support research have been found to continually innovate respect offerings with the sole purpose of providing information capable of facilitating the research process. Purpose: This research aimed to examine the support provided by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for the successful documentation of publications, with a specific focus on the evolving services offered by the library. Method: The research method used is qualitative research with a case study approach. Result:The BRIN Library offers a variety of services, including research consultation, information retrieval, bibliometric analysis, data visualization, literature review support, and plagiarism detection. In order to achieve the stated objective, a qualitative method was adopted with a case study approach to explore the phenomenon of knowledge-sharing in the context of library transformation as part of its organizational culture. Conclusion: The obtained results showed that knowledge-sharing activities at BRIN Library played a significant role in enhancing the expertise of librarians and improving the quality of research services. These services were observed to be facilitated through formal and informal programs, egalitarian leadership practices, as well as internal and external motivational strategies. It was also found that BRIN librarians actively contributed to research innovation in Indonesia by enabling access to critical information, promoting information literacy, and fostering collaboration among academics. Based on the findings, knowledge-sharing activities within libraries supporting research were inferred to lead to the cultivation of an organizational culture that promotes interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaboration.

Abstract

Background: The lack of references for practical examples of Knowledge Management (KM) tool applications in libraries can be one of the obstacles to the development of KM tools in non-profit institutions. Therefore, conducting studies is essential to enrich and advance scientific knowledge related to library science and Knowledge Management. Purpose: The study aims to describe KM tools commonly used in both profit and non-profit organizations and review their usage in libraries. Method: This study is a systematic literature review following the PRISMA framework. A total of 31 articles were collected and subsequently analyzed based on their relevance to the research topic. Result: The use of KM tools in organizations is becoming increasingly diverse, incorporating both IT and non-IT approaches. Common types of KM tools used in organizations include social media, websites, the internet, networks, face-to-face interactions, mentoring, and reports. The concept of KM tool usage includes: (1) knowledge strategy, for developing competencies needed in the future; (2) knowledge creation, for problem-solving; (3) knowledge retention, for sharing tacit knowledge; and (4) knowledge measurement, for addressing knowledge deficiency issues. KM tools have also been adapted in libraries for managing knowledge sources and representation, storage, knowledge dissemination, and as tools for problem-solving. KM tools in libraries include the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), repositories, social media, face-to-face interactions, and the 'Ask the Librarian' feature. Conclusion: The use of KM tools in organizations can be adjusted to meet specific needs and budgets. Libraries, in storing information, have utilized various forms of KM tools, allowing them to effectively and efficiently fulfill their role in managing the knowledge produced by the host institutions.

Abstract

Background: The use of information resources by the Library and Information Science (LIS) undergraduate students in Delta State, Nigeria, was addressed based on diverse learning preferences, a critical factor potentially influencing academic success. Purpose: This research aimed to explore learning preferences among LIS undergraduate students and assess the influence on the use of information resources. Method: A correlational research design was applied, including 325 students selected through multi-stage sampling from seven state-owned universities in Delta, Edo, and Rivers states. Furthermore, data were collected through questionnaires, with 268 valid responses at an 82% retrieval rate. These were analyzed with descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, and mean) as well as inferential statistics (Pearson’s product-moment coefficient, and ANOVA), with a criterion mean of 2.50 and an alpha level of 0.05. Result: The results showed that the students had varied learning preferences, including verbal presentations (68%), physical interaction with materials (66%), and watching educational videos (64%). Preferences significantly influenced the use of information resources (Agg. x̄ = 2.83), with a positive correlation between these two variables (r = .907, p < 0.05). Additionally, a significant difference was observed between the education level of students and learning preferences (F = 2,265 = 1189.172, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The students were found to benefit majorly from the combination of traditional and modern teaching methods. Mutual collaboration between university librarians and coordinators of information resources with the faculty was recommended to ensure the correspondence of educational materials to learning preferences.

Abstract

Background: Nowadays, various analog collections like cassettes, vinyl records, and VCDs circulate broadly within society. However, despite technological advancements, few institutions—whether governmental or private—have undertaken the task of digital preservation, even though the information contained within these collections holds significant value for future generations. The safeguarding of collections in analog formats, including cassettes, VCDs, and vinyl records, is essential due to the wealth of information they hold for future generations. Thus, preservation efforts are undertaken as a proactive strategy to ensure that the valuable content within these collections remains accessible for an extended period ahead. Purpose: To examine the transformation of analog collections into digital formats through preservation activities. Method: The method used in this study is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Results: The findings indicate that numerous organizations, encompassing both private and public sectors, have engaged in efforts to convert analog collections, including CDs, VCDs, and vinyl records, into digital formats. This awareness underscores the significance of these initiatives, ensuring that the information contained within the collections remains accessible for future use. Conclusion: The items typically safeguarded include video cassettes, audio recordings, and vinyl records, with the preservation method involving digitization or conversion of media functionalities. The most extensively maintained microfiche collections, as these collections continue to be utilized by the Indonesian populace. There remain individuals who engage in the preservation process by hand, yet gradually, they have begun to incorporate contemporary technology.

Abstract

Background:Every university has a library to support the academic community. The academic library does not only function to meet the informational needs of the academic community, but also plays crucial roles in education, research, information, recreation, and preservation. The importance of the academic libraries has led to numerous studies being conducted in this field. However, research developments in the field of academic libraries are not yet comprehensive due to the limited number of studies focused on its development. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to identify publication trends in the field of academic libraries within the Scopus database from 2014 to 2023 and to provide recommendations for research novelty in this field. Method: The research method used in this study is bibliometric analysis. The bibliometric method employed is co-word analysis (keywords) using VOSviewer software. Result: The trending keywords in publications on academic libraries from 2014 to 2023 included Academic libraries, Libraries, Information literacy, Library, Academic library, Human, Collection development, University libraries, Assessment, Higher education, Covid-19, Digital libraries, and Collaboration. Conclusion: The trending keywords in the field of academic libraries are related to the process of library’s adaptation to technological advancements, user needs, and the global impact of the pandemic. In addition to trending keywords, numerous less frequent keywords have emerged, including bibliometric analysis, digital skills, information literacy skills, digital collection, digital reference, digital repositories, technology transfer, technology adoption, remote access, information systems, library design, and academic library websites. These keywords offer valuable insights for future research in the field of academic libraries, particularly in the development of information technology in academic libraries so that libraries can continuously adapt to technological developments.

Abstract

Background: Concerning archival services, local government agencies are responsible for managing archives within the regions. The Klaten Regency Government has adopted technology to produce innovation in public archives services, focusing on the management and preservation of archival records. To achieve this objective, the Titip Bandaku (Titip Berkas Arsip Digitalku) archival innovation program was established, facilitating the digital conversion of physical documents. However, in the implementation of program which has been running for approximately 5 years, the volume of digitized documents has not met the targets set by Library and Archives Services as the implementing government agency. Purpose: Therefore, This study aimed to examine the implementation of the Titip Bandaku program in protecting and preserving archives, identifying the obstacles included, and how the Klaten Regency Library and Archives Services addressed these challenges. Method: A qualitative-descriptive method was used to describe the implementation of the Titip Bandaku innovation based on the theory of innovation (State Administration Institute, 2017) with two dimensions of innovation namely output and outcome5. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data further underwent stages of analysis through data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion. Result: The implementation of the Titip Bandaku Innovation Program positively impacted the preservation of community archives against disasters by digitizing records. On the Output indicator, program was a pioneering effort within Klaten Regency to protect archives in disaster-prone areas, offering swift and customized services despite capacity limitations. On the Outcome indicator, program improves the security of community archives, lowers transportation costs through a mobile services system, and shows sustainability with the backing of regulations, funding, and continuous enhancement of facilities and services. Conclusion: The Titip Bandaku program at the Klaten Regency Library and Archives Services did not achieve optimal functionality. Factors hindering progress included limited human resources, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and the poor condition of some archives. To improve program’s effectiveness, several measures were recommended, such as forming a dedicated Titip Bandaku team, increasing public outreach through community activities, and fostering partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
