Abstract

Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of prostate cancer, caused by the abnormal growth of prostate gland cells. Prostate cancer ranks as the second most common cancer in men globally and is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Smoking is identified as a significant risk factor for prostate cancer due to carcinogens such as cadmium and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which can damage DNA and increase oxidative stress. This study used a cross-sectional design with 92 patients at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital in Medan to analyze the relationship between smoking habits and the incidence of prostate carcinoma. The results show a significant association between smoking and an increased risk of prostate cancer, with a p-value of < 0.001. The study also found a significant effect of the Brinkman Index, which measures the intensity of smoking habits, on the degree of differentiation of prostate carcinoma (p < 0.001). These findings highlight the importance of early detection and public education on the dangers of smoking in preventing prostate cancer.

Abstract

Falls are a significant concern among the elderly, often leading to injury, disability, and reduced quality of life. This study aims to examine the influence of chair yoga exercises on reducing the risk of falls among residents at St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Kediri. Using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, this research assessed fall risk levels before and after a structured chair yoga intervention. The study employed the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) to measure fall risk, with data analyzed using paired t-tests to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. The results demonstrated a significant decrease in fall risk scores following the chair yoga program, highlighting its efficacy in enhancing balance and physical stability among participants. The findings suggest that incorporating chair yoga into daily routines can serve as a practical and accessible strategy for fall prevention in elderly populations. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting yoga-based interventions as a non-pharmacological approach to improving the health and well-being of older adults in nursing care settings.

Abstract

The early discovery of hearing impairment among infants leads to essential intervention services which aid proper language and cognitive development. The administration of Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) screening stands as the primary testing method inside newborn and infant hearing screening programs throughout the world. Research on the implementation of Otoacoustic Emission testing in community health environments along resource-limited regions remains insufficient. The research investigated OAE hearing screening outcomes in Padanglampe Health Center infants from 24 months old through Padanglampe Health Center in Pangkep Regency including screening results and age and gender dynamics. The study used a cross-sectional observational approach with nine infants selected from a total group that satisfied the study criteria. OAE testing procedure served to screen the hearing of each participant. The researchers performed both descriptive and inferential analysis of gathered data. Fisher’s Exact Test evaluated the relationships between gender data along with screening outcomes and between different age intervals and their corresponding screening results. The calculations of odds ratios enabled investigators to determine how likely refer results occurred between male and female participants. The audiometric test with OAE technology showed positive results for eight out of nine screened infants but produced a refer outcome for the remaining one subject. A female infant under three months of age served as the subject in this refer case. Fisher’s Exact Test results demonstrated that gender and screening outcome relationship was non-statistically significant with a p value of 1.000 and results for age-based associations produced no significant findings.

Abstract

Sepsis during pregnancy is a critical condition that leads to organ dysfunction due to an abnormal response to infection. It remains a significant cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports a global prevalence of 4.4% of live births affected by maternal sepsis, with varying incidences across countries. Sepsis ranks among the top five causes of maternal deaths globally, contributing to 12.7% of pregnancy-related mortality in the United States. The physiological changes during pregnancy, such as increased blood volume and immune response modulation, create conditions that make pregnant individuals more susceptible to infections, complicating the timely diagnosis of sepsis. Due to these physiological differences, common sepsis screening tools like qSOFA and SOFA are often inadequate in pregnant patients, highlighting the need for specialized diagnostic and management strategies. Early detection and timely treatment are essential to improving maternal outcomes. Several screening tools, such as the Maternal Early Warning Trigger (MEWT) tool, have been designed to aid in the early identification of deteriorating maternal health. Once sepsis is suspected, prompt antibiotic therapy, fluid resuscitation, and vasopressor support are critical to prevent progression to septic shock. Additionally, controlling the infection source through surgical intervention or drainage may be necessary. Despite advances in sepsis management, challenges remain, particularly in identifying and treating sepsis in pregnant patients due to overlapping symptoms with normal pregnancy changes. Therefore, early recognition and appropriate intervention are key to reducing the impact of sepsis during pregnancy.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) during pregnancy presents significant risks to both the mother and fetus, including complications such as abortion, preterm birth, low birth weight, and postpartum hemorrhage. The immune changes in pregnancy, particularly the shift in TH1/TH2 balance, increase the risk of latent TB reactivation. Diagnosing TB in pregnant women is challenging due to overlapping symptoms with normal pregnancy changes. However, early diagnosis is crucial for effective management, with molecular tests offering assistance, although bacterial culture remains the gold standard. High-risk pregnant women include those with close contact with active TB patients, HIV, immunosuppressive conditions, or severe immunocompromised states such as lymphoma, leukemia, or organ transplant recipients. These women should undergo sputum testing for acid-fast bacilli smear, mycobacterial culture, and nucleic acid amplification testing if TB is suspected. Immunosuppressed patients may require further testing, even if interferon-gamma release assays or tuberculin skin tests are negative. Retesting is recommended eight weeks after exposure to infectious TB. The management of TB in pregnancy involves a multidisciplinary approach, including obstetricians, infectious disease specialists, and neonatologists. First-line anti-TB medications are safe during pregnancy and help prevent maternal and perinatal complications. Treatment for latent TB infection (LTBI) is generally delayed until after delivery. Breastfeeding is safe for mothers on first-line anti-TB medications, as drug levels in breast milk are too low to harm the infant. Early diagnosis, prompt treatment, and proper care are essential to reduce TB-related risks during pregnancy.
