Abstract

This research analyzes the persuasive language used in magazine advertisements, namely People Magazine. The research purpose is to discover types of persuasive techniques and recognize the deeper meaning of the persuasive sentences used in People Magazine. The theory of Lamb (2019) is used as the main theory to support conducted this research. The qualitative method is also applied to this research. The object of this research was the article advertisement posted in People Magazine, starting from the headline, picture caption, and content. After analyzing the data, the writer found 12 persuasive techniques out of 25 techniques of Lamb's theory used in People Magazine. From 30 ads, found 12 types of techniques and it can be classified as follow: 6 data of hyperbole, 4 data of evidence, 3 data of simile, 3 data of emotive,1 data of imagery, 2 data of colloquial language, 1 data of rhetorical questions, 2 data of expert opinion, 3 data of assonance, 1 data of tradition, 3 data of connotation, and 1 data of inclusive language. People Magazine dominantly used Hyperbole techniques on their advertisement. It shows that People Magazine itself wants to posted an advertisement article that can grab reader’s attention, make their message notable and underline product qualities.

Abstract

This study examines swear words in the movie Ted and their purposes, focusing on sociolinguistic studies. Swear words are emotional words used in invective conversations, emphasizing the speaker's message. The study uses qualitative research methodology, examining the relationship between language and the context of its use. Swear words have specific power and can be shocking and effective when used in unexpected locations and contexts. The researcher uses the observation technique to analyze the swear words in the movie script. Data collected by watching the Ted movie on Netflix using observation techniques, studying the script, identifying swear words, categorizing the data, and examining the actors' intentions in the research produces propositions related to reasonable principles. The findings are then reviewed, grouped, and reported, resulting in a comprehensive study. The final results of the analysis were poured into the research. All of these classification categories were found in the movie. Then identifies five functions for swear words and suggests motives that influence swear words.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the features and functions of women's language, according to Lakoff's theory, as demonstrated by the main female character in the film "La La Land." Data about the speech of the characters are collected through documentation by following several steps. The first step is to watch the film to understand its content. this initial stage is carried out through observation of film recordings on Netflix. The second step is to identify, researchers begin to carefully determine the features and functions of the female language of conversation between men and women. The third step is to classify, the identification results are then classified into two more structured categories to facilitate further data analysis. for features and functions of female language using Lakoff theory. The fourth step is analyzing data that has been collected and then analyzed involves the process of removing data that is less relevant and then converting raw data to a format more suitable for analysis. It also uses qualitative and descriptive methods. through the pronunciation of words by the female characters in the film "La La Land". The conclusion of this study is that there are 10 characteristics and features of female language, namely: lexical hedges, tag questions, rising intonations, empty adjectives (2), intensifiers, super polite (2), and swear words (2).

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian yaitu sebagai berikut: 1) Menentukan apakah pengelolaan fasilitas mempengaruhi prestasi belajar siswa; 2) Menentukan apakah gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah mempengaruhi prestasi belajar siswa; dan 3) Menentukan pengaruh pengelolaan fasilitas dan gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah terhadap prestasi akademik. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kuesioner untuk mengumpulkan data. Dalam pembahasan diketahui bahwa gaya kepemimpinan dan manajemen sarana prasarana sekolah berada pada kelompok sangat setuju, dan prestasi belajar siswa berada pada kelompok setuju. Berdasarkan hasil pencarian, diperoleh: 1) Pengaruh pengelolaan infrastruktur secara parsial terhadap pencapaian belajar siswa. Berdasarkan hasil dari nilai t hitung 10,558 > t tabel 1,98397 dengan taraf signifikansi 0,000 > 0,05, 2) Prestasi belajar siswa secara parsial tidak dipengaruhi oleh gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah, Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil nilai t hitung 0,828 < t > Tabel F (56,824 > 2,44) dan nilai signifikansi 0,00 < 0,05.

Abstract

Cerita rakyat di setiap daerah memiliki keunikan dan nilainya masing-masing. Salah satunya, yaitu cerita rakyat Kamandaka yang berasal dari Banyumas. Tujuan penelitian ini, yaitu untuk mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan struktur Levi-Strauss dan dimensi profil Pelajar Pancasila pada cerita rakyat Kamandaka. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis isi (content analysis). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa episode pada cerita rakyat Kamandaka ada 6. Episode tersebut dijelaskan secara runtut mulai dari asal mula Kamandaka berkelana hingga menemukan pujaan hatinya. Sementara pada analisis struktur terdapat 4 tataran, tataran geografis menggambarkan tempat yang dilalui Kamandaka selama pengembaraan. Struktur techno-economic menggambarkan perekonomian masyarakat Banyumas pada saat zaman kerajaan Pasir Luhur, yaitu bercocok tanam, berkebun, dan berburu binatang. Struktur sosiologi menggambarkan interaksi tokoh Kerajaan dan masyarakat biasa. Terakhir, struktur kosmologis menggambarkan kehidupan nyata dengan kehidupan gaib. Dimensi profil pelajar Pancasila yang dominan ialah sikap beriman, bertakwa kepada Tuhan yang Maha Esa, dan berakhlak mulia serta sikap kreatif.

Abstract

Ada banyak model pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan oleh pendidik dalam menyampaikan materi ketika proses pembelajaran. Salah satu diantaranya adalah model pembelajaran Project Based Learning (PJBL). Selanjutnya penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh model pembelajaran Project Based Learning terhadap hasil belajar mata pelajaran fiqih siswa di MTs Negeri 1 Jombang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan menggunakan kuantitatif. Untuk pengumpulan datanya yakni menggunakan angket dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dengan menggunakan uji regresi linier sederhana. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif. Pengumpulan data menggunakan tes dan wawancara. Dalam penelitian ini terdapat beberapa temuan yakni, 1). Model pembelajaran Project Based Learning (PjBL) yang di terapkan pada mata pelajaran fiqih siswa di MTs Negeri 1 Jombang dilakukan dengan beberapa indikator diantaranya perencanaan, pengumpulan data, pengorganisasian, pengolahan, dan penyerahan produk; 2). Untuk hasil belajar dilihat dari dokumentasi nilai raport hasil belajar mata pelajaran fiqih siswa khususnya kelas 9A dan kelas 9B lumayan memuaskan; 3).Hasil nilai koefisien model pembelajaran dengan menggunakan uji T hitung dengan nilai signifikansi 0,555 > 0,005. Nilai t hitung pada variabel X yaitu 0,595 > 0,281 (nilai t tabel X). Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa Ho diterima dan Ha ditolak artinya tidak terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan secara parsial antara variabel model pembelajaran Project Based Learning (X) terhadap variabel hasil belajar (Y).

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menginvestigasi efektivitas pembelajaran teks eksposisi yang berfokus pada pola argumentasi Toulmin dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berargumentasi siswa di kelas X di SMK Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode campuran (mixed method) dengan menggunakan desain the explanatory sequential design. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari kelas X MP 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan X BDP 1 sebagai kelas kontrol. Sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik pengambilan sampel acak sederhana (simple random sampling). Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pretes (sebelum perlakuan diberikan) dan posttes (setelah perlakuan diberikan) pada setiap sampel. Hasil dari penilaian keterampilan menulis argumentasi memberikan wawasan kepada peneliti tentang perubahan keterampilan menulis argumentasi yang terjadi setelah penerapan perlakuan (treatment) dibandingkan dengan kondisi tanpa perlakuan. Analisis hipotesis menggunakan perangkat lunak SPSS versi 26 menghasilkan nilai signifikansi (sig) sebesar 0,000, yang lebih kecil dari 0,05. Ini mengindikasikan bahwa terjadi peningkatan yang signifikan dalam hasil menulis setelah menerapkan pola argumentasi Toulmin pada siswa kelas X SMK Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. Dengan demikian, hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Pola Argumentasi Toulmin (PAT) secara efektif mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa dalam menulis argumentasi.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze and describe the word classes of the word look and their meaning. The method used in this research qualitative method. The data used were taken from Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). This is a research about morphology, syntax and semantics studies. The theoretical basis used in identifying word classes are Burkette (2018), O’Grady (1997) and Downing (1994) theory to identifying the meaning types. The result of this study show that there are four word classes, they are verb, noun, exclamation and phrasal verb. The results showed that out of 30 data that have been analyzed, the word classes were obtained namely 3 verb data (10 %), 5 noun data (16,6 %), 2 exclamation data (6,6 %) and 20 phrasal verb data (66,7 %). It can be concluded that the word look as a phrasal verb is the most word classes that occur with 66,7 %. The most word classes that occur is phrasal verb. Semantically there are three types of meaning, they are literal meaning, semi-idiomatic meaning and idiomatic meaning. Meanwhile, the types of meaning are literal meaning, semi- idiomatic meaning and idiomatic meaning. The types of meanings found are 11 data of literal meaning (36,6%), 7 data of semi- idiomatic meaning (23,3 %) and 12 data of idiomatic meaning (40 %). It can also be concluded that the most meaning types of word look is idiomatic meaning with 40 %.

Abstract

The evolving techniques of online-based learning place a demand on learning English via technology media. An alternative for learning English is through Duolingo media. The purpose of this study is to learn how to use Duolingo media to help students learn English more effectively. A qualitative methodology and action research in the classroom design were employed in this study. This research was conducted at SMAN 11 Garut, involving 50 students. Data was obtained from the results of observations, interviews, and tests. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in students' ability to learn English by using Duolingo media.

Abstract

The study entitled Objectification in Moxie film by Amy Poehler. This study aims to analyze the occurances of the issue of objectification that will be examined by using objectification theory, and feminism appoarch to overcome the issue. The object of this study is the film Moxie (2021) directed by Amy Poehler. The film tells the story about high schoolers rebelling the issues that experienced bycharacters related to the main character which is her friends. Thus, as the guidance, the writer applies ten notions of objectification theory by Tarasenko- Struc (2021). This study uses the qualitative method to present the findings in both essay and picture form by describing the narrative and cinematography elements. This study focuses on the action of objectification experienced by the main character as a witness and how does she deal with it. The results of the study are divided into two events. First, it depicts the occurances of objectification in the main character’s highschool, those are: instrumentality, denial of autonomi, inertness, denial of subjectivity, reduction to body, reduction to appearance, and silncing. Second, the main character’s reaction of the issue of objectification is in the form of rebellion based on solidarity and friendship and primacy concrete relationship.
